I think I'll probably pass and start again in the fall. Besides, it's too hot to train in July!
I can't spare a square. I haven't a square to spare.

You're right about it going to a good cause, and I can see how they have to be strict... but that's still too bad. Do you think you're in any condition to walk it? Do they have a half-marathon distance you can do instead that you can transfer your registration to?

Congratulations Mark Goldhaber!
Everybody please join me in a huge round of applause to congratulate our own Mark Goldhaber for achieving his brand new Active Lifestyle Award!!!!
I am extremely proud of Mark. A very active dad with a full-time job, Mark still manages to crank out our weekly Walt Disney World park update and write lots of articles, as well as perform as a moderator here. In between all of this, he managed to stick to a walking program and didn't give up!
Mark, I'm so happy for you!! Your certificate and lapel pin will be on their way as soon as they get delivered to me.

Yeah Mark!!
I agree, I think it must be so difficult to do all that he does and then squeeze in exercise? I tell you, I know so many people who say they don't have the time. But the rewards are so worth it!!
Or, they don't have the energy...I was told, it takes energy to make energy and I have found that to be true. I used to always take a nap and now I do not! I can go all day without one.
Thanks for the welcome for my guys, Lani! Rico is one determined dude! I woke up at 6:30 and he is gone! Went swimming, left for work on his bike {16 miles} and then will run when he gets downtown!! He wants to do a marathon and is in training.
I want to encourage him to do the one in Monterey in October...sure, I have ulteriour motives...can there be a better place to be a spectator??

Oh my goodness -- the Big Sur Half Marathon? Alex and I have signed up for that one!!
You know, there's always the half and full marathons at Walt Disney World next January!! And this time, they made sure to make enough room for the half, so registration is still available!

Award certificate and lapel pin update
Hey all -- I apologize for the hold-up in getting the certificates and lapel pins out. I just got a call from a person at President's Challenge. Apparently they forgot to include my zip code on the package, and it actually bounced back to them! We got it straightened out, and they'll be mailing it to me today.

The one that is October 17th? They have another one that includes Carmel but the person at the sign up booth {we haven't yet, working on the Hubster to try so I can get away...I just wanna hang out...
} told us that one has hills, etc. The one on the 17th is pretty flat, she said.
Aha, well, if I can convince him to do so,I'll let you know!! But, isn't that also about the time of the CHOC walk? That is something I can do, hopefully, knocking on wood to prevent broken toes and any more mishaps.
Question about that: It is 3.5 miles? How is it done, do you know? I mean, through out the park, having to cross over some places twice or including areas outside the park?

There's the Big Sur Half Marathon, which is the one that's on October 17, and the Big Sur Marathon/Power Walk/relay/10K event in April, as well as the Monterey Bay Half Marathon, which is usually in March. We're doing the Big Sur Half. We talke to a lady at the Big Sur booth at the WDW fitness expo, and we liked the scenic route of the course, and I thought the ceramic finishers' medals were really cool.

The CHOC Walk for 2004 is scheduled to happen on October 3.
Question about that: It is 3.5 miles? How is it done, do you know? I mean, through out the park, having to cross over some places twice or including areas outside the park?
AVP has done it before so she might be able to tell you, but it's a 5K, so that's 3.1 miles. I know the course goes through the parks, and it's really crowded. But looking at the photos from their Web site, it looks like mostly regular folks walking slowly pushing their strollers. I don't know if anyone tries to jog or run the thing... which might actually be an issue for me. That'll be exactly two weeks before the half, so technically I'll need to either run a hard 5 miles, or an easy 11 miles. The walk will be neither. I'll have to figure out what to do.

Thanks for the props, Lani (and MouseWife). The last couple of weeks, I wouldn't have been able to make my distance without the treadmill. Being able to walk after getting the kid to bed (and doing some moderating and writing) has been a big help. Some nights, I end up walking after 1 a.m. (I know, I know.) Sometimes, I say to myself "I committed to do this program, and I have to do it." Other times, I say "If I don't walk tonight, Lani is going to yell at me for not making my quota."
Of course, as soon as you put in the last entry to put you over, it immediately gives you a fresh, blank screen. No time to enjoy the view of the completed program. Just "back to work, you grunt!" Now I've got to do it all over again! Geez....

Lani~ I know you said 'Write it down, it is easy to forget.'
Well, I did write it down but now I can't find it!! So, if it seems like I haven't been doing anything, one thing I am doing is searching for my darn list!!
Going up to the mountains tomorrow. I thought of taking bikes but then I remembered....HILLS!! Yikes!!
Anywho, I will post our activities over the weekend...Hope everyone is doing well and keeping notes!!

Yay!!! Great job!!
When you got reached goal, did the system automatically bump you up to Presidential Champion level? If not, you should consider it; you're one active guy!

Wow..I didn't even know I got it
I havn't been online as much recently, though, so I havn't updated for awhile. I'll have to start again.
I don't think the system bumped me, though.

Lani~ When I reached the first goal a window popped up offering for me to move up but I didn't. I knew I was going on a break and also that I am not really as athletic as all that.
I have taken two weeks off and plan to start up again tomorrow {I still have been exercising but not running or doing weights}.

Thanks Lani.
One thing though...I don't go to a gym. I have everything I need at home. Weight bench (with leg and bench fly attachments as well as a lat tower), weights, barbell, e-z bar, fixed weight dumbbells 10 through 30 pounds, adjustable dumbbells up to 80 pounds each, stairstepper, treadmill, and a basketball hoop in my driveway.
If you see me log a "light" basketball session that means I played against my kids - and dominated them.
If I had to go to the gym, I'd probably miss half my workouts. It's hard to skip a workout now with the equipment just sitting there making me feel guilty if I even think about taking the day off.

Team MousePlanet announcement
Hi all!
OK, don't be confused! You might have noticed that I've changed the title of this thread, and I'm now editing out the original announcement that I posted here about the announcement list over at Yahoo Groups.
Since I started this thread as a support group but did not have the time or resources to commit to making it an official part of MousePlanet, I think it's best at this time if we make sure to clarify that this is an unofficial support group, so we don't have to put the official "stamp" on it.
If anyone has an idea for a team name, please let me know. It can be related to our general topic, but it shouldn't have the official "MousePlanet" or "MousePad" name on it, lest we accidentally imply to new folks that this is an official-type thang.
Thanks!
Oh, before I forget -- please please, everyone on the President's Challenge, could you email me or PM me with your full name and mailing address? I finally got the certificates and lapel pins in the mail -- YAY! So I'd like to send them out to those who've gotten their awards, and get them out to everyone else as they reach their award levels. Much thanks!!

Disneyphile -- Don't worry about signing onto Yahoo, if you wanna sign up for the President's Challenge. Just go to http://www.presidentschallenge.org and make sure after you get set up, that you join group # 11337, and use "Disneyphile" as your group name ID (NOT "Team MousePlanet").
