    Hi Ralph,

I have a small collection of Animation cells, and I really enjoy looking at them. If you are about to start collecting them, I would suggest doing a LOT of research first, so you know what you're buying.

You can start by going to a Disney Gallery store, or Disneyana, and asking them CMs questions about the cells. There are a lot of on-line resources as well - look at the Animation Gallery websites to get a feel for what's out there.

I get alot of questions from people about Animation Cells in particular. It's important to know the difference between a seri-cell and a production cell. Also, things like backgrounds, and signatures make a difference. (Hmmm - I think I just found a column topic....)

But, no matter what you collect, make sure it's something you'll love. If you're buying something for you to enjoy for years, what you pay for it is all that really matters. Resale value is only important if you are buying an investment.

Get original Production cels if at all possible.
While these are hard to come by in the galleries (way high!!!) sometimes you can find a private party that has some.
I have an original Fox & Hound with both title characters and signed to me (Doug) from director Art Stevens.
This was a well grossing movie..but I've offered it for trade a couple of times and no interest was expressed. Which brings us to THE KEY element in buying or trading cels. BUY ONLY WHAT YOU LIKE. You may have it for a long time!
I also have a signed Don Bluth/ Mrs. Brisby (Logo Cell from the vid box of Secret Of Nimh.) Most folks don't rank this as one of their favorite animated classics (I do).

Pick a film YOU like alot and go on a hunt for an actual production Cel rather than a Ltd. Edition.
Here's an interesting way to look at it...it IS the ACTUAL STAR...not just a piece of memorabilia..but the REAL Mickey as seen on the screen..or the real Cinderella
not just a picture of her..it IS HER!!!!
Now that's cool and worth having!
