Welcome Foolish Mortals.....
Park Music
Greetings!
I know that a few years ago ( maybe 2 years ) you could purchase a CD of the music that played in the WDW parks, I believe this included ride music. The nifty part was you could pick what music to put on the CD.
Does anyone kow if this is still available???
Thanks!
Don

The WDW Forever kiosks went the way of the Disneyland Forever kiosks and disappeared about a year and a half ago. It appears that kiosks have started to appear again at Disneyland, but that they are only burning pre-recorded disks. Rumor is that if it goes well, they will return to WDW as well. I don't have any further info than that. For more info on the Disneyland Forever return, check out the thread Disneyland Forever, again.

and, of course, you can experience all these cds plus others by listening to the various internet radio stations that do nothing but play them all day...
on live 365: intercot, disneytrips, and floridaproject come to mind.
just do a search for disney.
and, um, you can get all those songs off the filesharing services too - but that's illegal. And, presumably, so are the radio stations...

Actually the [scorn]RIAA[/scorn] is now offering a Webcasting license, which covers all recorded music handled by the major labels. I believe that Disney is one of the member labels of the [scorn]RIAA[/scorn], so the Disneyland Forever tracks should be covered by that Webcasting license. Whether the various streaming stations actually have applied for a license is another matter, of course.

Exactly. Plus, at least 25% of the tracks are live recordings, or smuggled out of imagineering recordings - all of which are probably violations of something or another.
On the other hand, I doubt Disney cares. These stations appeal to a pretty limited set of people I imagine - people who already give plenty of money to Disney. And they make me long to go to the parks, not less likely to consume Disney things.
On that note, floridaproject has the original illuminations score in rotation. Their recording sounds like a real recording, not a bootleg. Does anyone know if this was ever released? I wrote to the programmer of floridaproject, but didn't hear back.

I can't speak for the other stations at Live365 but my station is pretty legal. The station producer must have a legally purchased copy of the music playing (I admit I'm not 100% here but I did purchase a copy of everything available through the Disneyland Forever kiosks) and every month part of the fees I pay are forwarded as royalties to ASCAP, BMI and SESAC.
It's about as legal as any of the Disney stations can get.

You're doing a great job too. Sorry to have forgotten you in the list above.
I really could care less whether Disney sees the occasional $1 check from an internet broadcaster that basically advertises for them, but I'm curious how it works.
When you upload your kiosk tracks, does the system know who the label is and deal with it accordingly? Do you get to see a rundown of how much the labels get from the broadcasts every month?
Very cool. And by the way, thanks for running such a great service.
Oooh, and maybe you know the answer to my illuminations question...
-
Oh I didn't feel left out of the list! The OP asked about WDW music and I am strictly Disneyland. I'm glad you like the station though.
When I upload kiosk tracks Live365 recognizes no information about it. All information that shows up in the player window is provided by me. If I upload a track from the Disneyland Official Album though all the album and track information is filled in for me automatically. So apparently the kiosk discs are seen as being similar to a cd anyone could burn at home by Live365.
I have no idea how much the labels see, if anything, from any broadcasting (regular radio or internet). It is free advertising and I think that's a pretty fair trade. The royalties we broadcasters pay are for the repeated performances (broadcasts) of the musicians, singers and songwriters work. At least that's my undersatnding of the current agreement.
I've written way too much already but to answer your last question.....there are lots of Officially Unofficial releases out there. Some are bootlegs and some are floated out there by record companies to test for marketability. I have no idea how that Illuminations soundtrack got out there (but I enjoy listening to my copy

Isn't the music for Illuminations the same thing as the "Reflections of Earth" track on the WDW Millennium Celebration CD? I have a copy of that, and it also has the music for the Tapestry of Nations parade on it.

You should be able to find official "pre-made" CDs that contain theme music to the various attraction rides. It's usually a compilation CD that contains music from two-three rides from each WDW park. I've got a couple of those CDs myself, and really enjoy listening to the Splash Mountain music when I need a pick-me-up.
Should be available in all the different stores, including the World of Disney store in Downtown Disney.

Um, no.
Illuminations: Reflections of Earth is at least the fourth generation of the show, and probably more than that. The original Illuminations replaced Laserphonic Fantasy way back in the mists of time. There were two versions for WDW's 25th anniversary (generally referred to as "Illuminations 25a" and "Illuminations 25b") and were on different park albums. Illuminations: RoE debuted with the Millennium Celebration back in October 1999. I'm sure that I'm missing a version or two in there, but I'm not sure.

I bought a great CD last time I was at WDW - its called "The Official Album, Where Magic Lives, Walt Disney World." I wanted to get that larger-than-life instrumental sound and feeling even when I'm home and this CD certainly does that!
Some of the tracks include:
-Yo Ho (Pirates Life for Me) (POC)
-Grim Grinning Ghosts (HM)
-EPCOT Entrance Medley
-its a small world
-Friend Like Me (Tiki Room)
-Splash Mtn Medley
-Golden Dream (American Adventure)
I bought it at the World of Disney in DTD - let me know if anyone would like more info.
Now planning my 40th WDW trip =D -- Saratoga Springs and BLT DVC Member!
