The Fall Movies You Saw/Still Want to See?

A few months back......lisap posted this list of movies and we weighed in on which movies we were looking forward to. I'm wondering what you all saw and what you thought? And for those movies not out yet, which ones are you planning to watch?

    September:
    The Human Stain (Nicole Kidman),
Cold Creek Manor(Dennis Quaid, Sharon Stone),
    Anything Else (Woody Allen)
Secondhand Lions (Haley Joel Osmet, Michael Caine)
    Party Monster (Macaulay Culkin)
The Fighting Temptations (Cuba Gooding Jr.)
    Dummy (Adrian Brody)

    October:
Intolerable Cruelty (George Clooney, Catherine Z. Jones)
    Runaway Jury (Dustin Hoffman)
    In the Cut (Meg Ryan)
The School of Rock (Jack Black)
Kill Bill: Volume One (UMa Thurman)
    Brother Bear (Disney)
    Sylvia (Gwynnie)

    November:
The Cat in the Hat (Mike Myers)
The Matrix Revolutions (Jada Pinkett Smith)
    Elf (Will Ferrell)
    Love Actually (Hugh Grant)
    Radio (Cuba Gooding Jr.)
    The Haunted Mansion (Eddie Murphy)
    Big Fish (Ewan McGregor)
My Architect (documentary about Louis Kahn)

    December:
    The Last Samurai (Tom Cruise)
    Stuck on You (Matt Damon)
    Mona Lisa Smile (Julia Roberts)
    Something's Gotta Give (Jack Nicholson)
    Cold Mountain (Jude Law)
LOTR: The Return of the King (Orlando Bloom)
Cheaper by the Dozen (Steve Martin)
    The Company (Robert Altman directs)
    Peter Pan (Jason Isaacs)
    The Young Black Stallion (IMAX)
We saw Runaway Jury and really liked it. A bit different from the book, but the motivations were still there and understandable. My husband REALLY loves the book, and he really liked the movie.

We also saw Mystic River and oops, I don't see that listed above. It was heavily acted and really good. The end made ya think. Whoa. I really like Tim Robbins, Sean Penn and Kevin Bacon, so I was in heavy actor heaven.

We also Brother Bear and really liked it. The girls absolutely loved it.

I still plan to see: School of Rock, Love Actually, LOTR, Haunted Mansion, Mona Lisa Smile, The Cat in the Hat, and Cheaper By the Dozen. I'm happy that there seem to be quite a few family movies that my girls will anjoy.

This afternoon, we're all headed out to see Elf together. My husband LOVES Wil Ferrell..........
I'm mostly just funny and laughing, but I'm serious about a few things, like taking care of bugs, recycling, and when people say that Luke was The Chosen One, because really it was Anakin.~~Cassidy, 7

Kill Bill: Volume One (UMa Thurman) Not yet, but I will

Brother Bear (Disney) walked out on it

    Sylvia (Gwynnie) never

    November:

The Cat in the Hat (Mike Myers) I'd rather be dead. the Grinch nearly killed my holiday season.

The Matrix Revolutions (Jada Pinkett Smith) The second one already spoiled the first for me, have no interest in this one

Elf (Will Ferrell) Definitely want to see, but not until Thanksgiving at least

Mona Lisa Smile (Julia Roberts) Unlikely from title, star

Something's Gotta Give (Jack Nicholson) Depends on reviews

Cold Mountain (Jude Law) Likely if well reviewed. I like GWTW a lot, so I may not be able to resist

LOTR: The Return of the King (Orlando Bloom) I can't wait to see it and the marathon of extended cuts that will preceed it!!!

Cheaper by the Dozen (Steve Martin) Don't know enough

The Company (Robert Altman directs) Maybe. Depends on reviews. Altman is spotty

Peter Pan (Jason Isaacs) Very interested from the trailer. Certainly will see it.

I forgot to mention that I've seen The Last Samurai trailer three times now, and every single time, I sit there and giggle because the FIRST time I saw it, I said, "Is this Karate Kid 14?" and stinky pete and I giggled like school girls for ten minutes for no good reason.

    Ick. I'll skip it.

His ex in Cold Mountain though......that actually looks like a good one, but most likely won't take the time to see it in the theater.

My opinions on the various movies can be found in this thread.

I've seen Mystic River. It was great. Highly recommend it to anyone.

Everything else is still planning to be watched in accordance with my previous list. However, we are behind on School of Rock.

    Here, there, everywhere

I am soooooo sad I haven't seen any of the movies I wanted to see!

BUT we are going to see Brother Bear on Tuesday since the kids have the day off of school AND it's Shawn's birthday.

I'm defintely going to see Haunted Mansion when it comes out and we'll probably see Cat in the Hat and Peter Pan.

I'd "like to see"(which usually means I wanna see but won't get a chance" LOTR and Cheaper By the Dozen.

You notice all the movies I see are kids movies right With Dsnylndad working out of town all the time it's harder to get to an adult movie.

kind of off topic but my Mom was raving about the Haunted Mansion movie ads in the theater - the big cardboard ones in the lobby that is. Apparently there are hidden pictures and hidden mickeys all over it.

September was a wasteland--didn't see any of those movies, and have no regrets.

October--planning on Brother Bear, School of Rock--maybe this weekend

November--Can't wait to see Elf, Love Actually again, and that's about it.

December-LOTR, Stuck on You, the Company and not sure what else.

I didn't include Lost in Translation in my original list, which I feel badly about--that's one I would like to see again.

Oh my gosh. I just got home from watching Elf.

First a disclaimer: My husband and I can just LOOK at Will Ferrell, and we're peeing our pants. The looks he gives when reacting to things others say are priceless. His clueless gentle voice, willingness to do anything for comedy and oafish appearance round out what we love about the guy. I just find him to be really, really funny.

That said, I didn't expect a whole lot from the movie. I figured I'd get a few chuckles and that the girls would really like it.

The first part was amusing, but not laugh out loud funny.....I like Bob Newhart a lot, so I enjoyed seeing him on the big screen. It was a fine first part......cracked me up when he got on the ice berg and took off, and how clueless he looked and easy it was for him to just WALK away from the North Pole. We were really laughing at all the little scenes going through his mind when he found out he wasn't an elf--just simple things but we were rolling.

I was prepared to roll my eyes at his "adjustment" to the city thing. But gosh, it was pretty funny. And the parts that I didn't laugh out loud about (the shoe shine, playing in the door), the kids in the theater were roaring.

The one that had me laughing so hard I was choking, was when he just got smashed by the cab.......I couldn't recover. I laughed straight through to the escalator, and by then I couldn't breathe. The entire audience was dying laughing!!!

The store stuff was cute, his interest in the girl was cute.......the James Caan stuff was good......seeing him wake up in the store window--hilarious.

The snowball fight had the entire audience rolling.

The end was even cute......the whole Christmas spirit/believing thing was great for the kids. They were really into it. There was singing in the audience......which was kind of nice.

Overall, the perfect family movie experience. I could not have asked for a better laugh. I think the last time I laughed that hard at a movie was There's Something About Mary or Meet the Parents. And this was so much better, because my kids could see it and not miss a beat.

At one point, I was laughing SO HARD.....and Chloe was on my lap. She turned around and told me, "Enough laughing!!!!"

    On tour with Motley Crue!

Kat and I saw Brother Bear yesterday while the "Boys" of the house saw Matrix!

She loved it! Laughed louder than anyone in the whole theater!

And as I was sitting there watching her laugh, I realized that it wasn't about if the plot held up, was the artistry up to par, did the creators hold up to Disney standards....

It was that my child enjoyed herself! She even got a little teary eyed when we finally see that Kenai kills Coda's mom!

I give it 1 1/2 thumbs from me...it was good! I laughed! I misted! I ate lots of popcorn! I hated Tina Turners song! Totally out of place! Her voice doesn't even sound like it belongs in Alaska! Ick! But we will of course be buying a soundtrack and a DVD!

Kat gave it 2 thumbs up! And a big toe! She spent all last night spewing out quotes!

I've heard "You totalled a mammoth" About 500 times!

    Edited to add:

The preview for "Home on the Range"...not sure if I'll like this one or not! I can't stand Roseanne...her voice just grates on me...but I was HIGHLY shocked at the music choice for the preview...ZZ Tops "Lagrange"...Hello! This is a song about a Chicken Ranch...and NOT ONE WITH CHICKEN's!!!!!! I'll admit it's a catchy little tune...but HELLO!!!! To quote Ally "Inappropriate MUCH!"

I'd still like to see (already playing):
Mystic River (just haven't been able to muster the strength to see it and not break down...)
    Brother Bear
School of Rock (we'll probably see this one this week sometime)
    Lost in Translation
Shattered Glass (if I can get Mr Kisroo to look past the fact that it's Hayden (see-me-over-act) Christensen...)

    Coming soon:
    Love Actually
Master and Commander (although this may change on reviews~I could go either way)
The Missing (I'll have to take my mom-It's Tommy Lee Jones...)
    Veronica Guerin
House of Sand and Fog (I have to finish the book first)
Cold Mountain (again, must finish book)
    BIG FISH (Ewan, Burton~can't wait)
Cat in the Hat (Mike Myers will probably be able to turn me on even in full cat makeup...I love his mind and humor)
    Haunted Mansion
Girl with the Pearl Earring(I'm shocked that all you Colin Firthers haven't mentioned this one!)
    Stuck on You
    LOTR-ROTK
    Peter Pan
Something's Got to Give (Keanu making Diane Keaton feel sexy...oh man...)
I'm pretty sure this is my list from now until after the holidays. We'll see!

Saw School of Rock about a week ago. Great film; one of those few very good throw away movies.

    I still want to see
    Finding Nemo
Mystic River (Sean Penn is one of my fav actors, and Clint Eastwood one of my fav directors)
    Brother Bear
    Human Stain
    Pieces of April
Thirteen (the film got rave reviews, but might just see it on video; can't seem to find a theater that's showing it)
    Party Monster (same deal)
    Matrix Revolutions
    Runaway Jury
    Secondhand Lions
    Elf
    Love Actually
    Radio

FILMS THAT I PLAN ON SEEING WHEN THEY'RE RELEASED:
    The Cat in the Hat
    The Last Samurai
    Cold Mountain
LOTR: The Return of the King (of course )
    Cheaper by the Dozen
Peter Pan (this movie just looks awesome)
Garfield (I'm a huge fan of Garfield. It'll be interesting to see how he translates to live-action. But hey: Scooby Doo did it with ease, and that was succesful. Plus, Bill Murray is the voice of Garfield, so that'll definately be interesting to see)
Looney Tunes: Back in Action (hopefully, it'll be better than Space Jam. And by the trailers, it looks like it might be. Plus, the movie has Steve Martin and Jenna Elfman)
The Missing (Tommy Lee Jones looks great in this)
Bad Santa (John Ritter is in this movie with Billy Bob Thorton and Bernie Mac)

Ok, stop reading this thread and go see School of Rock. The only people who won't absolutely love this movie are people who really can't abide Jack Black. I think he's hilarious (in the right role) and the Mike White script is a nice retelling of the whole Bad News Bears template (rag tag group led by down in the dumps coach pull it together to impress everyone at the big game, this time the game just happens to be rock and/or roll music.)

Black kept me laughing the entire movie and appropriately moved toward a few tender moments without getting schmaltzy. The kids were all good (it looked like they could really play, I think I read somewhere that they did), although a few that were the musicians seemed to get picked more for their musical skills than their acting chops.

The ending Battle of the Bands scene made me want to applaud, I actually was restraining myself, just a perfect ending. All in all, great, funny flick and with the exception of a few bad words, good for older children, too.

there is only one movie on my can't miss list. and I am absolutly going crazy waiting for it. I have read all the books twice, I have read just about every article on it, heck I have even themed my office on the books (not the movie as I started this a couple of years ago.)

I even plan on seeing it twice on opening day.
    it is

MASTER AND COMMANDER: THE FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD

I have been impatiently waiting for this movie for THREE YEARS.
and the next five days seem to be soooo long

Grateful for all God has done for me, and for having Wfoxx by my side.

Master and Commander (yes, I'll likely see that)

I was fortunate to be able to see two screenings of Master & Commander at Fox Studios last week. Russell Crowe and Paul Bettany were at the 2nd screening and took part in a Q&A.

Must say I enjoyed the story line and got a greater appreciation for sailors and their lives in the 1800's. I plan on reading Patrick O'Brians books - no doubt they'll be richer in detail.

Ooooooooooh, I just saw Love Actually and I'm re-in-love with both Colin Firth and Hugh Grant. Oh my gosh.

I loved the movie so much. I liked all the story lines, but wanted to kick Alan Rickman. Toad. Emma Thompson was so good in this movie! I love her!

The Liam Neeson storyline was great. Little Sam and his lovelife--adorable! That was SO cute!

I think Billy Bob Thornton was the perfect U.S. President--I died laughing when I saw him. I loved that Hugh Grant was the Prime Minister and I thought his Natalie was really cute. I could just sit still and have Hugh say "bollocks" over and over again, and I'd think he was the most perfect man ever.

Speaking of perfect men.........Colin Firth. Oh my gosh. I loved him and Aurelia. And "Uncle Jamie! Uncle Jamie!!!", then "I HATE Uncle Jamie!!!!" cracked me up all night. I did appreciate that he once again got all wet, but dammit, they didn't show his wet chest, which I think should be written into his contracts. We demand more wet chests.

The Keira Knightley plotline was great--very well done. The lighting stand-in couple.....weird, but cute. The Billy Mack thing--hilarious. The guy going to Wisconsin--okay until he got to the US and it was just like he said it would be, funny!

The Laura Linney plotline--dang, I wanted to um, see more of Carl. What's with that???

Overall, a very good movie! We really liked it, even the husband!

I'm mostly just funny and laughing, but I'm serious about a few things, like taking care of bugs, recycling, and when people say that Luke was The Chosen One, because really it was Anakin.~~Cassidy, 7

OK~ add "Calendar Girls" to my to see list. Helen Mirren in a comedy about ahem, mature women who will do *anything* to raise money for a sick friend...looks like the female "Full Monty" and I am definately going to see this one!

And, I will see "Love Actually" again with my mom this weekend~she'll love it and I want to see it again! Nekedness be damned~my mom can handle it!

Mr kisroo and I missed out on seeing "School of Rock" (why we ended up seeing "Love") so, I'm taking him to that tomorrow night before it leaves!

We hardly ever get to the movie theater but these five we'll see in the theater:

    Love, Actually
    Girl with the Pearl Earring

    Brother Bear
    new Looney Tunes

See? Very clear priorities in our house. It's either Colin Firth or animation for us!

Oh! ROTK too-See it's Aragorn for me and "the elf" for Tim(shhh! don't tell him I told you)

Would love to see Master & Commander on the big screen but if we actually see the 5 listed previously in the theater it'll be the most movies(total) we've seen in the theater in at least 2 1/2-3 years.

To DL or not to DL September 2010-that is the question....

Why are you looking at my profile?

Um. . . 21 month old, wife pregnant and spouses with conflicting schedules = I think both of us have seen 2 or 3 films since the start of the year. I believe one we went to together. . .

I think all we'll get in this year is Return of the King. Nicsmommy wants to see how it turns out. I mixed up vauge truths and lies about what happens in the last chapter so she's all screwed up about how it's going to end. It's not like there are 3 copies of the books on our shelf that she could just pick up and read instead of asking me what happens. . .
