Cindy's Royal Breakfast - got it!

Heading to WDW in late January and have been worried about getting a PS for Cindy's Royal Table Breakfast.

Well, after much studying and research, my turn came this morning. Started calling at two minutes til 7 (EST) and got through about 30 seconds till 7. Was able to secure a table for 6. My daughter will be thrilled!

Glad this is the only PS I will need to wake up so early for....

Thanks! Can't believe I got through on my first try. I fully expected to worry about it all week.

Now I have to figure out which other restaurants to go to!

My favorite are Boma at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, and the California Grill at the Contemporary. Boma has the BEST soups. If you are even just a bit adventuresome and open-minded about trying new foods, they have really wonderful dishes. The zebra domes are to die for as well, and I might break my Atkins plan to have some when I'm there next time. If you aren't familiar with zebra domes, they are like monster-sized chocolate truffles with white and regular chocolate (hence the "zebra" stripes), and it's filled with the yummiest mocha truffle-type filling. Amazing.

If your daughter is a bit shy for trying new stuff, there is a very good "comfort food" counter for the kids, with yummy chicken strips and mac and cheese.

I've heard great things about Boma. Since my 5 year old daughter will not try ANYTHING new, the mac & cheese will be great for her.

I also hear that the Polynesian resort has a neat place that specializes in kabob-type food.

I don't think I will need to worry about making PS too early before our trip (1/23 - 1/31) for any of the places. Could I call the day of and still get in these type places?

I can highly recommend Spoodles in the BoardWalk resort. It serves a variety of Mediterrenean cuisine and is usually open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Try the tapas sampler as a shared appetizer.

Their dip for pita chips or vegetables, hitipi, is made with feta cheese and yogurt, and has been adopted as the semi-official MousePlanet staff dip of choice (along with a few others, but that's getting offtopic).

In the same general area is the Yachtman Steak House at the Yacht Club resort, where may be found simply the best steaks in WDW. I, while dropping almost all red meat from my diet, will gladly break the diet for this place.

Both are in the EPCOT resort area, accessible on foot or by FriendShip from the International Gateway (between France and the UK pavilions). If you time things right, you can enjoy a slightly early dinner and then walk in to EPCOT in time for IllumiNations. Your Priority Seating will allow you to park at the resort where you will be dining.

I will vouch for Boma. We've eaten there on our last two trips. Our non-adventurous 5YO son slept through our February visit there, but had a huge meal earlier this month. My also risk-averse stepfather enjoyed his meal tremendously. My take on the zebra domes: if you like coffee, they're wonderful, but if you're not a coffee drinker (like me), they're just really good.

'Ohana at the Polynesian is great if you're a meat lover. (If not, you're probably better off giving it a miss.) They bring 3-foot skewers of turkey, pork, sirloin, and shrimp to the table until you can't eat any more. The appetizers are very good, too. Depending on your timing, they have hula hoop contests and coconut races, and if you're there during Wishes fireworks at the Magic Kingdom, they turn the lights down and pipe in the soundtrack so that you can watch while you eat.

Spoodles is OK, but we preferred it back when it was a tapas-only restaurant (before our son was born, about 6 years ago).

We ate at the Yachtsman for the first time this month for my parents' anniversary, and it was one of the best meals I've had on property. It's pricey (as are all steakhouses anywhere), but it is absolutely wonderful.

As far as PS go, at that time of year, you should be able to get most PS on the same day. However, you may not always have your choice of seating times.

If you've got any special types of cuisines that you'd like to try while at the World, let us know and we can recommend specific restaurants.

    Enjoy your trip!

arctic, at least it feels like it

Wink so much great food, so little time & $........

    My vote is Boma's ...definitely!

Since you have kids, I would suggest Sci Fi cafe at MGM. Kid-friendly food, fun atmosphere. Milkshakes, burgers, etc. You sit in old "cars" to eat your food. The lights are low to watch great nostalgic movie and cartoon clips like you were in an old fashioned drive-in theatre. This is one of my favorites with kids.

I've also heard from this forum, that Kona's at the Poly is good for breakfast. Great coffee and something delicious called Tonga Toast...... never been there but it's on my list for next time !(possibly Jan. 2004!)

That's great that you got into Cinderella's ...... it's on my list for next time, too.

    Have a great trip!
    The other Cindy

Actually, one of my friends is vegetarian, and she LOVES 'Ohana - says they have fantastic veggie dishes.

I have to second or third Boma, and Spoodles. Both are fantasic.

Now that you mention it, two of our friends who came with us on our "everybody comes with us" 23-person trip are vegetarian (well, lacto- ovo- pisco- vegetarians), and they loved it. Of course, thanks to the pisco-, they ate the shrimp....
