New Bahamian Value Added Tax brings a price hike to Castaway Cay

Disney Cruise Line has begun notifying passengers that, effective January 1, 2015, a new 7.5% Value Added Tax (VAT) applies to most goods and services purchased ashore in the Bahamas. This VAT is imposed by the Bahamian Government, and is not a Disney Cruise Line fee.

According to information provided to travel agents, "This VAT also applies to purchases made on Disney Castaway Cay, including spa services, merchandise, beverages and most rentals, including Beach Cabanas. Costs incurred on certain components of Port Adventures are also subject to this VAT, so Guests may expect a slight increase in the total cost of these experiences." The VAT does not apply to shipboard purchases made aboard the Disney Cruise Line ships.

Note that this new tax applies throughout the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, so purchases in Nassau and other ports visited by the Disney Cruise Line will be more expensive in the New Year.

Thanks to Mary Kraemer from Escapade Adventures for the heads up about this change!
