Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party event information

    CIMG9397.jpg

With the first event of the 2014 Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party starting this Friday, I wanted to share some event information for those planning to attend. Many of the MousePlanet staff will be there Friday night, and there are definitely some new things I'm looking forward to.

The event runs from 7 p.m. to midnight select nights November 7 - December 19. In addition to the returning Christmas Party attractions like the the fireworks show, this year debuts new Frozen additions to Mickey's Once Upon a Christmastime Parade, a new meet-and-greet with Jack Skellington as Sandy Claws in Storybook Circus, and the "Holiday Hootenanny!" at the Diamond Horseshoe.

I got a peek at an advance copy of the event map, so here are some tips to help you plan:

The Entertainment Schedule is packed, so you'll need to decide what's most important to see during your 5 hours at the party:

    • Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas Parade featuring the Frozen characters - 8:15 and 10:30 p.m.
    • A Frozen Holiday Wish - 6:15 and 8:00 p.m.
    • Celebrate the Magic - 9:15 p.m.
    • Holiday Wishes - 9:30 p.m.
    • Celebrate the Season - 7:30, 10:05 and 11:20 p.m.

Since A Frozen Holiday Wish and Celebrate the Magic are offered on non-party nights, you can safely skip those and see them another night if you want to maximize your party time.

There are two Dance Parties, with some interesting characters:
    • Holiday Hootenanny at the Diamond Horseshoe, featuring the Country Bears, Clarabelle Cow, Horace Horsecollar, and Clara Cluck.
    • Club Tinsel at Cosmic Rays, featuring Phineas and Ferb.

Plus, there are 18 Character Appearance spots marked on the event map. The big new addition is Sandy Claws, making his first event appearance at Storybook Circus.

Cocoa and cookies (or "healthy alternatives," should you want them) are available at:
    • Sunshine Tree Terrace
    • Tortuga Tavern
    • Columbia Harbour House
    • Pinocchio Village Haus
    • Tomorrowland Terrace
    • Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe
    • The Crystal Palace

Event merchandise, including a pin, t-shirt, ornament and limited edition Magic Band, are available at:
    • Emporium
    • Frontier Trading Post (pin only)
    • Ye Olde Christmas Shop (Shirts, pin, ornaments only)
    • Big Top Souvenirs (Magic Band only)
    • Star Traders (shirt and pin only)

Most park rides are open during the event, including the Jingle Cruise and the new Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. Based on wait times during Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, cast members said the line for the Mine Train is only about 30 minutes. I'm not a big fan of doing rides during the special events, since you can do those during normal operating hours, but people who could not get a FastPass+ for this new ride may want to take advantage of the shortest standby lines you're likely to see.

Is Celebrate the Season another projection show?

This is what it says on the WDW site, but details still aren't obvious to me: (I assume it's a live show sort of thing, but maybe it could be projections on the Castle)

    Celebrate the Season Show
‘Tis the season to give gifts, and Mickey’s present to Minnie is not to be missed! Goofy, Donald and others get into the holiday spirit with their own version of The Nutcracker in this jubilant musical spectacle.

I've seen some mentions about special dinner meals associated with this, but haven't been able to figure out any details. I'll be attending on December 5th, and what do people recommend food-wise? Is it better to eat before, then just enjoy the party events?

    2015: Star Wars 10k + Avengers 10k
2016: Star Wars 10k, Paris Half and 5k, Avengers Half
2017: Star Wars Light Side Half, Star Wars Dark Side Half, Paris Half and 10k, Avengers 10k

    Yes.

My sister and I did not do the party 2 years ago, but were able to score BOG dinner reservations before the park closed to regular visitors. We were specifically escorted back to Main Street in a group, since we weren't doing the party. I'd recommend a TS about an hour before the party starts, then you've got your meal out of the way, but you'll still get full value from your party tickets.

Or do CS before the party officially starts. Do NOT plan on CS after the party starts, because they sometimes don't have restaurants open that are marked on the map - or they close earlier than identified.

Thanks for that tip! I'll be there tomorrow, will likely try to eat by roaming F&W kiosks at EPC before heading to MK. I would have assumed CS at MK would be viable though, so thanks!

There could be one or more open when you go to find food - but there might not be and making a dinner out of the cookies and cocoa is not usually a good back up! We just had 1 or 2 parties that didn't match what the map said - or they closed half of it down (like in Tomorrowland) which meant you didn't have their full selection, even.

I ended up eating at Gaston's for a Pork Shank before the MVMCP officially started, and that worked well for me. Didn't take part in any of the desert events included in the MVMCP admission since I wanted to get decent spots to view shows/parades, so I did have a Christmas Tree cupcake with my pork shank that was probably almost as much icing as cake. Just what the doctor ordered for trying to stay up through the midnight events!

I was initially worried about the crowds because of the first performance of the Frozen Holiday Wish (crowd level seemed crazy @ the 6:15 on Friday night), but I think that was because it occurred before the closure of the park for day guests not attending the MVMCP festivities.

If anyone goes for one of those limited edition Magic Bands, they have a neat effect (effect works @ MK only) when you swipe them past a Mickey head reader for park admission or FP+ use. I didn't use mine on Friday, but I did on Monday when I was at MK and Epcot. In MK, the reader does the normal green color for success, then transitions into a red/green (and maybe white) sort of candy cane effect around the ring of the reader. I initially worried when I saw it go from green to red when entering on Monday morning before I realized what it was doing. Pretty neat effect!

I have no idea how long these bands will do this, but I would take a guess that it's maybe just programmed that way for the season.

Anyone know if previous special edition Magic Bands (Like the Frozen ones) did anything similar?

Yes, other LE Magic Bands have special sounds and special effects. See the Magic Band Collectors FB group; there are pictures/videos of all the Magic Bands released so far. https://www.facebook.com/magicbandcollector

I entered MK in the early afternoon for last Thursday's party. I was able to walk up and make dinner reservations at BOG for 7:45 pm. This was around 3:45 pm and I had to show them my MVMCP ticket.

Did you all have special wristbands other than your MB for the party? Trying to piece out some information and see what is true and what is not.

Yes, there is a different metallic wristband for the event, and different nights have different colors so you can't reuse them.

Thank you AVP. Some on another board have said they are not distributing any wristbands. Glad to know Disney has not lost their minds.

I have hard plastic tickets for MVMCP. Will I just be tapping that to the glowing Mickey's? Or will they give me a Magic Band?

Tapping on the glowing Mickey, then you get a wristband and are all set for the night!

    Thank you so very much!

Thanks to everyone who answered my questions. At the ticket entrance it was just as you described. We tapped our hard ticket to the Mickey head and didn't even have to place our finger in the other slot. After we passed thru, CM's put the little flexible wrist bands on us. We were not asked to provide any ID anywhere along the process.

Thanks again and have a magical day!
