    Ride sickness help?

Does anyone have a good solution to ride sickness? Does Dramamine work? Other homeopathic? Or not? Thanks! This Momma wants to do all the rides with her family!

I don't have any "cure all" for motion sickness, but I do have a trick for riding Mission Space. I look straight ahead at the center of the screen. I don't look around to "flip" the buttons or anything. I have ridden the Orange side once and the Green side twice, and I have done great!

On the other hand, there is no way I can ride the Teacups anymore. I get sick just watching them spin!

I also try to not scream on the roller coasters. I don't know if it is the roller coasters or the heat, but if I scream I always end up having a really bad headache. This has happened on Space Mountain once and Rock N Roller Coaster once.

    I hope this helps!

When I went to Peru, and flew in a small plane that banked hard so we could see the Nasca Lines and then banked the other way so the people on the other side of the plane could see them, I got pretty queezy pretty quick.. the pilots gave me a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol to sniff.. it seemed to help. I haven't tried it since.. but haven't been a similar situation since either..

My mom gets motion sick pretty easy too, she has a pair of bracelets that have an accupressure point on them that seems to help.. not sure where she got them from.. but that might be worth looking into..

Have you taken Dramamine before? It makes some people a little sleepy. We have used Magic Bands. They are small wrist bands with a pressure point. Also, staying super hydrated and make sure you are eating protein. If your stomach does take a turn, there are ginger chews that can ease the symptoms.

I bet it will be fine. Except tea cups. Just say no to Tea Cups

I have friends who like Bonine better than dramamine. It is supposed to be non-drowsy. Sorry, I spin myself on purpose, I like to be dizzy. DH has to be feeling really good before he an even attempt Dumbo.

That's what I use for general nausea, or I get the store brand version. It has the anti-nausea ingredient (meclizine) without the drowsy issue. Dramamine just puts me to sleep.
Please don't ask me how I feel, I feel fine.
Oh I cry a bit, I don't sleep too good, but I'm fine

For the OP, you might try Bonine's website, they were giving out samples at one point recently. Might have been on their FB page. I have one kiddo who gets queasy on airplanes, but none of the rides bother her, so we haven't tried it yet.

I've never used Dramamine but I've had a little bit of ginger once when we were in rough seas in Alaska, and it helped. As for homeopathy, it's not real medicine. Don't waste your money on it.

Bonine works pretty well, but I just end up not riding some of the spinning rides. Don't want to find out that it doesn't work and ruin the day.

Working hard for that next WDW trip!

Hoe you didn't get too shaken. If I liked clam chowder, I'd have been right there with ya.

    Woo hoo....hop on board Candles71

But Back to the original post for DMB....do experiment a bit....I took dramamine while sailing because the rocking of the boat made me very sleepy (not sick mind you....see teacup post above) but the Dramamine literally knocked me out and I slept the entire trip on the boat. So don't ruin your vacation because you want to ride EVERYTHING! I mean, my Aunt loooooooved Disneyland when she lived in SoCal and was an original AP.....but refused to ride SPLASH because of the drop and screaming people. We told her not to worry and how cute the ride was but to no avail. She loved to stand on the bridge and wave at us and that was so much fun and she felt like she was part of the ride. That was the only ride she wouldn't do (pre ToT and Screamin') so even though she wouldn't do it.....she made us ride and made us promise to wave. Woo hoo!

I think your family would rather you rode 95% the ride and not get sick......of course....I am mad!

Well, I have always been a sucker for reds...even though I have squandered three great ones thus far.

Dramamine affects different people to varying levels, much like anything else. I would try it out before the trip when you have time to try half dose, full dose, etc. to see how it affects you.

Me too on that! Fried clams are okay, but I can't do anything rubbery or slimy! Well-cooked calamari is exquisite, but overcooked is not good.

Hehe, in my experience, they are much more likely to contribute to motion sickness! But usually so worth it...

When ever I read the name of this thread I see "Rude sickness help", and I have a whole list of things to fix that in other people. lol But as far as ride sickness, I've given up anything that just goes around in circles or spins. I make sure I have eaten a light meal and take Dramamine if I think it will be needed, like when riding several rides in a row.

There are two over the counter motion sickness active ingredients, don't bother to pay the extra money for some brand name just look for the active ingredient. Meclizine is the one I believe works better for most people, it doesn't have the high drowsiness factor that the other ingredient, dimenhydrinate has. At one point Dramamine the brand was selling both ingredients under their brand name just calling the meclizine one "Dramamine less drowsy".

Meclizine also is available in a chewable tablet. Which ever one you decide on it should be taken 30 minutes before needed and you should not drink alcohol while the motion sickness tablet is still in your system. It will increase the risk of the side effects and alcohol will increase any motion sickness you may experience.

Ginger chews are good for nausea as well as citrus smell. Sea bands are a type of bracelet that has the acupressure points and work well for those who don't want to or can't take any type of oral meds.

The other option is the Scoplomine patch. The little patch you see people wear behind their ear. It does require a prescription and definitely no alcohol while you are on the patch. One patch lasts three days but there are side effects from this as well, many people complain of severe drowsiness and dry mouth.

As for being on rides, as someone else mentioned, when on Mission Space look straight ahead. When on a roller coaster try to keep your head as straight as possible with out tensing up your neck muscles so much that you get a tension headache. I've even found that while on roller coasters if I put my hands up and just go with the movement of the ride I feel a lot better at the end than if I hang on tight and tense all my muscles.

Another thing we have discovered over the years, try to stick to your same eating patterns, get lots of sleep and stay hydrated.

I hope you find something that works for you.

Mom uses the patch for flying, etc. except she cuts them in half. They work well for her that way.

Back in 2004 we were going to go fishing out in Tampa Bay and the Gulf. On advice of numerous people, took a wee bit o' Dramamine. Before we could launch, they said it was too choppy and the bigger boat was coming back in... Well we were already up and dressed and it was before 7am, so we had breakfast at the pier, with pitchers of beer! And more. It was a long day at the beach, fun times! I never had any bad effects from the Dramamine and alcohol or I would have that day to be sure. But like other drugs, we all react differently.

I'd be careful cutting a patch in half. I'm not sure exactly how they're made, but it could cause a malfunction in the transdermal delivery method.
Rph13 may be able to confirm of deny my thoughts on this.
