Basic Team Information [Copy of Email Sent to Teams]

    Welcome!
Welcome to MouseAdventure Card Games: Deuces Wild. We're glad you've decided to join us at the Disneyland Resort for our Spring 2014 MouseAdventure. This e-mail is your official welcome, and contains information you'll need as you prepare for the event.

    MouseAdventure Card Games: Deuces Wild

MouseAdventure Card Games: Deuces Wild is a return of a unique format to the event. One thing to prepare yourself for is that there will be a lot of things to do in the game and it is unlikely that many, if any, teams will complete every task. Time management and strategy will be of great importance as you decide which of the more than 100 point scoring opportunities (including trivia questions) you will pursue.

For those who played our original Card Games event in Spring 2012, this game will be familiar in its structure. Every team will receive a deck of cards and game book representing 52 individual quests, puzzles, or tasks. The deck is divided into four suits, each of which has puzzles limited to a specific region of the Disneyland Resort area. Within a suit, the non-face cards (Ace through 10) are quests you'll have from the beginning and can plan strategies for, but the Jack, Queen, and King quests are received only after you successfully complete (or abandon) specific non-face card quests. In addition to these 52 card quests there will also be trivia and EyeSpy challenges. In addition, this game makes deuces wild and will force teams to decide whether points in the hand are worth more points in the bush. Or something like that.

This message is being sent to every player for whom a valid e-mail address was provided during registration and serves as the confirmation of your registration information. If you are a team captain (the person who registered your team), you are responsible for making sure that each and every member of your team receives and understands this information before the event.

This information is also available online, and we encourage you and your team to become very, very familiar with the hints and advice offered. We also encourage you to visit our MousePad discussion boards to meet other players, ask questions of the MouseAdventure staff and pick up tips from returning teams.

Attention Twitterati! Keep up with the latest news and information about MouseAdventure on our MouseAdventure Twitter feed. If you can't get enough MouseAdventure, follow@MouseAdventure or you can find us on Facebook.

    Registration Confirmation
The link below will display the information that we currently have for your team. Please take a moment to review this information for accuracy. There is a form on the page to submit changes.

There are only three reasons you should contact us before the event about your team registration:

    • There is a major error in the data below (half of your team is somehow missing, you're all listed as new players when you're not, you're not listed as a Family team but one of your players is under 13 years old).

    • Dropping or replacing a player; updating a player e-mail address.

    • Adding or changing a team name.

Remember, all registrations are finalthere are no refunds, and teams may not add players.

    April 27th Event Schedule
Please note, this is still a tentative schedule, and is subject to change. A final event schedule will be published before the event.

    MouseAdventure Card Games
8:30 am Sign-in begins at the Paradise Pier Hotel
    9:10 am Event starts
    4:30 pm Competition ends
5:30 pm Post event gathering at the Paradise Pier Hotel
    6:00 pm Results announced
    7:00 pm Event concludes

Reminder: Sign-in will be at the Paradise Pier Hotel ballroom, which is located on the ground floor of the Paradise Pier Hotel building. This is also where the event will begin. Please be on time. If the sign-in process is delayed, it will delay the start of the game for your division, delay sign in for the next division and result in less game time for everyone. This would be a Bad Thing.

    Winners and Prizes:

The results of MouseAdventure Card Games: Deuces Wild will be announced at the post-game award ceremony. The top teams in the Basic, Advanced, New Team and Family Team (if applicable) categories will receive a pre-selected package of Disney prizes.

    Spring 2014 Charity Drive:

Earlier this year, the Child Life Services Department at CHOC Children's Hospital introduced Julians Lego Corner. Inspired by Julian Dunn, a CHOC patient who loved LEGO, the project provides new Lego kits for hospital patients, especially those receiving care in the oncology unit and children with other serious conditions.

Many of these children have immune considerations which prevent them from playing in CHOCs group play areas, or sharing toys with other patients. One goal of Julians Lego Corner is to provide these children with access to new, unopened LEGO sets that they can play within their own hospital room.

MousePlanet and MouseAdventure have long been supporters of CHOC Childrens Hospital, and this project sounded like something our game-loving MouseAdventure teams would find especially close to their hearts.

You can support Julians LEGO Corner at CHOC by donating a brand-new, never-used, unopened LEGO set. It doesnt need to be big or fancy - LEGO has bagged building sets for under $5, and small sets work great on hospital tray tables.

Well collect the sets at sign-in, and deliver them to CHOC Monday morning. Thanks for your support.

    Additional Information
    Parking:

    Wheelchair rentals:

We regret that we can no longer offer wheelchair rentals to MouseAdventure participants. If a member of your team will require the use of a wheelchair or ECV during the event, you have a few options:

    • Players staying at a Disneyland Resort Hotel can rent standard (push) wheelchairs directly from the hotel. Please check with the hotel directly for information about cost and availability. Unfortunately, the hotels do not have scooters (ECVs) available to rent.
    • Players may rent a wheelchair or scooter from Disneyland or DCA once they enter the park. These rentals can only be used in the theme parks, and not be taken back to the hotel after the event. Please be aware that playing all parts of MouseAdventure Card Games: Deuces Wild will take players outside of the areas park-rented wheelchairs and ECVs are allowed to go.
    • Players may also rent a wheelchair or ECV from an outside company. Some MousePlanet readers recommend Deckert's Medical Supply (714) 542-5607 or OC Medical (714) 956-4690.

    Team T-Shirt competitions:
Keeping in mind that Disney does not allow adults (or anyone over 9) to wear "costumes" in the theme parks, MouseAdventure teams are invited to channel their creative efforts and participate in the Team T-Shirt competition. To enter the T-shirt competition, teams must submit their design(s) by the deadline listed below. Late submissions will not be accepted or included in the competition.

    • You must submit your t-shirt design(s) by e-mail (teamshirts@mouseadventure.com)
    • Images must be .jpg or .gif files. PLEASE downsize your files to no larger than about 1600 pixels on the largest dimension. Your 4MB .tif image might be amazing, but it can't be judged if the file crashes our e-mail system.
    • If all of your shirts are identical, you only need to submit one design image. (Or two if the front and back of your shirts have a different design) If you have multiple designs for your team, submit one example of each design.
    • Please make sure that your submission is CLEARLY explained. (i.e., photo A is the front of shirt #1, photo B is the back of shirt #1, photo C is the front of shirts #2 and #3) or whatever. We're not going to spend a whole lot of time trying to decipher cryptic file notations. If there's a cute back-story behind your design, you may include that in your submission if you wish. BUT REMEMBER, your design(s) will be judged based on the image(s) you provide, so the design needs to speak for itself.
    • Shirts are reviewed by a panel of MouseAdventure staff. Bonus points are given to designs that in some way reflect the event theme.
    • The deadline for t-shirt submissions is Friday, April 18, 2014.

    Helpful Reminders

If you are new to MouseAdventure, the following information is going to be very helpful. And be sure to review the Preparing for MouseAdventure section of the MouseAdventure pagethere are lots of good hints there.
If you've been here before, go ahead and peruse the suggestions below anywaythere's important information in there, plus you never know what you've forgotten since the last gameor what has changed since the last event.

    What to wear:
As always, we suggest that you wear comfortable walking shoes, sun block and hats/visors. Watch the weather forecast, and pack layers if appropriate. Don't forget about our team t-shirt contest!

    What NOT to wear:

Do keep in mind that Disney does not allow costumes in the park, and it is difficult to know where a line might be drawn. Keep this in mind when designing team uniforms, as well the environment we'll all be in, and stay age-appropriate. We reserve the right to refuse admission to teams or players with inappropriate or offensive outfits, costumes, t-shirts or accessories.

    What to bring:

Our best teams all agree, clipboards are your friends. Some even bring one for each member of their team. Be sure to bring pens and/or pencils, and maybe some scrap paper. It's always a good idea to bring pens of differing colors, as well as highlighters and pencils with erasers. For this event, a fine-tip permanent marker may be especially useful.

We also suggest that you bring water and small snacks, so you don't need to stop during the event. You will probably work up an appetite during the event, and our most competitive teams usually do not have time to stop for a meal or waste valuable time stopping for a corn dog.

What to leave in your car or locker:

Electronic devices, calculators, GPS units, reference materials, trivia books, and other such aids. You won't be allowed to use them, and they get heavy if you have to haul them around all day! Players may carry cell phones with them so they can be reached in the event of an emergency, but teams will receive penalties, up to disqualification, if players are caught using cell phones or text messaging during the event.

    Other considerations:
Teams may not work together, and related teams should not be working on the same quest at the same time. If you have registered multiple teams of friends / family, please understand that your teams will be required to split up during the event. Consider holding your own mini-competition to see which team gets the best score!

If you are participating with small children, be prepared to play just for fun, and leave the stress of competition behind. Non-registered friends, companions and children over 5 years old may not accompany your team during the game, even if they aren't helping.

    Weather report:

Some MouseAdventure players believe that the day of any particular MouseAdventure will be the hottest day of that given month. Others remember our Holiday 2009 event, now immortalized in MouseAdventure history as Rain Gear Games. Be sure to check the weather forecast so you know what to expect on game day. MouseAdventure will go on rain or shine, however rain may require us to change or cancel portions of the event. Unfortunately, there is very little we can do about this, so keep your fingers crossed that the mythical Magic of MouseAdventure works to keep skies clear and not too hot.
