Thread: What is your favorite decoration or detail in all of WDW?

  1. #1

What is your favorite decoration or detail in all of WDW?

Now this could be tough one to answer, and I need to think about my own answer even! But what is your favorite? We could even go by park or resort if you have too many to single one solitary thing out. Maybe we can help each other discover new things we have never even noticed...

Too many to name.....but one of my all time favorites that I must visit each trip is La Fontaine de Cendrillon in the Castle Courtyard of the MK.

I think the overall skyline of the World Showcase is my favorite - yes, even with the hated Swan and Dolphin thrown in!

Any detail is awesome there--I always take time to look at the "rocks" and other hardscaping. However my favorite is truly a decorative item--I love the castle at Christmas

Working hard for that next WDW trip!

The castle always makes me take a breath, but I like the little things best. The paw prints in font of Tony's and the headstones in the HM graveyard, the posters outside of the Tree of Life Theatre . They didn't have to put those things in, we wouldn't have missed them if they hadn't been there, but I'm glad they are. I love the music. It's always there in background, every area has it's own. I guess the detail that is my favorite is that nothing is taken granted at Disney.

Yeah, they really do detract from the view, don't they! I like the Illuminations view, with the skyline highlighted in lights too.

To me, the headstones are one of the best parts of the HM.

I made some of my own that I put up for Halloween out of foam board and off-white paint. I engraved them using a Dremel in a router attachment, painted the lettering and such with black paint so it is readable. This year our office had a door decorating contest, as someone (guess who) was dominating the pumpkin carving competition, so I made a crypt with Lester Moore in the top and Marie Levaux in the bottom, complete with oozing blood, vines, weeds, real spiderweb and even a real dead spider. Yeah, guess who won...

With the fog machines (and requisite chillers), headstones, etc. my house always gets the compliments. My favorite is when little kids are too scared to come to the door! So yeah, the graveyard IS a big part of HM.

If your schedule allows, having your first time seeing it be at the end of the 'Cinderella's Wish' Show really does make it a little more special. (The Fairy Godmother decorates the castle based on Cindy's wish, and with the audience's help, after discarding ideas from Mickey, Minnie, et al)

There are too many great details to have just one favorite!

From the Magic Kingdom: The lights of Main Street U.S.A. at night, the amazing details of BTMRR with all the authentic mining artifacts, the voices coming from the windows on center street, the attraction posters as you walk into the Magic Kingdom, a wooden leg named Smith in the Frontierland Railroad Station, the Mutoscopes in the Main Street station - wow, I could go on and on.

DHS - this is easy. A net full of Jello

AK - the amazing landscaping that truly transports you to Africa and Asia, the incredible attention to detail that makes you feel like you're in the Himalayas in the queue for Expedition Everest.

Epcot - the incredibly authentic and detailed architecture of some of the pavillions. I've been to Paris and the France Pavillion makes me feel like I am there again. Same goes for Mexico, Germany, China, Canada and the U.K. I haven't been to Morocco, but the Epcot Pavillion makes me want to go there!

For nostalgic reasons, I have to say that one of my favorite things is the atrium in the lobby of the Poly. Sadly, I hear this will likely be going away in the near future, but I always feel like I'm home when I see it.

    Liked your list, but may i add this;

For AK, the only other (minor?) addition to Expedition Everest would be enough A/C pumped throughout the queue and ride to make you feel you like you were about to hike around the heighths of Everest and also give you frosty breath... (a rather expensive and expansive detail to be sure).
Wishing i could be at WDW...

They could do something where you would get a cold blast of air at random times, would help cool the place down. There are small units that use compressed air to chill things, since a gas cools very quickly when it is allowed to expand in volume rapidly. Would not be difficult or very expensive for them to do either.

The Tiki store in the Polynesian, where one Tiki is outside looking in and another Tiki is inside hiding. This just cracks me up everytime I see them.

"Although we think it's DOPEY that Pluto has been downgraded to a dwarf planet, which has made some people GRUMPY and others just SLEEPY, we are not BASHFUL in saying we would be HAPPY if Disney's Pluto would join us as an 8th dwarf. We think this is just what the DOC ordered and is nothing to SNEEZE at."

Actually, for me it's the opposite - I really like the Swan and Dolphin and what they add to the view of the World Showcase. I know I'm in the minority, but I do like 'em.

The first thing that came to mind when you said this was the queue of the Little Mermaid ride in the MK, with the seashells and bird footprints in the concrete. Little details that really add to the experience!

I did that one kinda later at night and walked all the way through the queue onto the ride without stopping, so I missed a lot of the little details. I did not there are a lot of them, however. And the animatronics (of Ariel especially, my penchant for redheads notwithstanding...) are amazing, with the changing facial expressions and the eyes working well. Very well-done ride.

My all-time favorite WDW detail is the "twinkly" sidewalk in Epcot. I have three children ages: 16, 13, and 7. Since they have been little, we always end our Epcot days dancing on these sidewalks. It doesn't matter how tired we/they are, we see them and we start smiling and dancing!

I used to really enjoy the talking drinking fountain that was near the twinkly sidewalk in Epcot. I still stop by there every time, hoping that I'll hear a voice from deep within the pipes. . . . .

I love the way they blow out the fire in the torches 30 mins or so after illuminations at Epcot.

I wonder how hard it would be to do this in the shower floor of my master bath? It's all torn up right now...

Speaking on twinkly floors, I like the ones in the reception area at Pop Century. They use the same flooring at the Disney Store by me and it always puts me right back on WDW property.

Working hard for that next WDW trip!
