I would spend a lot of time gazing at the character mural at the Walt Disney Story, identifying each character and wondering at each of my visits if they'd added the characters from whatever new Disney animated release was out at the time. I'm so sorry to hear it's now gone...During my latest visit in October I tried to listen for the Summer Magic songs but I never seemed to catch them.....now I know why.....they're gone too.

    Dear Jim:
I so appreciate your articles, especially those that focus on the history of Walt Disney World. I, too, miss those little details that once made Main Street U.S.A. an attraction in and of itself: the Bill Justice mural; the Main Street Market House and the quaint little Disney and Co. shop that was sat behind it; Flower Street and the flower market; the Stationary Store; the Main Street Cinema; the beautiful Art of Disney that was once located in the old bank building (the one that is currently wasted on a package pick-up location); and the large shade trees in Town Square. The loss of those Summer Magic melodies is also keenly felt – there’s nothing like the jaunty optimism of “Flitterin’” and “Beautiful Beulah” to capture the fun of Main Street. Most of all, I mourn the loss of those lovely light-filled trees in the Hub. They provided the perfect transition from the familiarity of Main Street to the wonders of the various lands of the Magic Kingdom.
Thanks so much for your work concerning Disney history – I’m looking forward to reading your new Song of the South book.
