Nice So.Cal Hotel, just not 300-400 a night please!

Feb. 2013 we will be staying in CA for our 20th anniversary. We are looking for a nice hotel, perhaps $200.00 a night max? We looked at Casa Laguna and while nice, it was a bit too much and people say the road noise is disruptive and I am a light sleeper.

It will be just the two of us, no kids and it can be as far as Laguna Beach and that area. Does not have to be by Disneyland as we will be renting a car!!
    Thanks!!

    Have a Disney Day!

The Hyatt Grand Regency just down the street is my favorite "nice" Disney hotel.

A basic room booked directly, will just about always run under $200 although you have to factor in parking and tax.

They aren't advertising as far out as February but always have some interesting specials. For example they are having a special on suites right now that will put you in a pretty nice King suite room for under $200. Also a stay two nights, get the third night free option. Also check for the AAA and best (pre-paid) rates.

You can also book them directly through Priceline for much less and there are some various packages available, but usually not a suite. I've booked with them through Priceline several times, usually using the Name Your Own Price option. I always get great service regardless of booking mechanism.

P.S. The road noise at Casa Laguna is disruptive to light sleepers. I can recommend the Surf and Sand but I think it starts somewhere over $400!

The Island Hotel in Newport might be closer to your price range. It was lovely when we stayed there and it's close to some great things but my stay was some time ago. I'd check some reviews.

If you don't need to be in the Anaheim area, the Westin South Coast Plaza is quite nice. On weekends, you can usually find discount rates through AAA or Expedia, Travelocity, etc. for your price range. It is mainly a business hotel, but on weekends there are shoppers (South Coast Plaza, an upscale, indoor mall, is across the street, and Fashion Island, an upscale, outdoor mall, is not far away), theater goers (South Coast Reperatory and the Performing Arts Center are just next door), and non-business visitors enjoying the surroundings. There are good restaurants close by, Newport Beach and Laguna Beach are not far away, and there is a shuttle to Disneyland, too.

Have you looked at the Four Sisters properties? There is the Blue Lantern Inn in Dana Point, close to Laguna. Valentine's Day will send rates way up, but other times in Feb. may be low season for them.

Those all sound worthy of checking out! Thank you. We will actually be there the end of the month, so maybe Blue Lantern will be the low end by then.

What about Torrance area or Marina del Rey? There's a Marriott in Torrance that seems nice. Also some smaller independent hotels in Marina del Rey area -- the Custom hotel is near LAX. There's another Marriott in the Marina, too.

The hotel I would love to stay at is the Hyatt at Huntington Beach. Every time we drive by I say, someday. I don't know how much it is though but it is beautiful.

That is a beautiful hotel and definitely within the maximum range if using their pre-paid option or a triple A discount--maybe the AARP discount (you never know!). There is a resort charge and parking to be considered but these are waived for some packages.

The current packages will likely be extended to 2013, but they aren't showing online yet.

Bennette, you like the Hyatt Huntington Beach as well? Is that the post your replying to? I don' qualify for AARP and we don't have AAA but I am going to take a look. I looked at the Blue Lantern and that is on the short list. I still need to look at the grand regency. Will do that now.
I do appreciate the input. 20 years will be a big deal for us, been tough some of those years!!

I've done spa stuff at the Huntington but not stayed; I have friends who are fans.

I'm going to be honest. If I'm doing a Disney trip, I want to be very close to the parks. I don't do traffic...

But if I'm doing a Southern California trip with a visit to Disneyland thrown in, then I do think a beach location can be a very good choice.

I stayed at the Anabella last month. It was really nice, one of the shortest off property walks, and they have deep discounts for passholders. Marathon weekend and I only paid ~$97 a night when every hotel was booked for the run. Granted, i only slept there--didn't eat or use the pool. Its on the Southwest corner of the property, so its about the same walk to the bag check or into DTD.

Nice So.Cal Hotel, just not 300-400 a night please!

We just celebrated our 20th earlier this month. We had a DL trip planned but it didn't work out . We were going to stay somewhere nice but when it came down to it I just couldn't bring myself to pay that much, not that we went anyway. Hope you have fun celebrating.

TTFN92, sorry to hear your trip didn't work out but congrats on your 20 years!! We usually stay with family when we go to CA each summer but this time I am not staying with family. I will pay $200.00 a night for a special occasion but the one year I went to DL by myself I stayed at HOJO and paid 59.00 a night. I am usually super cheap!!

We spent our 10 year at WDW so I guess it's fitting to do DL this time around. Plus I am dying to see Carsland!

    Have a Disney Day!

Definitely not a time to stay with family . Congrats to you too! We did end up having a trip to San Diego in Aug be our anniv trip so we got to go somewhere. Plus DH surprised me with a stay at a resort in Scottsdale the night of our anniv so it worked out great .

Congrats on 20 years! Me and my husband went last year for our 25th, and we stayed at HoJO for four nights, then
went on to Laguna and stayed at Travelodge which is right across from the Montage. Just a walk across the street and you are at the most fabulous beach ever. We went as cheap as we could (while still staying in a nice place), although we have stayed at the Travelodge (formerly a Best Western) for years and love it for its location. We are hardly ever in our room, either soaking up Disney or soaking up the sun at the beach.
Last year, I emailed Willie and HoJO and he set us up in a 2 bedroom suite with two balconies, from where we could see fireworks at DL! You never know what the manager might do to make your anniversary special! Have a great trip.

That's so cool Pirate Wreck! I like Hojo but it may not be what hubby has in mind.

I suggest you look at the Ayres Inn. There are a few in the area. If unfmailiar with the small chain they are nice business hotels that tend to be in the $100-150 range. They are all very simliar and the one near the parks is down by Angels Stadium, so having a car is going to be helpful.

HOM, I just noticed that Four Sisters Inns has a new property in Newport Beach (the Newport Beach Hotel) -- that might work for you. Also, there is a FS property in Santa Monica (Channel Island Inn) -- we've stayed there and really liked it. (Also have had good experiences at the Blue Lantern.) It isn't exactly walkable to the beach, but since you will have a car, the location won't be a problem. Maybe you could spend a few days there before driving down to DLR. Also, we've had good experiences with FS' customer service -- tell the staff that it will be your 20th anniversary and let them work with you on dates and prices.
