Urgent Care/Hospitals
For the last few months, my health has taken an unfortunate turn for the worse. I REFUSE to cancel our trip to DLR in December, but think it'd be practical to have info about hospitals and urgent care centers close to the parks just in case I have issues during our trip. I could simply look it up online, but am hoping locals can tell me which ones are decent and close. I need info for both since I have a port and many urgent care facilities can't access ports.
TIA

At home in the hills
My mil ended up needing the emergancy room the last time we took her. There is one south of the resort. Hang on I'll look for the info. They were quite fast the night she ended up there.
ETA: Try This The one labeled D (UCI medical center is where she went.) Ok it didn't bring it up. If you click on the search nearby, and put in hospital, it brings up a couple of Urgent care as well as hospitals and a pharmacy. UC Irvine on Chapman is where my MIL went to the ER, late evening and was seen very quickly.

If you need really critical care, UC Irvine is where you will likely be sent. All my time in their emergency room has been quite lovely as emergency rooms go (prompt and they were good with the pain meds). They are also my medical care provider so I go there for just about anything that can't be handled at my local clinic.
Disclaimer, I work for UC Irvine but I have my choice of several hospitals and I've got "issues," and won't go just anywhere.
St. Joseph's is also nearby. Here is their link for emergency services. I've never been there but their ratings are good.

At home in the hills
We were in Dolphin's Cove, so it was the closest on a search. I was truely on vacation as I didn't have to take her (the norm), Whistler took his mom and waited with her. He offered no less. So I have no first hand accounts with the staff, but they were back fairly quickly, we were able to get her prescription filled in the morning at a local pharmacy easily enough. I heard no complaints from either of them.

Agree about the good level of care at UCI ER/Urgent Care. My brother-in-law had to go in on his last trip to DLR. UCI took good care of him, and he had no complaints either.

Thanks for all of the good info! I'll update my "important phone numbers" page in my planning book.

Last trip, I booked my brother in the Doubletree across from UC Irvine medical. His twins tend to be accident/illness prone. One ended up with an ear infection that trip...
Planning 3 trips at once...

Agree with all of the above. UCI is really the way to go in terms of care and closeness.
Hopefully since you are very prepared, you won't need to use all of this information

That's my thinking, anyway. If I'm prepared, I won't need anything. I can just relax and hope for the best. Disneyland tends to hold a bit of magic for me; I tend to avoid serious health issues until I get back home
With all of these new symptoms and worsening condition though, it just makes more sense to have a plan just in case.

Do you have copies of current medical reports, letter from your physician, prescriptions, etc. in your DLR folder? (Knowing how organized you are, you probably do!) I've learned to keep those sorts of things handy when traveling. It sure helps to make things easier, if they are needed.

Actually, because many of my health issues and allergies are uncommon, I have a typed sheet of paper with everything listed. There are copies in my house, my car, my daughter's car, and my purse. I'll just take one with me
I know, I'm unbelievably organized ~ it's a sickness really LOL
-
Well, I hope your sickness is contagious, but that's one bug I really need to catch! Fantastic idea to put copies in your DD's car. Now I need to put a copy in Mr. Tea's car and briefcase.

Email it to yourself and keep it on your phone. Since you're getting unbelievably organized already.

No, it's not contagious - it's genetic. In all seriousness, the germs floating around the parks are more dangerous to me than I am to anyone there. The only one I've 'shared' this with is my youngest daughter.

Great idea! I have a notepad app in my phone, so I can do that really quickly!

Thanks, Christine! I have a port card I carry everywhere, along with a tag on my key ring. The paper I have with emergency info has all of my medications listed along with dose amounts, frequency, etc. Thanks for the document! I have one like this in my purse. I might put a copy in my service dog's pack too.

In looking over this again after some much needed sleep, I hope I didn't offend you with my comment! I was referring to your "organizing bug" (e.g. your trip folder, copies of files, etc.) -- which I sorely lack -- not any actual medical conditions. You have my true sympathy about those -- I also have some issues that are genetic, some that are not, and some that are just plain mysteries. Isn't it great that, as long as we're careful and prepared, we can still enjoy DLR?!

Oh no! You didn't offend me at all! I caught the organizing bug out of necessity. My family thinks it's more OCD than practical, but either way, it allows me to save money, reduce stress, and best of all, enjoy DLR!
