    Mosquitoes at Disneyland?

We're on the countdown to our fabulous vacation at DL. 30 days and counting. Starting to make a mental list of things to take, including sunscreen for a day at the beach. Just curious if by the end of September (September 20th, to be exact), should I pack insect/mosquito repellent?

We visit DLR throughout the year, and we've never needed bug spray/repellent of any kind -- and I'm a mosquito magnet! Most, if not all, of the large bodies of water at DLR are chlorinated, so mosquitos are not a problem. Sunscreen and sun protection (hats, clothing with SPF protection, etc.) are a much bigger priority at DLR!

Mosquitos are not allowed at Disneyland.

So I'm reading my bean feed...

They don't show up on the AP pics, so no admittance...

I am very grateful for this. I am one who gets 22 bites for every one Whistler gets. I never need mosquito spray at DL.

If you are a bug magnet, you might want to consider bringing spray just in case. Several of my friends have reported being bitten in Cars Land. Personally I never had any problems until two weeks ago, when I came home covered in bites after just an hour or so in Cars Land. No idea what's happening there, but if you're really sensitive, be prepared.

Perhaps they've gone overboard with realism in that area?

I am a magnet but haven't been bitten there. Not yet, anyway. But I haven't had too many night visits.

I wonder where the bugs are coming from? There doesn't seem to be much standing water in that area -- isn't Radiator Springs in the desert? Were your friends bitten in a certain area (eating locale, in line for a particular ride, etc.)? We haven't had any bug problems there, but it's good to be warned. Maybe the biting bugs are renegade escapees from Bugs Land...

I'm wondering if the plants in that area don't do well with pesticides. Theoretically, they don't need any, since they are quasi-native (native to nearby desert and semi desert areas but not Anaheim), low water plants.

I'd volunteer as an official tester (they can't resist me) but by the time I make my next visit, mosquito season will be over and you all will have figure this pesky problem out.

Mosquito season ends? (I don't think it really does around here.)

    When it gets cold(ish).

We don't have that much native water sitting around, going brackish, you know? Irvine has so little water and remaining native plant life, if we see a mosquito, the biologists throw a party. I have never gotten a bite here, not in six years. Honestly, it's a little creepy. Like someone drove around spraying Agent Orange.

    Re: Mosquitos at Disneyland?

I'm literally a mosquito magnet. I can go to sleep with a mosquito in my home and wake up the next morning with 15 bites while my girlfriend has none (not an exaggeration), but I'm pretty sure that I've never come home with a mosquito bite from DL or DCA. I haven't been back since Cars Land opened though so I don't know if something has changed.

    Mosquitos at Disneyland?

I'm so glad that mosquitos don't like me . I've noticed anyone in our family ever getting bit while we are there, even in CL.

I'm wondering if the Cars Land problem is mosquitos or fleas. I could see fleas having a rollicking good time in that landscaping. All it takes is one person/group of people from an infested area/house/apt. to bring the little critters along. We got bitten (well, at least I did -- Mr. Tea is pretty much bug immune) pretty badly at the Arclight Movie Theater one time because the guy next to us had fleas (or his pets had fleas who hitched a ride to the movies).

Did he have tickets for his extra guests?

We did see a water roach at our Carsland preview but we figured he was an animatronic escapee from a new Wall*E attraction.

On our trip in July my DD and I kept saying the mosqitos in California are invisable because we never saw one but both of us had bites. Not sure where we were getting them from.

    Yes.
We all remember the big store in DCA which was run by P.T. Flea.
    Before CarsLand exterminated it.

I never saw what bit me, but it was up and down my legs. We wondered about sand fleas, but that doesn't make a lot of sense given the landscaping.

Maybe we were all just super unlucky at the same time?

Sounds like what happened to me at the Arclight. That's why I wondered. Either way, let's hope DCA gets the bugs under control.
