Great White Weekend
August 11 and 12
6 p.m. – Aquarium Auditorium
Free for members & with general admission
Join us for a premiere of Discovery Channel’s “Great White Highway” during
Evenings by the Bay on August 11 and 12. The feature – which debuts on the
Discovery Channel during Shark Week 2012 – follows Aquarium Research Scientist
Dr. Sal Jorgensen and Dr. Barbara Block from Stanford’s Hopkins Marine Station
on an expedition off the Farallon Islands to tag adult great white sharks. The 45-minute program will be followed by a special Q & A session with one of the scientists. You might even take home a Shark Week t-shirt or a voucher for the new
Blu-ray disc of Jaws.

Congrats, “Daddy” Weedy Sea Dragon!
Our animal care team and a nurturing weedy sea dragon dad achieved a milestone reached by only four other aquariums in North America: the birth of a brood of
sea dragon babies. More than 80 of the inch-long fish began hatching on July 22.
The father, who carried the eggs in a brood pouch under his tail, delivered the young in The Secret Lives of Seahorses special exhibition. The last eggs hatched
on August 2, and we’re caring for the babies behind the scenes for now.
Dad remains on exhibit.

Market in Northern California and Reno on Wednesday, August 29, and 5% of the
day’s total net sales will benefit the Aquarium, including our Children’s
Education Fund. We established the fund to ensure that we can continue our work
with young people to inspire future generations of ocean conservation leaders.
