Are you shoe loyal?
I got into the funniest conversation with my MIL. She was raving about her new Nike Vomero's and how I should get them and on and on. After awhile I had to remind her that my foot is built really differently than hers. I told her that I'd try them on and see how they feel. I'm not shoe loyal and I'll choose whatever has the best price and feels the best.
I think I need to go to get a new Shoe Dog eval, especially since I'm coming back from injury. I didn't know it until my physical therapist showed me, but my foot had turned outward and I was using mostly the outer part of my foot. Now that it's resolved, my shoes don't feel as comfortable as before.

I own many brands - Asics, Under Armour, Nike, Saucony, Mizuno, Brooks, Puma, Adidas - and used to not give any thought to shoe selection. But now that I've put in a lot of miles there are only a few brands I'll repeat buy for running. I know they're not highly touted but I love my Under Armours. Asics are as advertised: great; IMO the accolades are well-deserved. Best of all for me are Brooks; they simply outperform the others.
For basketball it's completely different. I can't stand my Adidas running shoes but I exclusively wear Adidas for basketball.

I'm shoe loyal only by default! I got some new ones a couple of weeks ago, and they're basically the same model (just updated) that I've gotten before. I tried in others, and even did a different one on each foot, and 'the same' won out. And I kind of wanted the others to win because they were soooo colorful! But my other shoes (pumps, sandals) may be partly based on looks, but not my exercise shoes!

Ok, this is amusing me.
Yes and no. I loved my first Vomeros. Doc liked one of his but not the other. Now, I have a friend who was diagnosed as needing a whatchacallit - Stability shoe. Vomeros are Neutrals. I told her that I loved my Vomeros but they wouldn't be the right shoe for her if she wasn't neutral. Guess what? She ended up hating her stability shoes, returning them and buying Vomeros.
The problem is that the shoe companies change their shoes and our feet change their needs. So no, I'm not shoe loyal. Doc just got his feet re-evaluated and is using Sauconey now I think. One of his feet was doing something really strong at Tink - enough that we could totally see it walking behind him. The next time I need a new pair, I'll probably get re-evaluated, too.

I'm not shoe loyal on purpose. I started running in Asics 2160's from my first Shoe Dog veal. Then I switched to Asics Gel Kayano's(S+). After a couple of months (and over 100 miles) the arch in the Kayanos was bothering me so I went in to get re-evaluated. I switched to the Asics Gel Cumulus (N). I loved them. I still love them. But after about 2 more miles and three half marathons I've had to hang them up. They don't offer me enough support and I had a very painful flare up of plantar fasciitis. So, back to the Kayno's I went and haven't had any problems with the PF. I just bought the Kayano 18's and I'm liking them so far. They are an ounce lighter than their predecessor and still the same mega cushion and support.

For the longest time I was in Saucony Rides, but they changed the lacing design and I was still having trouble with blisters so I switched to New Balance for my most recent pairs. Right now I'm in an 880 which is serving me well. I might try out the Nike Lunarglide the next time I go to the store to get new shoes and see how I like those compared to the ones I have now. I wouldn't mind having a lighter shoe for the marathon portion of Goofy.

I've had Asics the last few pairs of running shoes. I'm not shoe loyal, they just are the best for my foot. I wear Nike or Adidas for my everyday shoes because they look the best. I've tried New Balance and Nike for my running shoes. Both were horrible.
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.

Not really, but I did just go back to Nike after a new evaluation at a local running store. Vomero +6, can't wait to try them out tomorrow!

I am terribly loyal to my Brooks Ariel (I'm rotating through 3 pairs of them right now to even the wear), but I'm beginning to suspect that they may be over-correcting for my flat feet. It's too close to my next race to switch, but once these three pairs wear out I'm going in for another evaluation.

Got some Asics Gel Nimbus today (N+). Tried the Vomero's but didn't like how the back felt on my achilles area. Loved my Mizuno Wave Rider 15s (N), but since I'm battling back from injury and the subsequent weight gain, I felt I needed a little more cushion in my shoe.

Impulse buy at EMS: went in for Body Glide, came out with a pair of Saucony Kinvara 2 that were on super sale. Will have to test them out on the treadmill to see if they work okay. I was in the market for a lighter-weight pair for the marathon, so these may do the trick.

What does the N+, N, S+, mean?
Going this weekend to get my first foot eval. I'm kind of excited

N+ = Neutral Plus
N = Neutral
S+ = Stability Plus
Plus means that they're going to cost more.
It also means that they're better designed for longer distances or heavier use (like the person wearing them is heavier.) They should stand up better to harder wear - which usually means more cushioning.
There are different levels of shoes. I need a neutral shoe. For day to day use, I keep a pair of Neutral shoes on hand. They cost less and they're all I need for walking around town in my normal travels. For Half-Marathons, I spend a little more money on a Neutral plus shoe - they cost a bit more, offer a bit more technology and whatever.

Had to return my Asics. My foot was moving around too much in them and it couldn't be alleviated by a smaller size or a different lacing technique. Back to Mizuno's.

Got a new pair of shoes about a month ago. Ended up with Asics again. I got re-evaluated and spent a good 2+ hours at the running store trying shoes w/ and w/out inserts, ect.
