Baby carriers on rides...which direction?

Hi everyone!

We will be taking our (then) 6 month old little dude to Disneyland in November. I've been using an Ergo carrier with him, which he has done very well with. Searching through the forum it appears I should be able to ride most available rides with him facing me in the Ergo...but I had a hard time being able to tell what the practice was for rides with lap bars. It looked like maybe baby's legs had to go under the lap bar? To me, that means that he would have to be forward-facing, which the Ergo doesn't do. Has anyone had experience with this? It would be a bummer to have him fall asleep in line then have to take him out of the carrier for something like Peter Pan.

The only ride I took him on in the Ergo was Toy Story and he was facing me. They just checked that it was clasped in the back and I was fine. He slept through 75% of the ride! That one moves a lot, so I gotta think he would have been fine in there on milder rides!

Thanks Mermaid, that's interesting to know! It sounds like they're much more comfortable with clip-type carriers than slings/wraps, from what I've read.

The only one that they asked me to forward face baby on was Winnie the Pooh. But once they saw she was asleep, they let me leave her facing me. BUT I know she did forward face in our Baby Bjourn for many rides so im not sure what they would've said if she was facing me.

I am a not-a-parent ...so sorry if it is lame...

Seems like if the baby will be 6 months in November, they're almost 3 months now... Isn't there a chance that the baby will change which way they like to be held? I thought kids quite often either preferred the snuggling of facing towards the adult, while others preferred the sights and sounds of facing away from the adult. And that some kids were very definite in their preferences.

I'm not positive, but I think this carrier only allows baby to face you (either in front, on your back, or on your hip). But I agree Cathy, by 6 months mine usually preferred to face out and check out the world around them.

That's a very real possibility Cathy. But the Ergo carrier won't allow for him to face away from me. If he gets tired of it by then we'll have to look at other options. We picked the Ergo because it's comfy and they can ride piggyback when they're bigger, but piggyback isn't a viable option for rides, lol. I'm hoping he will continue to be flexible, but we'll have to wait and see. We will certainly take him out and do lap rides if he's interested, I was more curious about what I'd be able to do if/when he was sleeping.

I believe you are right about Peter Pan, his little legs have to be under the lap bar. Hmm, we used to have a post from Panfan that detailed Fantasyland ride requirements, iirc.

FWIW, my son was a few days shy of 9 months and we didn't use the Ergo super consistently at home. I didn't use it a ton, but it was a life saver in lines over 10-15 minutes. He was pretty content in there! Flash forward to when he was 13 months and he wanted no part of it, but we hardly used it at home. I am trying to make a point to put my daughter in there for at least 30 minutes a week so she doesn't forget that she likes it! I had her in it today at the Children's museum and she was happy as a clam. She is 5.5 months! But, as it is with kids, your mileage may vary!

I've taken a 6mo and 9mo ff in a moby (I just squish whatever I can under the lap bar/belt) on: Roger Rabbit, Small World, Casey Jr, Dumbo, Jungle Cruise, Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Winnie the Pooh, Buzz Lightyear, Toy Story, Heimlich, those flying containers in Bugs Land, and Monsters Inc. And if you're in the market for a new carrier, check out the Beco Gemini. It allows for FF or facing mom or dad.

It is my understanding they will not allow a baby carrier on Roger Rabbit. The child must be on the seat.

That's my understanding as well. I don't think we'll even attempt taking the lil' dude on that, too jerky.

Suprisingly jerky one to my sister (when her younger son was 18 months) was Francis' Ladybug Spin -- probably want to skip that one, too. And I think Mater's has a height requirement, but that one has some forces going on, too.

I think the Ladybug spin may be another ride where the kids are supposed to be able to sit by themselves. I haven't done that one in a while but was unpleasantly surprised by how fast it was when I last went on it. (If was fine for me, but I was terrified I would squish my child and/or she would go flying)

If you want Francis' to spin faster put the "weight" by the door. I si5 half on the bench half by the door.
