It's a signature restaurant, vs a 'regular' one (if you're on the dining plan, that means 2 credits). It's in the parks, so I don't think a 10 year old would feel out of place. Just double check the menu. Unlike Dan, though, I have had some poor service there, but not so bad that I'd dis-recommend it (I understand that servers can have bad days), and it wasn't ever bad enough that I talked to the manager or dropped my tip significantly.
I think the in-park signature restaurants are usually less crowded because they DO cost 2 dining plan credits, so those on the dining plan tend to avoid them.

I'm right there with Cathy. Once or twice I've had a server who was just phoning it in. But then that can happen at any restaurant anywhere. The food has always been great. The atmosphere is more formal than Mama Melrose's, but being inside a theme park you won't feel out of place in shorts and sneakers. I only had one meal at Mama's, and I was royally sick with the flu at the time, so I'm not really the best person to compare the two. I can only say that I've really enjoyed my meals at the Derby.

Okay! Thanks Cathy and Dan! I think I will stick with Mama Melrose for our DHS day. Unless, of course, I can't get ADRs for some reason. Keep the tips and suggestions coming! You guys are wonderful!
