Booking your trip online vs. on the phone. Which is better?

I've heard that its cheaper to do online. Any truth to that?

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.

I don't think it's any cheaper. No reason for it to be that way. You can run the numbers for exactly what you want online and don't hit the 'purchase' button, then call. When you call you can ask if there are any PIN codes associated with your name (sometimes the emails go unnoticed into spam, or postcards get mis-delivered/misplaced/whatever - I get some for another person some times, to my address) , if there's a AAA discount available (they should be able to apply this) or if there's any other discounts available.

Make sure they're not charging you for insurance if you don't want it and that you're looking at the same room type as you looked at online, and that you're doing room only or package, depending on what you want. The deposit and pay-by dates are different for the two different types.

If you don't want the dining plan and decide to do a room only, you CAN find admission media cheaper through reputable dealers online. There are usually some other small item that comes if you get a package (luggage tags, maybe - it's been so long since I've done a package). You can do the dining plan only if you're doing a package (with a couple of exceptions for DVC Members and Annual Passholders) - so if you want that, or think you'll want to add that before you travel, you could do the package approach from the start.

    What Drince said.

Its been said that calling tends to sometimes result in possibly additional choices that the web site does not show. This is mainly the case regarding availability at certain resorts. Pricewise, its generally the same when quoted through calling Disney and using Disney's website. Just make sure you are comparing apples to apples, including any taxes and the like, in the comparison. (A good tip when shopping around for anything.)

At the same time, its never a bad idea to talk to an independent Disney TA as well. (The MP sponsors here would be a really good start.) Prices are generally the same, but there have been times where I would talk to Disney and TA's and availability for a particular resort would differ between them. So if you have your heart set on a particular location, and one place says its sold out, it never hurts to ask. (Just dont expect miracles if the story is the same between the Web, calling Disney, and a TA.)

The search function is like the Force. It may take practice, but the more you use it, the more control you will have over it!

I agree with the "cheaper" meaning.

If you do everything online, you might be missing something that could be around the dates. It's very difficult to know that unless you research every single possible discount around your time.

I usually book my trips online but do that as soon as I know I'm going. Then, when the discounts do come out (and I visit sites like this one every day), I call and get the price reduced. So, the answer could be a combination of calling and online.

I love the Disney "experience" of talking with a real person when making reservations for Walt Disney World. The reps are so nice and polite...it adds much to the pleasure of planning. It's never cost me more or less either way by phone or internet.

I find it less frustrating to just call an agent when trying to book an on site room. They can easily look through rooms to find out if certain discounts are still available at the resorts you are interested in.
