    I-5 Central Valley Lane Closures

Ha sanyone experienced the lane closures 0n 5 in Kern Co near Buttonwillow? If so, wondering how much of an effect there was , any backup before the closures, or anything like that? Thanks.

    A bientot.

We drove it both ways 2 weekends ago. South we went through around 6pm and it was maybe a 20 minute delay (On a Friday). North it was about a 35-45 minute delay (sitting still) on a Monday around 3:30pm. The only BAD thing about it is that you can't really open your windows, so you stuck sitting in your air conditioning, because they FLIES are horrible!!

Depending where you are going and coming from, (we are on the central coast), taking 101 would have been just as fast on this trip....

We drove down for the Cars party in the evening, 13th of June. We had nothing going down in the Valley itself. We had traffic about 11PM in NewHall (just past Magic Mountain) with 2 or 3 lanes closed it was slow and go. We could see the North bound lanes had traffic and lane closed for big stretches. Iirc, South bound only had the left lane closed in 1 section and it was more of a slow down because the trucks weren't travelling as fast as the cars. It was several sections last May. Whistler ended up driving home 99 (no big he was in the wrong lane and had wanted 5, but they are about the same)

We'll be coming from the Bay, on a Friday, likely be there around 6, so useful info. Hoping to make it in time for at least an hour in DCA Fri night, so it may be possible. It does seem that 101 is best for the return (not to mention waaaaaay more scenic). Thanks. Any other experiences welcome; this will certainly affect more than me.

I drove southbound on the the 5 through the area in question this evening (Friday, July 13) about 5:15. The delay was inconsequential, maybe a 2 minute total delay, I don't think I dropped below 55 MPH through the entire closure. It looked like northbound was seeing a similar delay.
