AP Early Entry plan for California Adventure

We will be going to CA on Thur for the AP early entry. We are thinking of hitting RSR right away, then hit the other two rides and along the way (at 8AM, park opening) get FP for RSR to ride again later. Only "problem" being is that I heard RSR has been starting late (7:30ish) some days.

Anybody have suggestions on a plan or can speak to their experience at CA during AP early entry. Did RSR start late?

I would check and see if RSR is running. If not, ride Luigi, then check again. If it's still not running, ride Mater, then check again. If it's still not running, have someone get in line for FP. It is impossible to predict what time the ride will "start." It seems like it's been broken down sporadically the 5 times I've been, I have never thought it was Disney choosing not to run the ride.

We are back. I may have jinxed it as we went straight to RSR and it did not start until almost 8AM (nearly an hour after the opening). If I could do it all over again. I would not risk RSR running (its been breaking down a lot). I would do Toy Story, Screamin, Maters and Luigis then right before 8, get in line with AP early entry holders, for a FP for RSR. You may wait 15 min or so (max), but then you have your FP and can ride any time of day. Plus, you rode 3-4 other rides because nobody is there.

Thanks for the advice dgehrke. Can you confirm then that as of this summer, DLR is still letting you use Fast Passes past expiration? As long as it's same day and the entry time is not in the future, they are still not worrying about the expiration time? Thank you!

No problems using FastPass past the one-hour window.

I can also confirm they are NOT enforcing FP expiration times. We just spent 6 days at DLR and never had a problem.

This past weekend Sat 7-20/7-21 We did EXACTLY as you said but with a few exceptions..

Fri 7/20: (DL Early Entry Day)After riding Star Tours,Space Mountain,Buzz,Matterhorn and Alice in wonderland with our early entry to DL that morning we crossed into DCA and @ 8am the DW got in the RSR FP line which @ this point was nearing the Animation Acacdemy while the kids and I Rode Luigi and Mater....DW waited 30 mins and we got 12:55p RSR FP's

Sat 7/21: (DCA Early Entry Day) The DW decided to wait in the RSR-FP line when we walked in @ 7am...The kids and I rode Luigis twice,Mater, Screamin and Toy Story THREE times not having to get off the ride as there was nobody in line. Then @ 7:50a kids and I head back to RSR which like we were told @ 7:00a was still under a "Yellow-Flag" (Ride not running) and got into the Queue.

Its 8:01 and still not one RSR had been heard or seen...5 minutes later the DW who was SIXTH in the FP line emerges from the 8am opening gates shoulder to shoulder crowd with our 11;40a FP's in hand and joins us in line.....8:30 am and RSR's start hitting the track...a few minutes later with guests inside them and by 9am we were boarding....

Riding 3-Times in two days is not bad IMO....Thanks for those above for the advice as it greatly helped!

NOTE: We were also told in BOTH parks that you could use a FP ANY time AFTER the arrive time on THAT day only...Yes, they were stopping people with expired DATES on FP's

Thats great! I really hope they get RSR fixed to run at the open.
Again, anyone going into early entry should ride Screamin, Toy Story, maters, etc all before 8 and hit the RSR FP line before 8, then ride RSR after your FP time. Too much risk on RSR opening at 7. You end up waiting 90+ min and "wasted" your early entry.
