2 of our group won't make it until 10AM (2 hours after opening). We have their passes and will be there at opening. There's no chance of us using their passes to get fastpasses right? The fastpasses will be for them to use later on in the day to go on rides.

I don't believe that you will be able to use their tickets for fastpasses because the tickets have to be activated. And you can't or shouldn't activate them until they use it.

I don't think so. I believe they have to be 'activated' in the system that day at the gate in order to be valid for fast passes. I've never tried it though, so I'm not sure.

But I don't want to go among mad people!

Their tickets will not work until they are scanned at the front gate, but what you can do is get fast passes early, and then double up on FPs again. In other words, get a FB for Space Mountain at 9, and then get one again at 10 (assuming the wait time is an hour or less). An alternative if you have a larger group is to persuade the cast member to let you add a couple people to your group. Generally they be quite reasonable.

Yea, it's been a while since I've been. I don't recall if the CM takes the fastpasses like movie theaters or not, meaning they just take a stack of 8 and let the group in without counting...

No you can't activate their pass at the gate because they would not have a hand stamp to go with the activated pass. You might ask the CM at the Radiator Springs Racers FP machine. There were occasional allowances made when WOC started and there were 1 or 2 stragglers in a group. Other than that one. Use them early like someone else mentioned and double up. Remember you can have valid FP for both parks at the same time. WOC doesn't count. Because of the time issues, is RSR on the grid?

You could also get FP for Splash Mtn and Indy first, since those have single rider lines, and 2 people in the group can ride that way. I think all of the FP rides have single rider in DCA, except for possibly Tower of Terror.

I can confirm this. A few years back, our family of six made it through the gate without one of our passes activating. Trekking all the way back from Splash FP distribution to the front gate was not one of my more enjoyable DL experiences.

Yep. My FILs black out ticket did the same thing and since DH was the FP runner the CM confiscated the ticket and required him to find my FIL and take him back to the entrance of DCA to retrieve and activate it.

Wow, they're tough in California. I had a ticket not activate at the gate at Animal Kingdom (I know exactly what happened, and it was because of an inattentive CM and an anxious grade-schooler behind me) - and they just gave me a pass to use in the FP machines for the day at Expedition Everest. That's one reason I really like that there are always CMs near the FP machines at WDW - - and you usually have to search for them at DL when something goes wrong.

I've had a similar issue at DL, and they did the same thing.

They did it the first time but didn't tell DH why the ticket didn't work. He thought it was an issue with the machine. The second time, DH approached the CM at the machines and said it wasn't working. The CM scanned it, say it hadn't been activated, kept it because the name didn't match DHs ID (same last name though), and told him the "rightful owner" could collect it from the front gates. If the first CM scanned it instead of just handing a FP out, we could've gotten it sorted out before we were on the opposite side of the park.
