Weather from Debby in Orlando [June]

I've received so much help from my dear DL friends on this site that I thought I would post this for all of you DL's coming my way to WDW.

Please don't be worried about the weather reports you have seen. Yes, it's raining, but it's raining off and on in "bands". It's not raining enough to spoil your vacation here in Orlando. WDW is very prepared for all of this weather and you will still have a magical time! I highly suggest that you buy some cheap rain ponchos and bring them with you to the parks. You will need them only because it's been raining on and off all day and into the evening. The rain also gets blown around a bit and an umbrella is not very helpful. But it's okay. The rain lasts 20 min and then it shuts off for another 20 minutes. The rain is not a pouring one (at least not where I'm at). The biggest annoyance is the wind. We have been getting strong gusts of wind that also last around 20 minutes. But everything is okay at WDW.

So keep packing! Keep smiling! And come on down to Orlando and enjoy your vacation!

If anyone else would like to chime in with some weather info for visitors, please feel free to do so.

If you're driving, they did have a report on our local (New Orleans) radio station that I-10 was closed at I-75 due to flooding.

So all the roads in the immediate Orlando area are doing ok?

At least the latest forecast has Debby moving again. She was really stalling out there for a while (and causing some interesting forecast "cones" - 180 degrees in the direction in about 24-48 hours!)

I have to admit that I am not up to date about the roads. You should always check your sources for the latest on that. Some roads could be closed due to flooding or even a tree coming down. But they will have detours I'm sure.
Here's a link to the Florida Highway Patrol and if you click on the region you will be in, it will list any road problems.

As for the weather, I just left my office to walk to the building directly across the street to deliver some mail. The sun was out, it was very nice. About 20 steps from my building, the rain started "splitting" and the wind picked up and swirled. It doesn't seem to want to blow from just 1 direction. Anyway, I had to open my umbrella 10 steps after that. It took me 5 more minutes to deliver the mail, I turned around and it was raining very strong. I waited with about 20 other people and the rain stopped in 7 minutes. We were all able to walk back to my building without opening the umbrellas for a 2nd time.

Anyway, that's how the weather has been today. Right now it's overcast and looks like it will "rinse and repeat".
    I hope this is helpful.

One of my students drove down to Florida Monday. I've been wondering how she and her family made it there.

Today, 6/27/12, the weather has been much better. It hasn't rained much since I've been here at work for the last 4 hours. So don't worry about the weather. And everyone have a magical vacation.

Looking at the NHC map - Debby is over the Atlantic and isn't forecast to hit any part of the U.S. again. (Bermuda isn't out of the woods). But considering this storm's history, it's good to remember that this is still weather FORECASTING.

So now it's just a matter of the ground drying back up/flooding to receed where it has occurred.

and as for cheap raincoats - get the very thin plastic ones they sell at most department stores. Small enough when folded up fit in your pocket.
