New Years Eve at Disneyland question

Offhand, does anybody know if Disneyland/DCA does a New Years Eve party at the park(s) like the Hallowe'en party at Disneyland? New Years Eve is my birthday, and this year I'm doing an additional trip to the parks to see the Christmas decorations etc.

In the past New Years Eve has had midnight fireworks, a late closing (2-3am) and a party atmosphere all for the cost of your regular admission. Whether they will ever turn that into a hard ticket is unknown. It is one of the more crowded days and unless the weather is horrible it often has capacity closures.

Thanks for the information, I had heard it could get pretty crowded in the parks over the Christmas/New Years holidays. When I was a kid (back in the day when Disneyland had the ticket books) my aunt took me to Disneyland for a New Years Eve party. It was a special event where you paid for admittance but you didn't have to use tickets for the rides, all were included with the admission. It was one of the best birthdays I've had... I was hoping they may have had a similar party. Ah well, I have my AP so I'll be able to go and get my birthday badge, anyway.... and maybe a special phone call....

"pretty crowded" is an understatement. On NYE, get there early and dont plan on leaving the park. It's highly likely you won't be getting back in.

Ditto. Bring your patience and expect your personal space to be very limited. We went in '09- there were 3 showings of Fantasmic and we watched 2 of them and then stayed at the Rivers of America to watch the Fireworks. They had a live band play on a raft between the shows. Plan to pick an area to view the fireworks and stay there, it was too crowded to try and move anywhere. The park reached capacity, I think sometimes in the afternoon. My husband vows to never return on NYE, but he's not a quite the fanatic like me.

I've been to the parks for every holiday EXCEPT NYE. The horror stories of the crowds have kept me away. I may brave it one year.

Being thankful for the gift of time.

I know other people have wonderful experiences on NYE but I think most if not all are adults without small children to be concerned about. I've only been afraid for Missys safety 2x in all the times we've gone to the parks, once was during a performance of Light Tragic ....and the other was NYE! People were climbing ON her wheelchair to get over her, a family next to us had a stroller and a toddler in the stroller and they were climbing on that to get over, we thought we had a reasonable plan, we had parked our selves next to the fence at the entrance to Tomorrowland for a good view of the fireworks over the castle, by 10:30 I was really wanting to get out of the park but by then it was too late, we were gridlocked where we were. The other family and I formed an alliance and rearranged missys wheelchair, their stroller and my scooter and a trash can to form a barrier to protect the toddler and missy with my scooter blocking them from one side and the trashcan from the other and the daddy taking the open space but it was not a pleasant experience and not one I'm in any hurry to repeat.

Life is too short to wake up with regrets ~So love the people who treat you right
Forget about those who don't ~ Believe everything happens for a reason.
If you get a chance, take it If it changes your life, let it ~Nobody said life would be easy,
they just promised it would most likely be worth it~ remember, Sometimes Miracles Hide

Wow - that had to have been very nerve-wracking for you, your family and the other family as well. It's a good thing you were able to sort of barricade and watch out for each other's backs. I think I would have been too panicked to really enjoy it.
I'm meeting up with a close friend that day to hit the parks and celebrate my birthday, we may go to the parks during the day, and if it gets way too crowded and crazy maybe just go ahead and leave (he's a little claustrophobic with big crowds and I'm not too wild about them either). I've booked one of the fireworks view rooms at Red Lion, so if worse got to worse we could watch them from there.
