Grand Californian [best time to arrive for room selection] ?

We are planning our annual trip to DL/DCA/GC in August. We are thinking of checking in on Weds or Thurs aft for a 3 or 4 night stay instead of our typical check in day which has always been Friday. In the past, we have always gotten our room request (pool view/upper floor/bunk beds) and have even been able to change rooms if the initial room wasn't satisfactory. We still want the pool view/upper floor but 2 queen beds this time. Can anyone think of advantages or disadvantages or checking in Weds or Thurs. vs Friday? The reason we are thinking of doing this is we usually go to Coronado for 4 or 5 days and the hotel we stay in Coronado has certain black out dates and it may work out better. I have no idea about the GCH, but I just wanted to say "WooHoo!" to Coronado. My family used to go every summer, and my sister and I just decided to go again this year. And of course, Disney stop on the way home.

Well to raise the chance of getting requests fullfilled, you need to go at the slowest time when more rooms are open. Wednesday would be the best day for this, Thursday not quite as good and Friday much worse. I'd suggest Wednesday or Thursday and choose the one which works best with Coronado. Also checking in early in the day will help too.
