Disney Dining Plan Combo meals
I'm sure someone here can tell me if you can get the Chef's selection at restaurants that have that option. I'm thinking of Captain's Grille or Kona Cafe where you can pick one each of 3 categories: appetizer, entree & dessert. Can this be used as 1 credit TS meal? I realize that this does not include a non-alcoholic beverage, but couldn't you then just pay for that?

You can use a single table service credit for a full buffet at 'Ohana, Crystal Palace, Boma and other full buffets. I can't image you wouldn't be able to do the "pick one" type meals for a table service credit as well, but I have never done it. Try to check the dining plan info on the official Disney site for the restaurants you are curious about. I tried to search quickly but didn't see any meals that matched you description.

When we ate at Kona Cafe in 2010 we were specifically told by a server that we could get the breakfast combo and then substitute one of the items so that we essentially got what my husband wanted to order, but with additional food from the combo. I don't know if that has changed but it was certainly an option a few years ago.

Yes the prix fixe meals at places like Kona, Capt Grille, Les Chefs...can be ordered with a TS credit. But they won't do any substitutions.

Thank you. I knew someone would know. Ya'll know just about everything Disney. I am in awe of all the knowledge on this board.
I really like an appetizer before my meal and then get the dessert "to go" for bedtime snack....mostly because I'm too full to eat the dessert. Which is why I was disappointed when they took the appetizer off the DDP. Maybe it will change again, & you could chose between an appetizer & dessert. I think that would make a lot of people happy.

I thought we were able to substitute at Kona last time we were there but I could be mistaken.

Some restaurants may 'go against the official rules' from time to time, especially something minor like changing out a dessert. I know when they first started doing the auto-tip with the Tables in Wonderland card, I had to check each receipt to see if they had.
