A CM with misinformation???? Shocking!
To be fair, in the movie world screenings usually take place before a movie is released and test screenings are done to gauge reaction and make adjustments as needed. So it seemed plausible that the screening would also be a test. No matter, it should still be fun. And if the hats have already been released into the paying world. hopefully it will be a good screening and not just a "hmm, let's go back to the drawing board."
I am surprised that I haven't seen more up-front disclaimers that Disney reserves their right to photograph us and use the images for their own purposes. It would seem that an entire audience wearing their special glowing hats would be a marketing dream.
We signed up for Friday night. I had read about it somewhere before, but we got the reminder on our Soarin' fast passes on Sunday. Will be a long night driving up after work and driving back, but I think it will be fun.
But I don't want to go among mad people!
Going on Sat the 30th.
i wonder if they plan to hand something out when you show up that basically says "when you come in you are complying with our rules" - similar to what happens in a baseball game or other sporting event. I know for other Disney events they specifically ask people to sign the waver, but with so many attending there may be just an announced disclaimer.

I just registered a few minutes ago. Thurs & Fri are full.
the difference here I believe is that you get a free thing - AND - it's mostly on a weekend. The fantasmic shows, while yes having the credit reel intro and special menu/merch, were on Monday/Tuesday and the show was basically the same. You know - folks love free stuff.

oh no. my sister wanted to come with us and she has socal pass and can only go on thursday. i'll have to try and find someone with 3 spots they can share with us, or we'll just have to leave her out and my wife and i will just go reserve for saturday. i'm a little worried about space for that running out too. if anyone can help please let me know.
My mom, sister and I tried to register for Saturday yesterday and we were told it was completely blocked out.
Hmm. The ears were for sale today and worn by seemingly half the CM's we saw and MANY guests.
They seem to work, in standard mode, similar to a magic Disney ice cube with the ears changing colors from pink to purple to blue to red. Like the ice cubes, there *seemed* to be a control that let users choose the speeds at which the color changed progressed and even one that alowed the each ear to be a different color than the other.
So, not blinking, per se, but the visual effect was pretty disturbing to me. I developed a headache fairly quickly as soon as the sun set and we didn't stay in the vicinity of the WOC to see how the show worked; I was afraid I'd be sick. There was also a quite bright Mohawk wig comprised of (I guess) those illuminated fiberglass strands and a particularly heinous blinking Mickey head necklace I'd not seen before.
I could see the potential charm, but selfishly, I hope they get a lot of complaints (I'll be sending one). I just don't see how I can handle a park, or worse, both parks, full of the things from dusk on.

we watched WoC last night and i have to say the Glow with the Show ears are really cool. THey are not blinking and annoying during the show. they are very subtle and they basically just glow and light up with the big globe light bulb things around the viewing area as they light up. I didn't think i'd be a fan but they really are cool. DD8 is apparently in dire need of a pair. Now I am almost wishing i had RSVP'd for the the show on Sat because it's the day before her B-day.
My 10yo found a youtube of an event this week with everyone with the GwtS ears. It looks great when everyone has them- I can see why Disney is trying to get as many out there as it can. Of course, 10yo wants a pair, but $25 would push her budget pretty far for a single souvenir on our next visit.
Here's MousePlanet's video of the media event where they demonstrated the Glow with the Show ears. This is also the new Brave section of World of Color.

bennette, I have serious concerns for Missy being able to ever watch WoC again too. Strobe effects are a trigger for her seizure disorder. I'm not hopeful

can she get down to the front row to see it from there? if no one is in front of her it should be better but there may still be ambient effects behind her.
I hadn't thought of that, I wonder if they would let her wheelchair down there tho

The thing was, people were wearing them last night on different random settings all over the park long before the show and after.
I could live without seeing the show again, it's not my favorite thing to do there. But just walking around was moderately unpleasant.
YMMV but it was uncomfortable for me.

crud, that falls under the flashing crapola that the ODV carts sell and we do extreme things to protect her from, just one more issue to deal with, at this rate we're going to be forced out of the park at dusk

I saw people wearing them with random colors blinking during the day. I found it pretty annoying after awhile and I don't have issues with seizures. Would it also be an issue when people wear them on rides or other dark places during the day? I would hope that if Disney is willing to offer a special day with ASL interpreters they can have a special showing without strobe lights. Maybe?
i still wonder what was the incentive for them - and the only thing I came up with were these
1) folks in the back can't see what's on the water's surface with the low fountains, so it gives them something to look at
2) it looks cool to many so they may think it's a great marketing opportunity
3) sell more stuff.
I think the tech is neat and for some of the effects i have seen on video its cool, others not so much. I still find it takes your eyes off of the water screens ahead - so I guess like everything else in the parks its kind of designed to make you come back and see the show again... and again... in order to "catch" everything. and just after a price increase too. nifty...

I'm neutral on the topic. We watched the show Saturday night and plenty of people had the glow ears. It was pretty cool to see them blink in sync with the show, but I wouldn't say it was excessive. To me, it wasn't distracting in the least bit. I actually didn't notice them until I made a point to watch them. Of course, I don't have any issues with visual stimulation or strobe effects so I'm not qualified to say whether or not they would cause harm. I'm not going to buy them, one because I'm not an ear hat sort of girl and two because I wouldn't get any benefit from them being on my own head.

Well at the 'moment' we are able to enjoy the parks at night with some creative movement and the cooperation of other guests. So far I've never had a parent refuse to turn off their child's strobe effect light up toy to help protect Missy from a trigger. To that end we always try to find a spot with the least amount of the lights in the area and if we're forced to be close I have no problem approaching the parents and asking very very nicely if it would be possible for them to switch to a solid mode while we are waiting for the show/fireworks to start. I'm going to just stay hopeful that our approach to the problem will continue to work. From the video the actual ears interacting with the show shouldn't cause her any problems, it's the random one that starts flashing strobe style I need to be concerned with. There's no way to know until we actually are in the area.
