That first comment is funny. I wonder if "Matthew" was trying to point out that the "Soda Fountain" doesn't serve any ice cream sodas.
Whoo Hoo!!!!! Just read the review of the Soda Fountain and found out that you CAN get ice cream sodas there. Not on the menu, but you can request them and they will make them for you. That just made this chocolate ice cream soda fanatic ecstatic!!!!!!

"Although we think it's DOPEY that Pluto has been downgraded to a dwarf planet, which has made some people GRUMPY and others just SLEEPY, we are not BASHFUL in saying we would be HAPPY if Disney's Pluto would join us as an 8th dwarf. We think this is just what the DOC ordered and is nothing to SNEEZE at."
I'd love to go back this week. The menu is so awesome and expansive, I want to try it all. Height Ashbury (sp) is next.

It's too bad they don't offer sugar free ice cream, though they lead you to believe they do. The menu has a blurb that says "ask about our sugar free options" on the ice cream list. But when asked, the CM's answer was that they use the exact same menus that are used in the San Francisco location, and while the San Francisco location does carry sugar free ice cream options, the DCA location does not. OK. Well, I guess they did say you could ask about options. It didn't say they would actually offer any. The CM also said she'd gotten a lot of inquiries about sugar free options, so maybe if that info gets passed along, that a sugar free option is desired by many, they'll start offering some.
I tried out the cookie bottom sundae last Thursday and it was delicious. I was in SF in April and got a sundae there... it was terrible. I love hot fudge and I think they mistakenly placed chocolate syrup on our sundae instead of hot fudge. I tried to get it corrected and got.... more syrup. I would have complained further but it was such a zoo I gave up. I was wondering if their hot fudge was just so bad that I was mistaking it for syrup. But no, when I tasted my sundae at DCA, I knew what I had received in SF was sub par.
cstephens - I didn't see the note about the sugar free options, but I will definitely ask when I'm there next to encourage that offering. I would buy it. I shouldn't have been eating a sundae in the first place last week, sugar free would have been so much better. Thanks for mentioning it! I do have to say it is pretty lame that they have signage about sugar free options and then none to offer. Do they offer sugar free toppings?
I also saw the blurb on the menu about sugar free options. Although I had already committed to a scoop of strawberry cheesecake.

According to Britt's article -
I know it's not sugar free but it's close.they even have no-sugar-added ice cream flavors.

Where in DCA is the Ghiradelli shop? Thanks!
Oh- I just googled it - I thought it was inside DCA but I see it's in downtown disney.
It's where the Tortilla Factory used to be,
on Pacific Wharf, behind the Bread factory, in front of the Baby Care Center,
just next to the former Bountiful Farms area that is now Route 66.
ETA:
No it's not. It's inside DCA. See above.

Interesting! It's not on the new DCA map: http://disneyland.disney.go.com/maps...rnia-adventure
(which is so cool to see!)
It's near "The Bakery Tour" on this map?

I was disappointed that th ey did not have sugar free options either. In fact, am I correct in saying there are NO sugar free options for desserts throughout the park? Unless you consider fresh fruits or fruit salads? I would like to see that too.
DH and my son enjoyed their ice cream the other day, and while the menu states they are 2 scoops, you see the photo on the menu which leads you to beleive it is much larger than it is; due to it being show in the tall sundae glass. A bit overpriced but I guess it is Ghirardelli after all! At $9 each, we could have had 6 Dole Whips instead of 2 desserts. Even the shakes at Flos V8 Cafe are apparently $3, so we can enjoy 3 ice creams for the price of 1 from now on. Money is not an issue, but at the same time, I am very thrifty with it so I think we will skip Ghirardelli from now on.
After dinner at the CCR tonite, we wanted ice cream, but didn't want to fight the crowds getting to and then on line at G's, so we opted for Clarabell's! There was NO line, their sundaes were cheaper than G's, we didn't have to fight the CL crowd to get there and they were closer to the exit! Also, we could sit inside at a table at C's, not outside only at G's. It was a total win-win for us!
Since it was the Brrrbank replacement, I was disappointed to see they didn't have an ice cream drink like the one Brrr had. It was like a Frappachino, only with ice cream. I think the name was a play on a California town name. Does anyone remember what it was? They don't do shakes at C's, they said they could make floats (yeah, it's pretty easy, just ice cream and add a drink to it), but I really wanted the Brrr drink, so I got a Hot Fudge Sundae instead.

The candy shop on Main Street in Disneyland has a few sugar-free items in their case. I think one is some kind of pecan thing. The ice cream place in Disneyland also has a no-sugar-added butter pecan. Ghirardelli's has one no-sugar-added ice cream - I think it's some kind of vanilla and chocolate swirl.
Maybe it's just me, but I get totally lost when people just use acronyms or letters when they're talking about locations. Sometimes, I don't even know what ride people are asking about. I guess for me, I much prefer "Pirates" to POTC or "Toy Story" or "Midway Mania" to TSMM.
I found this striking, what with Starbuck's served just across the way so I asked a CM. She confirmed it's from Peet's but they don't refer to it that way, merely as their house brand. I took a good look at the coffee paraphenalia and didn't find anything Peet's branded.
Their tea is dedinitely not Peet's brand but it's not Nestea either. Celestial Seasonings, maybe?

So I'm reading my bean feed...
"...since I don’t do drugs, I spend the money that I save on good dried beans." David Lebovitz
I checked tonight and the no sugar added options were a raspberry sherbet and a chocolate vanilla swirl.
Unfortunately they have no sugar free toppings with the exception of sliced almonds, although the enterprising guest could grab a berry cup from the fruit stand on the way in, slice things up, toss in a little Nutrasweet, and have at it. Hopefully that will change with feedback.
My sundae was huge and I couldn't finish it; nor could my husband finish his. Next time I will order a small make your own or split a full size with someone. I guess I could order more of the other ice creams for less but they are made with Dryer's and I don't think the quality is the same.
Is there a sugar free Dole Whip option? I don't get much there besides the rare pineapple spear, as I find their stuff too sweet.

We had this tonight and we all enjoyed ours. DH and I split the Midnight Reverie. Yummy! I really liked the dark chocolate hot fudge. My boys each got a banana split but they should have shared because one of them couldn't finish theirs and the other shouldn't have
. The others in our party also really liked theirs. It was a great treat
.
We shared a one scoop make-your-own-sundae, and it was just the right size. With the AP discount, it really isn't outrageously expensive (and a relative bargain compared to the prices at Haagen Dazs in DtD). I agree about the quality being better at Ghirardelli -- Dreyer's is the reason we don't visit Gibson Girl or Clarabelles. And the dark chocolate hot fudge is the clincher for us.
I fear the front line CMs are confusing the flavor options. The raspberry sherbet is their fat-free option, the chocolate vanilla swirl is their no-sugar-added option, and there's a butter pecan that's a lower fat, lower sugar (but not free of either) option. I've personally had the CMs mistakenly describe them to me twice now, and that's worrying.
