The adventures of the stolen iPhone onboard the Disney Wonder
USA Today wrote today about a situation currently playing out on the Disney Wonder.
Disney Cruise Line said it has placed an employee on "administrative leave" while it investigates the alleged theft of a guest's iPhone.
According to a report in
New York Magazine, a woman who said her phone was stolen during an April cruise on the Disney Wonder was able to track down the thief thanks to cloud technology: All of the photos that have been taken with the guest's iPhone are uploading to Apple's Photo Stream.
The passenger has uploaded 20 of the photos to a Facebook album titled "Stolen iPhone Adventures." The photos show the crew member (Nelson) she believes has the phone and images captured from around the ship, including of his girlfriend, other crew members and some crew-only areas. From costumes it appears Nelson works in dining, he may be part of the permanent Beach Blanket crew. I'm pretty sure an officer the passenger identified as the "co-captain" of the ship is actually from the Food and Beverage staff.
Disney told USA Today that they take the matter seriously, have recovered the phone and placed the crew member on leave. The Wonder is currently sailing the first Alaska itinerary of the season.

That crew member needs to walk the plank during the Pirate party... Public flogging at its finest.
The search function is like the Force. It may take practice, but the more you use it, the more control you will have over it!

I'm actually a bit uncomfortable with where some online communities have taken this, going so far as to find the Facebook pages of people photographed and revealing some personal details they probably wouldn't appreciate. It's not the fault of the other crew members that this guy is using a lost/stolen (because we really don't know what happened) phone, and it's definitely NOT cool that some of them are being mocked and embarrassed because of their coworker.

Completely agree that those who were not directly involved are unfortunately caught in the middle of a drama they did not ask to partake in. Not fair to them.

Are you talking about personal details found on Facebook pages of the people photographed? Unless their accounts were hacked, they have nobody to blame except themselves for putting that information there. They don't deserve to be mocked and embarrassed though.

I agree about the co-workers. I THINK I have my privacy settings locked down, but let's face it, Facebook is screwy. I had someone telling me that she was seeing personal details of an account that I personally helped lock down so what the hey, Facebook?
Now, whether the phone was lost or stolen doesn't matter. Even if the phone was 'only' lost - he shouldn't be using it. The moment that he started using the phone, he was wrong, no matter how it went missing.
But when someone takes a picture of me with a cell phone, I don't ask them "How did you get that phone? Is it really yours?" before they take them. Just being photographed doesn't make them guilty, let alone worthy of mockery and embarrassment.

Not exactly, but to go into more detail would be to do exactly what I'm objecting to. I just imagine more than one person is probably going to be answering questions about some of the photos that were taken, when they had no reason to believe or know the photos were being live-streamed to someone else.
