    Rude Castmembers

I'm not sure if this should be here or not but since it occurred in the parks I figured it fit.

Anyway, I was at all 4 parks on Saturday, May12 and I encountered the RUDEST cast members ever! I live in FL and have an annual pass so I go quite often, and occasionally I'd run across someone a little snippy, but never as rude as the people this weekend.

Animal Kingdom: Took my 6 yr old niece on Everest for the first time, she loved it and was so excited. It was early and there was no line so we ran around to go on again, as we went past the CM at the entrance Mia bounced up and down and said "There's and 'Eddy' in there and it tries to get you but we got away! It's so fun!", the CM literally sneered at her and she said "It's a YETTI and yeah, I know, I've been on it". I was shocked!! Mia didn't notice and kept right on going, I gave the CM quite the nasty look and ran to catch up with the kids.

Hollywood Studios: Tower of Terror, every was getting in the elevator and the CM repeated over and over (an over) seat belts go from left to right. Apparently an older lady behind me was having trouble so lovely CM just kept repeating it, she finally walked up to the back row and said "I said seat belts go from LEFT to RIGHT, the concept isn't that hard". I think there was a collective gasp from all the riders at her tone. We all just kind of looked at each other like did that really just happen?

Epcot: Nothing in particular here like the other parks, but it seemed like everyone was in a bad mood and no one wanted to be there.

Magic Kingdom: Getting off of Space Mountain my niece got her shoe somehow stuck and was having a hard time getting out, I was trying to help her and the CM never moves from where he is but shouts "Lets get a move on, I can't let the ride get backed up, people are waiting". I spun around and shouted back that I was trying to free her shoe and if he has a problem to get his a** over there and help". Not my best moment, but, after the day of rude CMs I didn't much care. He never did assist me, I complained to the CM by the door but I'm sure nothing was done.

So I was just wondering if anyone else has ever had experiences like this or was I just really lucky?

Yikes! Maybe it was the heat? I would have so said something on TOT. No one should ever talk to someone like that, especially an elderly lady. My goodness it is their job to make sure everyone is safe.
I think it happens from time to time. You get someone who is tired, or fed up with rude guests, or just a poopy teenager who is just earning a paycheck. No matter it is a bummer when it happens.
We haven't been to WDW in 4 years and I will say I have encountered them at DL over the past few years. Going to WDW in less than 4 weeks so will be interesting to see.

Sounds like you were very unlucky. The ToT CM sounds like the worst. Outrageous, really. I've never seen/heard anything like it.

We spent 5 days in the parks in late January/early February and encountered only 1 rude CM. She refused, in a very rude manner (as if we were trying to get away with something), to let my DD5 ride RnRC--even though she was cleared to ride every single other ride with a 48" height requirement in all 4 WDW parks and the 2 Universal parks. We chalked it up to the CM having a bad day. DH and I compared notes later and we had both had a bad feeling about her as we were approaching the line. She just had a nasty look on her face. Luckily, this happened near the end of her shift and the CM who replaced her said DD5 could ride. She LOVED it and rode twice!

I was there on Saturday too! Only at the MK though. I didn't have any rude cast members today, or most of the time for that matter

The only rude cast members I have encountered over 4 trips have been those in the food court at POFQ. They were enough to stop me staying at that resort a third time. Some have been less 'enthusiastic' than others in the parks, but I have never encountered what you describe. That's awful.

Wow, you did have a run of bad luck with the CMs. We only occasionally run across one.

The worst was in Mickeys PhilharMagic in 2008 when the CMs did not let the handicap (my mother was in a scoter) in before the regular crowd, nor tell us which door to use to get to the handicap seating in the back row. We could not make our way past the wave of people AND they over filled the theater - all the handicap area seating was filled! The lights went out, so we, along with 15 other people had to stand on the side - a CM yelled at us for not sitting down but we had now where to go. He did not help and just left us there! Then when the show was over and the lights came back on the CMs immediately opened the incoming doors and again - we could not cross to the area due to the new wave of people coming in. We finally got my mother up to the back row, but I needed to stay with her so I stood again!

BUT, Look on the bright side, your niece gave the Yeti a name! For now on my wife and I will refer to him as Eddy the Yeti!

I think an email is in order over the ToT incident. That is HORRIBLE by ANYONE'S standards and completely of the chart for Disney's.

I learned that you have to take the castmembers name and the time down. They rotate cast members all day long with people doing different jobs at different times. You can and should complain via e-mail or any other means you choose, but having the name, date, time, and place would enable them to give the castmember proper training.

A good description of the CM is at least a good place to start with the date and time.

I'm sure that if you provide a description that the CM's supervisors will be able to indentify him. In most cases, if the CM is known for not having a stellar disposition, it may be that his/her supervisors aren't able to support their own observations without any guest feedback.

I'm not saying any of these Cast Members were not rude but remember, you are seeing them for one minute of the day. We had a very grumpy bus driver who treated a lady in a wheelchair rudely and mumbled, "I am so tired." For all we knew, he was the cheeriest and brightest bus driver earlier in the day. That's not to say he was right in what he said and did but we didn't report him, thinking the next day would be better for the guy.

Our last trip we encountered grumpy CM's, were the bus drivers. Most of them were just crabby, crabby!!! I avoided making eye contact after a while and saying hello boarding the bus, because when I did, I got a "grunt".

Sorry you had a day like that. I wonder what was up? Crabby CM's takes the magic away unfortunately.

yep they sure do. It been more noticable the last few years for us as well. we think it's no raises, not enough staff, and yet the prices go up up up, and the cost of living goes up up up, and the only that goes up is the board member bonuses. its reall not justy at the parks.Fl. got hit really really hard, maybe the hardest with the econpomic issues and they have been effected longer as well, at least 2004 it began. we saw it coming and got out!
But if I was treated that way, at those prices, I thik I'd have to say something. lots of people would LOVE those jobs right now. right?

The other thing is that Disney likes to work their people long hours during the busy times.

Earlier this year I had a monorail platform Cast Member rudely tell me, 'I don't care' at the top of their lungs for the entire packed platform full of guests to see and hear. I pretty much let it slide, as I was asking to do something contrary to what we Guests were being told to do. By the way, it was in no way a safety related issue, nor did I ask to sit in the front, in case you were wondering. I did let the Cast Members at the Magic Kingdom Town Hall know about it. I left the Cast Member's name out of it, as I wasn't out to get them in trouble. I simply wanted Disney to know that the situation wasn't handled in a way that I believed to be anti-Disney. It was honestly the only overt and obvious rudeness I have ever encountered from a Disney Cast Member in all my life.

Make sure you include the date, time, park or resort (and location) and cast member name from the name tag. The office that gets these can research to see exactly who the Cast Member was, and will send the correspondence, through managerial channels, to the direct supervisor of the CM. Usually a copy will also go in the personnel records.

Often, favorable comments will be read at a pre-opening team meeting.

Wow that was a bad day for you, hopefully it's not a sign of things to come. I can only remember one rude castmember a few years ago on Ellen's Energy Adventure, oh and a surly waitress at Tony's in the MK. Who really wanted to go home, and rushed us out as fast as she could.

I make it a point to find a couple of great castmembers to let WDW about. I have not had really bad one in years. I wish we could complain about guests though.
