Maybe it's just me, but the Art of Animation Resort has no appeal to me whatsover! Why do the value resorts have to look so tacky?

The moderate and deluxe resorts are designed to transport you to a different time and/or place with their immersive theme.

The value resorts generally aren't as immersive, and are more utilitarian, so they get their theme across in big, almost in your face, decor. Some would call that tacky -- but it's just a different approach to getting the vibe of the resort across.

I think some of the art work was really nicely done - especially some of the light fixtures.

Clearly, they've changed the general layout around so that the doors are facing each other - is the building then somewhat open in the middle, or is it fully enclosed?

The Family Suite buildings (Finding Nemo, The Lion King, and Cars) will have interior hallways. Little Mermaid, which are standard Value-class rooms, will have the traditional outside hallways that the other Value resorts have.

Just a note on the room discounts - call WDW directly (407-W-DISNEY) and make nice with your reservation person. The codes I had from mousesavers.com weren't working that well, but my rez agent was able to use a 30% (!) code she had to get me a great rate in September at the Coronado Springs!

Or perhaps a Disney travel specialist could get the same kind of deal. Mary?

The Mermaid buildings had already been built with standard value-resort rooms when construction was stopped several years ago, which is the only reason why there are any standard rooms at the resorts at all. The remaining buildings had not yet been built, so they were all built as family suites with interior hallways. Really nicely-themed carpet in the Nemo buildings.
