    Tree of Life Closed!!

According to another website, a 5 pound branch has fallen off the Tree Of Life in Animal Kingdom. It happened during a storm and no one was hurt. Until inspections can be done, the tree and surrounding habitats and It's Tough to Be a Bug are closed indefinitely!

I hope they can get this resolved soon.

My first thought was that their "solution" would be to close all the winding pathways around the tree and just have a direct path to the attraction. And of course this would be a shame, and I hope they don't choose to go that way.

Me either, Dan. One of our favorite things is to walk through all those paths and pick out the animals we see. I am not a huge Tough to be a Bug fan, so missing the show is not a big deal.

What material is the tree actually made of? Is it crumbling? It stated it's a metal structure, but what's on top to make it look like a tree? What a shame!

I always heard those trees (Tree of Life, Swiss Family Tree, etc) referred to as "Disneydendrons".

There was a great How's It Made on the Tree Life of Life. I don't recall the branch material but the tree is build around an old oil rig, if memory serves.

What is it made out of? That's a really good question...I'd never thought about that. Anyone know?

Now I'm gonna have to google How It's Made on the Tree of Life...that'd be a good one to see!!! ...

... Got nothin'. Lots of generic things on Tree of Life (and apparently there's a movie), but nothing on how it's made. I'll have to look again when it's not so late.

The have to fix this. There is no way I'm going to be able to explain to a certain 4-year-old little girl that she can't see "It's Tough to be a Bug"

That was part of a show called Modern Marvels, originally on the History Channel. You can pick it up from Amazon.com here -

It was an upside down oil rig with computer-generated steel structure over it to create the proper look. I believe it is sprayed on fiberglass to create the wood look and it had something like over 100K leaves. (I saw the modern marvels show a while ago)...

I’m glad it’s back open and Disney did “Safety First”, opening it after they knew everything was OK. I really like that term "Disneydendrons" – I’ll have to use that.

I've seen the trees referred to as either a disneyodendron eximus or disneyodendron semperflorens grandis.

just read today, that the quick fix for the tree is ugly and very un-DIsneylike. Nets and detours to a set of ugly underground stairs, and a closed path. Makes me sad.

I saw some photos of the netting. It looks awful. I hope that is only a temporary measure.
