Booking the Treehouse at SSR

We are newbies and for our 1st stay we want to stay at the Treehouse next year. Has anyone tried and/or stayed? Any issues found. Unfortunately, SSR is not our home resort so we have to wait for the 7 month window (if I'm understanding the booking process). Thanks for the info....

We looked at the THV's at one time and there are a few things to consider:
- You are quite a bit away from the main SSR resort area.
- Its a long walk or you have to take a bus to the main resort area, just so you can get a bus to the parks.
- This is the one on-site resort where I say you should have a rental car.
- The pool area is nice - but very basic.

The THV's is definitely a place where you can get some good value out of the points if you are willing to give up some conveniences or if you have a large traveling party. I would love to stay there some time to sit back and relax.

I agree about the distance from things, and suggestion to have your own car if you stay here. There is only one parking spot allocated per unit though. It's a great place to stay if you want privacy/isolation. There are no quick service or other restaurants very close. It's best to plan to either cook/have your own food in the unit or eat before you return home. They have a good capacity, but only 2 bathrooms, one of which is an en suite with the master bedroom. This can be a challenge if coordinating showers in the morning while trying to get off to the parks. The second bedroom has a queen bed and the third has bunk beds. I slept on the top bunk as a 5'4" adult, and found it fairly comfortable.

I was fortunate to be a guest at one a year and a half ago.

I agree with the comments above.

It is incredibly peaceful and quiet, very restful. I loved it, not everyone would. It definitely doesn't feel like other places at the World, which was a plus for me. I like to get away from the noise and crowds. There were lots of birds, some squirrels, lovely trees and vines, etc. You need to appreciate a bit of nature to be happy here, I think.

The Villa itself was definitely on par with other newer Villas I've stayed at, what with the usual granite and Disney touches.

There is a boat that travels to SSR and then on to DTD and the dinner and entertainment options. Not "quick" but definitely a plus.

The walks are pretty long. Usually I love walking but our party had an ECV user; someone with a recently shattered sholder; and I had been in a car accident literally the night before my flight out and had an injured knee so we made very slow progress from walking path to bus to other bus (!) to the parks. I did not enjoy the double bus setup and would have preferred a car (although I don't know which of us might have been up to driving!).

It was very roomy and we did okay with the bathroom setup but we were not at full capacity when I was there.

My friend has an Owner's Locker and had done a grocery run so we were well prepared for food in the morning. Leftovers MORE than tided us over between meals out and in the parks.

Hopefully Toocherie is celebrating her birthday exhaustively today and won't read this but I got the bottom bunk and it was seriously the most awful bed I've had in years. I'm willing to ascribe some of this to a chronic bad back and the knee injury I had just sustained but if I had been there one more night, I was prepared to sleep on the floor or perhaps a sofa. It seemed like just a mattress on a wood frame? Survivable for children, no doubt, but not every adult.

We had a couple of issues with appliances and some weird plumbing issue. The staff were very prompt with resolving the easy issues and thorough with resolving the weird one.

You say you are newbies. I assume you mean to DVC, not the parks themselves? I'm not sure it would be my top recommendation to someone who wasn't already familar with Disney bus transportation and such.

Thank you so much for the detailed visit. It sounds great. We are new to DVC and been to WDW 2x. We love the outdoors... and learned to appreciate it more since moving to AZ from CA. This sounds like the perfect place for us. I'm not how lucky we will be, but I"ll try. I talked to membership services and they provided some insight on how to do this.

Can I ask what is an owner's locker? Haven't heard about this before???? Thanks again for so much info!

Owner's Locker is a company that rents you a storage box (you'll have to go to their website to see the size(s)). They drop it off at your resort for you as you request, and then at the end of your stay, they pick it up and store it for you until your next visit. People put items in it that they would otherwise have to bring with them each time. If I had one, I would put shampoo and contact solution, ponchos, if I was a coffee drinker maybe coffee or at least creamer and sugar if I used that, probably an extra sweatshirt. I know a lot of DVC owners (especially those with kids) keep laundry detergent in theirs.

It's a great concept for people who come back to the same location frequently.

Any big liquids you wouldn't want to carry on the plane.

Some people leave sheets! I totally would--I much prefer my own.

A lot of people have the Brita water systems in theirs--since Florida water is uck (I just get a couple of cases of bottled water when I go to the grocery)
