Avengerrail?
Does not flow like "Tronorail" but should still be interesting.
The search function is like the Force. It may take practice, but the more you use it, the more control you will have over it!
LOVE IT!
I probably will never be able to ride it since I am not going until October

Personally, I hate the wraps. It epitomizes just how commercial the Disney experience has become. I know that happened a long time ago, but at least before it was just limited to extremely high prices and ride tie-ins. I don't mind movie tie-in rides typically because at least the theme adds value. The monorail wraps are truly nothing but moving billboards. Now, why stop there? Why not start wrapping the submarines at Disneyland with advertisements? Or how about the front of Splash Mountain logs so you can even take home a picture to remind you of the sponsor?
Now, I know the monorails at WDW don't really venture into the parks (with the exception of the slight dip into Epcot, but still. To me, the Disney experience starts when you get on property, which includes hopping on the monorail to the parks. One of my favorite reasons to stay at one of the three lagoon resorts is that you get to see and ride the monorail as much as you want pretty much. I've always been enthralled by them. I love the way they look, move, the technology behind them, everything. Now, I'd feel like I'm in a hotel on the Vegas strip seeing an advertisement pull into the station. It just takes away some of the magic in my opinion.
I can certainly see and understand your point of view. You make some good points on how far things could go. I still love the Wraps! It doesn't help that The Avengers is a movie I can't wait to see!So I might be a tad bias. But seriously, I love the monorails too! One of the first things after coming through the WDW Welcome sign is looking for that first monorail for us! When we see it, we know we are at WDW ready to go! There is something special about riding the monorail. I dig the colors, but also like the changes of the wraps. Just something a little different. When I stay at the Contemporary Tower, I like to go dow to the lobby or my balcony and just sit and watch them go by. Very peaceful. Yes, it is a blantent movie advertisement, but isn't most merchandise in the stores the same thing? Think about when a new movie comes out.
Well like I said, I know the corporate part has gone on for a really long time. I don't deny that. However, selling merchandise in the stores doesn't detract from the Disney magic to me. It's a store. I'm going in it to buy things. It doesn't bother me that there's themed merchandise there. However, walking outside, I don't expect to see a rolling billboard go flying by. At least this one will never actually enter the parks, but still. Now, if it were at Disneyland, I would be even more against it. But even at WDW, it'd still kill the magical experience of visiting the parks for me. I don't expect to ride a rolling billboard. I do, however, expect to see merchandise in the stores. If I don't want that to ruin my experience, I can simply avoid the stores. It's pretty hard to ignore the monorail that's visible along the entire monorail line. You know?
How did you feel about the Nemo subs wrapped monorail that was at Disneyland?
What about the balloons and light-up bracelets and necklaces and spinnies and the myriad of other merchandise sold at outdoor vending locations? Or when a ride exits directly into a store, like at the end of Star Tours?
Well, I'd hope by now that you could understand that I absolutely hated it...
And I should clarify. I think the wraps they have done look amazing, I just don't want to see them in service around the resort. The graphics themselves are great, but putting it on a Monorail is not so great to me.The balloon and bracelets and what not don't bother me. They aren't advertising anything. Sure, it's a sign of the commercial aspect of Disney, but it's not blatantly advertising anything. If they started putting billboards in the park, or have carts walking around with advertisements on them, those would annoy me.Originally Posted by cstephens
As far as rides exiting into a store, I don't mind that too much either. It's in theme with the ride. To me, having the Monorail zoom around as a rolling billboard doesn't stay in theme with anything. Again, I'm not against Disney using tie-ins or anything, as long as it keeps theming consistent. And turning a monorail into a rolling billboard doesn't do that for me.
To me, having the monorail wrapped would be like seeing FedEx signs flying in space back when it was still sponsored by FedEx, or seeing the Energizer Bunny on Star Tours when it was Sponsored by them. It just commercializes the ride/attraction and cheapens the whole experience. That was one thing I really enjoyed about Disney. Everything was all about the theme. Sure, you could ride a roller coaster at just about any amusement park in the world, but only at very few will you get a roller coaster where you are zig-zagging through space, or flying through abandoned mines on a runaway train.
Like I said, seeing a wrapped monorail reminds me of Las Vegas, where each monorail is wrapped in advertisements, or even local light rail (here in Phoenix, where there are one or two trains usually wrapped in advertisements). It just transports me OUT of Disney and back to the "real world".
I like the monorail wrap idea. I managed to see the TRONorail in person, at Epcot no less. I am looking forward to seeing the Avengers one in person later this month.
I think that Disney is using great restraint with these wraps. They could very easily make each and every monorail into an Avenger-rail. But they don't, and I am happy for that.
As long as we don't see non-worthy things splattered across the monorail fleet, I'll continue to enjoy them. Imagine a 'The Bachelor' monorail or a 'Little Einsteins' monorail. That would be a travesty.
If there's a wrap that says, "Nightlife at Downtown Disney" or some other ad similar to the ones inside the busses, that would stink. I'm ok with the movie tie-ins as long as it's not overdone.
Working hard for that next WDW trip! December 2013
I disagree with that statement. Sure, they could easily wrap each monorail with completely separate themes, but there's two problems with saying each one could be an "Avengerrail".
1) Distinguishing the monorails. The drivers need to be able to tell the monorails apart so they can distinguish each one on the beam. If you know that Monorail Red is infront of you, you want to know that the Monorail you see pulling out of the Polynesian is Red, not the one two in front of you and that you're quickly approaching Red that's still inside the Contemporary (for instance). Making each Monorail have such a similar paint job would make this difficult. That's why the put the deltas on like colored stripes as well. The colored stripes aren't just for show.
2) It was said in yesterday's update that the wrap took "weeks" to do to Monorail Red. They have 12 monorails at WDW. Assuming "weeks" means just two weeks, you're looking at SIX MONTHS from start to finish. The movie comes out in one. They can't easily take multiple monorails away at the same time. The fleet is too old. At Disneyland they could get away with losing a monorail or two. Worst case scenario, they close it. At WDW, it's one of the primary forms of transportation between the MK, Epcot and the TTC.I don't see how it's any different. It's still an advertisement. In fact, to me, advertising something at the resort is better than advertising a movie (especially one that can't even be mentioned, let alone promoted, in the parks by any Disney employee due to licensing agreements Marvel had in place with Universal at the time of their acquisition by Disney).Originally Posted by TinaMouse

The pictures look great and I am really looking forward to the movie! I hope they keep it up until Christmas when we are going, so I can see it for myself.
It's a blatant self promotion that I'm ok with. The commercialism of Disney in general is a fact of life. I would rather see an Avenger overlay than Duffy merchandise...
My biggest issue with this wrap specifically is that it's for a brand that they can't even advertise in the parks without breaking licensing agreements. Sure, Disney owns Marvel, but as of right now, Universal has a licensing agreement that says Disney can't use the characters in their parks. Unless someone specifically follows who owns what companies, people are going to think that Universal owns Marvel since they have them in their parks, and that Disney is just selling advertising space.
And the commercialism is fine. I don't have too many issues with that. Rides based on movies, great. Merchandise based on movies, great. Parades based on movies, fine. But covering a vehicle of an attraction (even if WDW really does use it as transportation, I don't think anyone can deny it's part of the Disney experience) with an advertisement for a movie is going overboard in my opinion.
I am totally stoked for the Movie! Can't wait! Looks EPIC!! I am digging the additional Avengerail pics as well! I think it looks cool! Although I do understand those that don't like it. My guess is that it will be up until after Xmas, so they can use it to promote the Blu Ray as well as the theatrical release.
I understand where you're coming from, iceman. It's a matter of personal opinion where the line is. I don't think they crossed it at all with this. If the monorail said "Coming to a theater soon - discounted tickets available by calling....", then I'd have a problem. Or as someone else said, if they did something to all the monorails it would be too much. But just skinning one monorail to promote a movie isn't a bad thing at all, IMO. And it looks really really good!
I don't deny that it looks good. They did a very good job on the graphics. My only thing is that I don't feel it belongs at Disney. Just to clarify.
Also, it does have the release date on it. To me, that's as good as saying "coming to a theater soon" and truly makes it a rolling billboard.
Y'know, you're right. And that does make a difference to me. If it's more of an "atmosphere" thing, then that's kinda cool. If it's a blatant promotion, it gets a little sketchier. I'm very happy that I'll be seeing it for myself 3 weeks from today (not that I'm counting or anything . . . . .).
I will say that as much as I like the wrap and think it is cool, I do wish the release date was not on it. You can get the mesage across/advertising without it, IMO.
