    Citrus Swirl has returned!

It's all over twitter, but in case you don't tweet, I'd like to share the news that Citrus Swirl is back at the Sunshine Tree Terrace! It's $3.19, the same price as the other soft serve ice cream. I've never tried one, but I hope to remedy that soon. According to experts, it's different than orange Dole Whip, and uses real orange juice in the mix.

Huzzah! I didn't know it was different than what you get at the Dole counter; I just thought they changed where they sell it. I can't wait! It is my favorite Magic Kingdom snack, even better than Dole Whip, in my opinion. Only 82 more days and I'll have me one (sorry grammar police, but that was intentional).

    1999 - Coronado Springs (1 night); 2003 - DL's Paradise Pier (5 nights); 2005 - All Star Music (7 nights); 2007 - POP Century (10 nights); 2008 - DL's Paradise Pier (5 nights); 2009 - POP Century (10 nights); 2010 - Dolphin (2 nights); 2011 - POP Century (7 nights); June 8-18, 2012 - POFQ (10 nights); next trip,June 18-22, 2013 - POFQ (5 nights). If I'm not at Walt Disney World or Disneyland, I'm not really happy.

That's cool! No pun intended. I remember being 'exclusive' to the Citrus Swirl back in the day. I love my Dole Whip, but I won't mind eating a Citrus Swirl next visit. Maybe I'll get both and have a family taste test.

Had my first Citrus Swirl this past week (that I recall; it's possible I had one on a visit back in the '80s, but I don't remember it now), and it was delicious! The orange flavor of the citrus pairs well with the creamy vanilla soft serve. On my second attempt to get one, the orange side of the machine had frozen up, and I had to leave to catch my flight home before they could fix the machine.

The machine was broken again, and cast members were sending people to Aloha Isle to get one, insisting that it was the same. IT'S NOT THE SAME. Accept no substitutes - the real Citrus Swirl is made with orange juice, not orange-flavored Dole Whip.

They've also added some lunch entrees to the menu at Sunshine Tree Terrace. Check out the updated menu on our guide page!

It's always nice to have new lunch options at the Magic Kingdom.

The Citrus Swirl machine was still wonky this weekend, but at least they were serving it. From what I could tell using my decades-obsolete experience troubleshooting the soft-serve machine at McDonalds, the orange mixture freezes at the same temperature needed to make the soft serve mixture set. So if the soft serve side dispenses at the proper temperature, the orange side freezes up and won't dispense. It seems that they've turned the machine down a bit, so the orange side will at least dispense (though it's not a smooth mixture - it's a bit chunky), but now the vanilla side is a little soft.

They've also added a new "all-natural" lemonade topped with wildberry foam. The foam is actually FOMZ product, and they also offer a choice of lemon/lime. The foam added a nice tart kick to the lemonade, but I'm not sure it was worth the $3.50 or so for a 16-oz drink.

The food items are now off the menu at Sunshine Tree. The seasonal menu thing at WDW drives me crazy.
