That looks nice in the rain.
I was there last weekend and I really like the new paint job. I forgot my camera and my phone battery was dying -_- so I didn't catch any photos.
I agree ^^those photos in the rain look nice
I also agree that those pictures look nice with the rain. One of my favorite photo ops is the Monorail passing in front of the Matterhorn at night after rain. With all the light glistening off the water and the metallic monorail, it makes for a really neat effect.
One thing I will really enjoy about the new paint job is that all of the "rust" spots on the rocks will be nice and clean now. In that picture posted with the rain, it shows off the horrible rust color coming through the paint behind the waterfall. Hopefully the new paint they put on is more resistant to the water.
It doesn't quite look like a snow covered mountain now. It looks like a big rock of a mountain where a little bit of snow has recently fallen. I'll hold off any final judgement till I see it for myself. But in the pics I've seen, I like the old paint job much better.
I really liked how it looked when I was in the park yesterday, both while it was cloudy and while it was sunny.

I kind of like it but I will wait to decide for sure until I see it in person. I put together a comparison of a pic from 1959(Yesterland.com), CMHusband's pic, and AVP's pic. Kind of neat to see them all together.

I saw it today in the clear and the rain...I really like it in person, it looks much more like a real mountain...(but I've never been a fan of the overly brown look of a lot of the post '98 or so Disneyland rock work)
Well it's deffinitely better than the 1959 look.
What I want to know is what's with the dirt clods at the bottom? We walked by on the TL side yesterday and there were some barricades up against Matterhorn and when we got clse to see why, we saw what looked like dirt clods thrown onto the side. Is this part of the re-do? Is it supposed to make the mountain look realistic?

I saw a movie on the Disney Blog where workmen were basically throwing handsful of this stuff on the base of the mountain.I'm not quite sure if it's going to develop into something more, but I thought it didn't look so good just as it is.
On the other hand, while I wasn't too wild about the new paint job in the pics I saw on the web, when I saw it in person last week I thought it looked really nice.
I have to say that when they first started revealing the new paint job I didn't like it at all. Now that more of the mountain has been revealed I have to say that I think it looks good. It doesn't seem as dark as it did in the beginning. I still haven't seen it in person but the pics are looking good. Can't wait to see it in June!
We saw it last week. I liked it. It looks fresh and new.
We just love the season changes @ Disneyland
i watched a video interview of imagineers on the project and they said it has become more white over the years because when they did touch ups that's all they could do. so this time they went back to the way the matterhorn is supposed to look like. and - the south side has less snow than the north (gee, just like real life!).

Just saw the Matterhorn on the blog and it looks like they painted it more! Is it the photo or is it me? Last week it still looked all zebra-like IMO. I like it in the photo they have on the blog!
yesterday (may 8th) they posted a picture of the Matterhorn climbers who will be making a return this summer. It's an older picture - since there is no scaffolding and climbers won't be on there while in refurb (it opens June 15).
to see how the paint job is shaping up, check the blog's video on how they painted it and went for a realistic approach (including more snow on the north side). CLICK HERE

Thanks. I am pretty disappointed in the way it looks in person, just does not seem white enough to me. I guess I am used to the way it was before. Change is hard. *sigh* My entire family sees a zebra when we look at it. Seems like the darker areas should have been shaded lighter in color and/or coated with white over the dark areas, still showing the dark areas, but through white.![]()
