2013 Marathon Weekend
runDisney announced that registration will open on April 10 for the 2013 marathon weekend (January 10-13). As previously reported, the relay will not return. Next year will mark the 20th anniversary for the marathon, and Disney has promised a special surprise at mile 20, as well as a special anniversary medal for those who complete the marathon distance.
Chime in if you plan to register!

I'm out. It's the same weekend as the Atlanta Gift Show begins. If C&D was returning I may have tried to juggle schedules to do the race and then go to Atlanta, but I don't need to do Donald again.
Too bad they couldn't make it work.

It will be January 10-13, with the half marathon on Jan. 12 and the full on Jan. 13. This is not for the Princess, it is for Marathon Weekend.

Great thanks. I plan on running my first half next year.

I am planning to do the Goofy again next year. I can't wait to see the 20th Anniversary medal for the full.

Doc was planning on doing C&D to get his first C2C medal.
Now I don't know if he'll go for Donald or not.

I'm going Goofy again. If I don't add another half to the schedule beyond what I'm registered for already...Donald will be my 20th half and will be run on the eve of the 20th Mickey Marathon anniversary.

I just registered DH for his first full marathon. The race is in June. If he has the desire to do it again he might want to do the WDW full next year. I don't know that I could do it. I'd LOVE to try, but I think the training might be too much stress on my hip.

So they're bringing back the Downtown Disney after party for the 2013 race weekend:
Downtown Disney After Party
Downtown Disney Westside
4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 13, 2013
After all that training and mileage, it's time to indulge and unwind! Runners, join us at Downtown Disney Westside to celebrate your finish with friends and family. Enjoy food, music and last minute commemorative merchandise shopping. Admission to the Downtown Disney After Party is open to race participants, their guests and the public.
... Except there aren't any clubs to get in free to anymore, and it is open to anyone who wants to wander through, not just runners. So what exactly is the value adder of this event?

It wasn't all that great before, so I wonder how it will be now. I plan on flying out late Sunday after the race, so I'll probably miss it.

Do you still have the email for Visa holders? I don't remember seeing it. If you have it, can you forward it to me?

Whats up with Chip and Dale? Why isn't it returning this year?

No official reason. Probably didn't get enough people to sign up to make back the money for staging it.

The stupid race SOLD OUT. Disney made exactly as much money on that event as they let themselves make. If it lost money, that's their own fault.
Personally, I think they hosted the race as a proof of concept for something else, and it didn't go the way they wanted. Now both relays - this, and the Wine and Dine, are off the table, and that's AFTER they began accepting registrations for the W&D race.
I wish they would figure this out - the race made so much sense, and there's no reason they couldn't work out the kinks and make it successful.
