    Characters in Flight

    Hi Everyone!

I was wondering if any of you had done the Characters in Flight hot air balloon ride over Downtown Disney. Was it something really memorable? My ds (8) would love to try it. Thanks for any feedback.

My travelling companions all went on it and LOVED it. I and one other chicken stayed on the ground waiting. The view is awesome. The attraction is closed down often because of weather (wind included). So you have to be somewhat flexible. The lines were MUCH shorter in the late morning than later in the day. It doesn't take too long, but I think they felt they got their money's worth. I do think you get an AP discount--a few bucks. The balloon IS TETHERED, meaning it won't go flying away. If, heaven forbid, it did, the pilot has the training to get it to somewhere safe. The mechanism looks like a big donut. You stand around the edges with the tether cable running through the middle.

We loved it... it was mega-awesome. And to be honest, I think it is reasonably priced as well. I would also love to try it at night time next.
The flight is smooth and you can move around to take pictures, etc. The pilot may also do a little Q&A as well as well as gives you some stats about the balloon itself. It was really cool.

The search function is like the Force. It may take practice, but the more you use it, the more control you will have over it!

Um. yeah. With the balloon taken out of commission due to an accident in a similar balloon in Hong Kong, I think my initial reservations have come screaming back.

Id surely go back to it when it returns to service. Couldn't during last trip thanks to TS Debbie. (and the fact that we flat out ran out of time - somehow.)

I guess it is no different than saying that I'd never ride Splash Mountain because someone died on it. I'll probably try it at some point....maybe?

Not that you should do it on any ride, but I would strongly advise against trying to climb out of this ride vehicle while it's in operation.

You got it! I didn't think anyone would catch the story behind the story. LOL.
