    Special needs info

I am taking my father for his first visit to DLR in late september. Several years ago he was injured at work. Long story short, he ended up with a shattered pelvis. He has made great progress and walks 2 miles a day. The problem is turnstiles. When they come up behind him they bump the wrong place and cause him excrutiating pain. We found this out at a fair last year, neither he nor i realized it would happen. We have been planning this trip for sometime. Now i'm wondering what to do...Can we use the wheel chair entrance? He walks with a cane and is obviously "handicapped". Do i need to go to city hall and get a card like my friends did for their autistic son? I have everything covered except this. We hadn't planned on using the special needs lines but with this we probably will have to. Going thru any turnstiles is not an option so now i don't know if it is even possible. Please help.

Definitely go get the pass. That's what they're for.

Check in with CIty Hall to be safe, but generally, his cane should provide the access to the handicap line. Word of warning, there is a turnstile as you exit Haunted Mansion, so make sure they bring you back out the front of the mansion.

Good reminder from Mal that not all rides have turnstiles in the entry queue, but some have them at the exit. Just make sure to ask the CM in the handicap line if there is a turnstile at the exit which you can bypass.

Also, it's easy to walk more than 2 miles in a day in the parks. Encourage him to get an ECV or wheelchair if he finds himself getting sore or just tired. He may be ABLE to go the whole day without it, but will he ENJOY the day more if he gets one? It's not going to be an enjoyable day if he's thinking about each step he's taking.

thank you so much. we are spending 5 days so we can take it at his pace. yes i realized about HM exit. thank you. do they stop the whole ride for people with mobility problems? didnt know if it would be doable. since my partner and i have been there so many times this trip is all about Dad. We are staying right across the street and bringing a portable W/C in case he needs it to get home. Using the train we can get him to and from in Disneyland. CA will be more challenging but doable at a slow pace. Any thing else i should think about i would love to hear. is HM the only one with turnstile at exit?
Also thinking about getting a W/c for aladdin due to the wait times. though we will be on a disney pkg ...dont you get some reserved seating?
Something big is usually always closed in september...Thinking Indy and Splash mntn r up soon?

Yes, they will stop the ride, but you need to tell the CM at the entrance and they will give you a red card. It means you need the ride stopped. We do it for the dogs. They aren't allowed to walk on moving surfaces (paws can get caught.)
