The dining plan does not include a gratuity, so IMHO you should always tip acccordingly. When you get your bill at the end of the meal, it does give you a suggested amount in I believe 15 and 20 percent increments.

When the dining plan was first introduced, I believe it included tip - but that was only the first year or two. If someone used it during that time frame, and didn't keep themselves informed, they maybe wouldn't 'know' of the change. But you'd think when they took away the appetizer, they'd have noticed something had changed.

Drince is correct... it used to include gratuity. Now, you should add it in yourself. Its noteworthy to mention (for general conversation purposes.) that if you are in a party of 6 or more, they do auto-add in the tip, so you need to be careful not to add more unless you feel like it is warranted.

The search function is like the Force. It may take practice, but the more you use it, the more control you will have over it!

As I recall, it used to include appetizer, entree, non-alcoholic drink, and the tip, which worked great for me. Now they've dropped the appetizer, added dessert (which I rarely order), and dropped the tip. Not at all the value it once was for me.

I'm surprised that they didn't know. Just about every TS server says, "Please note that the gratuity is not included" or something along those lines. Bummer for those servers they had!

Maybe it's not a "not knowing" thing but a "choosing not to tip" thing. We had a party of 8 so we had autogratuity. It honestly made it a lot easier.

It used to include appetizer, entree, dessert, drink and TIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Those were the days and we would go during free dining with 4 people in a room and they weren't charging the upgrade per person

The one time I used it they didn't include dessert. But that was fine as I didn't usually do dessert anyway. But I always do an appetizer, so the current plan just isn't worth it to me.

All of the dining plans have always included a dessert with CS and TS service meals.

I'm pretty sure you're wrong there, PrincessTiffany. I don't remember it being included the one time I used it, which was the first year it was offered. As always, I could be wrong . . .

Tip based on the level of service received.

I like to tip unless the service is really sub-standard (which is rare).
I know most of the people serving work very hard for low wages.

Tables in Wonderland is a better value than the dining plan more often than not and gives you much more flexibility.

If you use Tables in Wonderland it automatically adds the tip! Just FYI...

We had a family from Australia sitting next to us in Chefs de France in August and said was their first time in America and they were on the DDP and it was their first day. The wife then says to us 'You tip in America, correct?' We quickly said yes. She then went on to explain that in Australia all of that is already considered in the price on the menu so you do not have to tip. I thought that was pretty interesting.

Do make sure and check. When they first started the automatic tipping with the TIW, some locations didn't add it in right away. So I always check!

Parties of 6+ should auto tip too. We always double check though.

I went the first year it was offered, too. If I recall correctly, it was an either/or thing. You could choose dessert OR an app. I always did dessert. Or, sometimes, the hubby would get an app and I'd get dessert and we'd split.

The first year I had it, it was App AND Dessert. It also included tip and tax. It was TOTALLY free. Those days were awesome!

This past week I actually had a waiter patiently point out to me that the tip was already on the bill, so I didn't need to tip any more. I was so impressed that I actually tipped quite a bit more!

And I guess there were several different versions of the dining plan in the past. I don't have any way of checking, but I could see that it might have been either an appetizer or a dessert. I always get an appetizer and rarely get dessert, so it worked for me.

Hopefully someone can answer question for me. There is 8 of us going on trip in September. We are on free dining but on three different packages. We know we will automatically be charged 18% tip but will it be on each bill or all on one. We are thinking about putting money on to one gift cards for the 3 families and using it to cover all tips.

It'll depend on if the server splits the bill or not. If you can avoid having the bill split, I think it's generally easier on the server, so I'd do that. The gift card is a great idea for the tips. I don't do the dining plan, but when I was there with my 3 sisters, it was GREAT to just whip out a gift card that we'd all contributed to, to pay for each meal.
