    Question regarding on line check in

    We have a trip scheduled for February Pop Century. I can do on line check in 10 days prior. After reading some reviews on this service I read an awful lot about folks requesting King rooms, getting a room with double beds,heading back to front desk to request another room. I do realize that rooms request are not guranteed but I would sure like to try and avoid this situation if possible. any suggestions? Also how can you be sure you get towel animals?

    You can't be sure to get towel animals but we have always had them several days per trip at both PO resorts so I guess you will. We also tip the Mousekeeper daily. I never do on line check in just so I get the chance to speak to the front desk about room requests. Good luck!

    I agree with just doing a regular check-in. It gives you the opportunity to check things and make requests because you have face-to-face communication with the CM.

    I think on-line check-in benefits the resort more than it does the guest.

    Doing OLCI is great if you dont really have any preferences. However, if room location or features is important, it would be better to talk to someone face to face upon check in, even though there is still no guarantee you will be able to get exactly what you want.

    The search function is like the Force. It may take practice, but the more you use it, the more control you will have over it!

    It seems the way we received towel animals is by tipping the MouseKeeper daily. Sometimes, we didn't get anything even though we tipped. I've learned that some MouseKeepers were very generous and others just didn't have the time.

    As far as the room request, calling a few days before would be much better to make sure your request was put in your reservations. And like GusMan said, upon check-in ask again. Good luck with everything!

    Just an FYI - Disney actually prefers that you do not call the resort to try to verify reservations and/or room requests. (I know, some people swear by doing this, while others, including yours truly, have been told that "they dont do that" when calling to check on things.)

    However, calling your TA a couple weeks before arrival to be sure that your requests are in the ressie is never a bad idea.

    In the unofficial guide to wdw, they suggest calling the resort front desk 3 to 4 days before your arrival to reconfirm your room request. They also suggest you call late in the evenings when they're not so busy. By then, your request should show up on the screen. I have had much luck with this method.

    I'm in agreement with the above recommendation. The Unofficial Guide, by their own admission, only rewrites portions of their guide from year-to-year - and as noted above - Disney prefers that you do not call the resort.

    I've had consistent and excellent success in making my room requests for specific buildings face-to-face at check-in. I would confirm and elaborate on my requests shortly after greeting the CM, just as he/she is touching the keys and searching for the room to assign - directing their search, as it were.

    "Do you have anything in Building 9 or 10, facing the parking lot?" at Pop Century and "Do you have a ground-floor room in Buildings 1 or 7?" at POFQ have consistently netted me great rooms exactly where I want them.     I just re-read your original post and realized that although you don't actually say it, it could be that you are requesting a king bed room? If this is the case, I recommend that you confirm your request for a King bed room at check-in and then ask if there are any available in Building 9?

    The reason that I suggest asking for a king bed in Building 9 at Pop is that if you look at the resort maps in the link above, you will see that Building 9 has no preferred rooms locations - yet it is very close to the buses, Classic Hall and a quiet pool/laundry. There is also no noise from the parking lot as there is landscaping between Building 9 and the parking lot.

    You are correct. At the same time, it may be best considered a "your mileage may vary" sort of thing.

    I had more luck asking at the front desk about my requests and on occasion, it worked out where if I didnt ask, I probably would have been disappointed. However, the CM's do try their best to make things happen even at the last minute.

    I also think that your time of day that you check-in makes a big difference.

    When I have checked in at 9AM it was much easier to request they switch my room if they didn't already put me where I requested.

    When I have checked in at 9PM everyone was pretty much checked in for the day so they got first pickins I guess you could say.

    Also, my biggest preference is building or room location. I don't care about floor or what it is facing. I just try to get the closest to the main building. I actually prefer not to be on the bottom floor because I find that at the values and moderates I get a lot more bugs on the bottom floors. (Except for this year at All Star Music....cockroach in my make-up bag...and no she/he didn't travel all the way from NJ thank you very much!) I find that if you only make 1 request you are more likely to get it.
