summer vs October??
I need some expert advice!! I am a teacher, so we almost always visit WDW in the summer months. We have gone once or twice over Spring Break, and one time between Christmas and New Year's. I have a short vacation at the end of October (not over Halloween), so we thought we'd try going in the Fall - a time we've never been to WDW. However, since we decided to go in October, we've heard some stories about how busy it will be! Can someone who has been there in summer and the end of October tell me how the crowds compare? Our boys will have just turned four, we'll have 3 full days on site (travel days the first and last days) and we will stay at BCV. We were planning to go to MK and HS for sure, and then play it by ear the other day. I know the weather will be warm in October, but what about crowds ie: lines for characters, attractions, dinner ressies, etc. Thanks for any advice you can give!

Done several summers and sever late October trips, including this past October.
I would say that we got as much accomplished during a 5 day October trip as we did during an 8 or 9 day summer trip.
The crowds are better, the weather is better, and you also can be there for the MNSSHP and the Food and Wine fest.
The search function is like the Force. It may take practice, but the more you use it, the more control you will have over it!

I'm surprised you heard it was busy then. We've gone once in the summer, once in October, and the summer visit was much hotter, much more humid, much more crowded, much more exhausting. The only down side is that in October the days are shorter as are the park hours.

And while that may be a downside to some, (and I had a similar thought at one time) it actually gives you a chance to see other things such as downtown Disney, have fun at the resort itself, or get some extra rest. In essence, it forces you to not wear yourself out touring.
Of course, starting early, at rope drop, and taking advantage of EMH's helps gets the most our of the touring day.

I've gone in October (Columbus Day week or the week after that) every year since 2008 and I've NEVER found the crowds to be a problem that time of year. I'll be booking this year's October trip soon!

I love WDW in October. I have noticed the crowds have picked up a bit the past few years but in my opinion they are nothing like summer, spring break or Christmas. It sounds as if you are use to busy times. If you were a family that always traveled in the off season I could see where perhaps it might seem a bit busy but I don't think it will be the case for your group.
With children that young I would suggest if you plan on hitting Epcot at all to go mid week and in the daytime. Food and Wine Fest gets very crowded over the weekend. I would also try and do MNSSHP.

October is a really nice time to go over the summer months. There's not a daily rain, the weather is more pleasant, and it's still warm enough to swim. We've gone the last week in August the last two years, but it's so HOT! And it was surprisingly crowded!!! I would choose October any day over the summer months.

I would definitely go in October. Food and Wine Festival is an awesome time to go. I saw so many younger kids enjoying the Kim Possible games while the parents go to sample some different foods. I even saw some kids begging their parents to try new foods.

I own an offsite timeshare during week 44 which is usually the last week of October / 1st week of November. It's one of the best times of the year to go. Weather is usually beautiful and crowds are sparse compared with the summer. If I was given the choice between then and summertime I would pick October every time.
