Uh, it's an iPad.
OT: Have you tried Nuun? I love it. It's not sugary. They are tablets you add to regular water.

BTW - THANK YOU for recommending that when you did. I found a local source and really like it for my needs!
And Fairest, I'm really glad you were drinking at the water stops, too! I can't imagine only drinking one bottle for 11 miles! Even if it wasn't New Orleans/Orlando humid/hot out!
Cathy
I should have clarified to begin with. I take water at all of the stations but bring my own electrolytes.

I am running the Seattle Rock 'n Roll Half Marathon June 23 and then will not run another race until Disneyland Half. Any suggestions on how to train between the two?
I'm probably not the best to offer advice on this (I tend to slack off too much after a race), but.... I'd just take whatever training plan you'd have done for the DL half and follow that after your Seattle race with two twists. I'd make sure the week after the Seattle Half is fairly light, and then just pick up the DL plan with whatever you'd do that week if you'd been following it all along. So if SEA is 9 weeks before DL, 8 weeks before DL take it a little easy, and 7 weeks before do whatever the plan says to do 7 weeks before the race.

I have a fuel belt with two bottles and I still grabbed water from water stations almost every time we past one. I also refilled 1 bottle at about mile 9. I am tempted to run with my handheld bottle, but I don't know where I would put my iPhone, I don't like the arm band holders.
I'm not much help, there. I've only carried my iphone wiht me on a race in my last race (a local 10K) and I don't like to have music when racing - and only about 1/2 the time when training. But, I bet one of the fuel belt attachments could hold your iphone -- or if you want to go belt-less, I've recently converted to www.sparkleskirts.com. And they have some really cute ones! They have three decent sized pockets on their tech skirts! The waist zippered one gets ID/etc and phone (note, if you sweat a lot, stuff in this pocket can get damp - I had my insurance card in it on my 10K race since I normally store that in my wallet, and I had to get it replaced! But this pocket goes from side seam to side seam); during training one gets keys and the other gets gels. I also added a pocket to the outside of my water bottle carrier, so I put my nuun tablets in there, though they could easily go in a pocket of my skirt. (I also carry kleenex in my skirt during a race, since you never know how supplied the portolets will be!)
If you have an arm band holder for your phone, can you rig it up around your water bottle?
Cathy
Hmmmmm. This is the bottle I use: http://www.roadrunnersports.com/rrs/products/CAA125/ so it already has a pouch, but it's not big enough for my phone. But your suggestion of adding the arm band to it has me thinking! Thanks Cathy
I was thinking the same thing.
I use an Amphipod waist pack that fits my iPhone, or I squeeze it into my Race Ready shorts--the middle pocket just fits the phone. For either one I put my phone inside a snack-sized, zip-top plastic bag to protect it from moisture. You can still use the touch screen through the plastic.
I've been looking into a sparkle skirt for the DL 1/2. Does your phone bounce around and jostle the pocket when you run? I have a spi belt that I carry my phone in, but lately it's been riding up and moving around. It's probably too loose, but I'd rather be able to run without it and have the phone in a pocket.
My phone doesn't move at all. My keys (in the leg pocket) don't move, either. The zippered pocket isn't much deeper than the phone is wide.
And the service you get from Sparkle Skirts is fantastic. I haven't had any issues, but I know she'll tweak things on a skirt to make them 'just right' for you.

Caribelle- I've been entertaining the idea of a handheld bottle lately since I always grab a bottle of gatorade before a long run. I hold it and (thank you Cathy and your sister for this) holding it keeps my fingers from swelling. I usually finish it somewhere around mile 11 and then just toss it in the garbage. I'm not sure I'd want a water bottle that I had to carry at the finish along with my food, medal, another drink, etc. I always feel out of hands. I'm an armband girl though, I admit. It took me a bit to get used to it, but I'm sold.
As far as skirts go, I'm in LOVE with my lululemon pace setter skirt! I did a 6.5 miler in it last week and it didn't move. Plus it's adorable.

I started reading this thread to see if anyone was doing the 5k like me (at 27 wks pregnant lol...hoping to keep up that 16 min mile pace), and my sister ( who will be 20 wks pg too), but now you've all inspired me to make a goal to do the half marathon in September 2013
. I'm going to keep reading here, and I'm sure I'll be back next year to get advice on how to start training since all I've done are a few 5k's. Good luck to you all!
Ps, those sparkle skirts are so cute!

I have VERY happily retired my spi belt in favor of just the Sparkle Skirt pocket.
No, it doesn't jostle. I will say that my first race with a skirt, I switched from spi belt to ifitness belt which I liked MUCH better. (I liked the spibelt but they twist and turn and the 'form fitting' part made it harder to get things in and out of the pockets than the ifitness belt.)
But I did not use any belts in January, just the skirt pocket, and I was MUCH more comfortable. I carry my shot blocks and phone in the big pocket and my son's small compact camera in one of the leg pockets in the compression shorts. I MIGHT have put a phone in the pocket of my other compression short leg. There's a small pocket in each leg of the shorts. And no, it doesn't bother me at ALL when I run and I LOVE the easy access to the camera!!

Has anyone interpreted the hand-wavey cartoon drawing to determine where runners will be going in DCA?

You ladies have sold me on the sparkle skirt! Thanks for the help!
If my family wants to watch me run is the best spot in the esplanade and then again some spot near the finish line How early do you line up for the esplanade? Is there a lot of fun picture opportunities on the run like with characters and is there lines? Once you get out of the parks is it pretty much down to business?
1. Yes, that is a good plan for them to see you multiple times. Getting around to other spots on the course isn't very easy unless you use a bike due to road closures and parking restrictions.
2. There are a lot of character photo opportunities in the parks, and they will have lines. The photographers try to work as quickly as possible, but the popular characters may take some time to get to the front depending on when you are passing through.
3. Once you are out of the parks, there are no Disney characters. There are other performance groups, bands, cheerleaders etc. Toward the end of the course you pass through the backstage area of DCA, and in the past they've had some Pixar Play Parade floats back there.
By the looks of the map we should be out of Disney property by Mile 4? Until we hit the backside of DCA again at the end?
I'm tryint to work out a strategy for my fast friend haha She wants to get pictures and the "experience" with me until we end the park portion, then she can take off at her own pace.
