Made a trip down last weekend for the specific reason to say goodbye to ElecTRONica. I am really going to miss it. Here's hoping the Mad T Party is just as much fun.

Yes..... I have to. I thought of it as an abomination. With as much resources as Disney has available, the time, effort, budget dollars could have been so better well spent.

    Goodbye Electronica...Hello...uh...Mad T Party!?!?!

I really hope they don't bring in the Avengers. I'm one of the keep Marvel out people. I have no opinion on Electronica or Mad T Party but I do have an opinion on Marvel. I already hate to see it at the Disney Store.

While I don't necessarily agree with your hate of ElecTRONica, I totally get where you're coming from. I HATED GlowFest and couldn't wait for that one to leave. However, I think your a bit too optimistic over Mad T Party. Everything you hated about ElecTRONica will still likely exist in Mad T Party, just in a slightly more confined space. I'm sure Disney will still be tweeting about the nightly DJs, there will still be flashy lights, loud techno music, and the occasional drunken imbecile, and it will draw the same kind of audience that came out for ElecTRONica, perhaps with the caveat of TRON geeks being exchanged for Tim Burton fangirls.

I liked ElecTRONica (mostly because I am one of those aforementioned TRON geeks), but I will admit it probably outstayed it's welcome, and I was hoping that once it was finally over Disney could move on with their lives and let this whole Dance Party thing go, but it looks like these kind of antics are here to stay for the foreseeable future, and I'm not particularly happy about it.

so funny, I really enjoyed Glowfest way more than Electronica. Maybe because Glowfest just seemed so much more kid friendly? My kids loved the screens that made them look all crazy and the dancers were way more interactive with the crowd and kids than the Electronica dancers. Electronica while cool in it's own way, was too loud for me and way too clubby. I loved Laserman though. I am hoping MadT, follows more Glowfest with the family friendly vibe. I think MadT is a good way to go even though the movie came out years ago, Alice is still an active part of Disney, unlike Electronica that should have faded away with the DVD release.

I'm not optimistic about Mad T Party at all. I think it has the potential to be one of Disney's worst ideas ever. Tim Burton is a filmmaker of extraordinary and unique vision though admittedly, not for everyone's taste. Haunted Mansion Holidays works because Tim Burton's world is still kept at a distance. Passing through the sets and scenes of HMH, the guest riding in the Doom Buggy omnimover is still on the outside looking in just like a movie. Mad T Party's attempt to bring Burton's bizarre vision into street party atmosphere has the potential for taking what is supposed to be fun and have it cross over the line into silliness for all but a very limited demographic. I could be wrong about this, but the advance artwork just has me shaking my head and mumbling to myself "what are they thinking?".

PS. I wasn't a complete TRON hater. I enjoyed the performance of Laserman. Flynn's Arcade was a blast from the past. End of Line Club? Sure, I think DCA should be allowed to sell adult beverages. I could always walk away from the pounding music and dance stuff and leave that for people a lot younger than me. What I didn't like was the obtrusiveness of the staging and equipment, the endless repetitiveness of the projections on just about every flat surface, an annoying emcee that looked to be more like a rip-off of Joel Grey in Bob Fosse's Caberet than anything from the modern tech world, and the fact that after 6 months, well, that should have been enough. I experienced ElecTRONica once, glad I saw the spectacle of it all, and walked away knowing I would never go back. Imagine, not wanting to go back to a Disney theme park attraction - that's just not the Disney way. This is all personal opinion of course. I guess ElecTRONica was popular though the night I saw it, it wasn't very crowded at all. There is nothing firm but there are tentative plans for a TRON 3 (though TRON: Legacy was not hugely profitable) in a few years, maybe ElecTRONica comes back in some form, only next time, stick it in the Innoventions building. Oh, forgot, no alcohol in there, won't happen.

I think it was brought up earlier in this thread, but honestly I think the best solution would be to have some kind of venue in Downtown Disney to accomodate these kind of things. That way the people who enjoy these things get to have a space for it, and the people who don't won't have to deal with it invading the parks.

Call me crazy.....or mad if you must....but I think that no matter what one's opinion on the matter is.....the reason they are doing a THIRD dance party at DCA is because they are popular and work....not my cup of tea EITHER......(cup of tea!!!! Get it ????) .....but just saying.

Is the Rumor about the Mad Tea party soft opening May 25 true?

  12. #61

I'm not sure but they have a huge stage area that I saw on Friday and it looks so cool. It even looks like they could host a party at any time so even though I have no intel or support to my claim they could possibly do a soft opening (just by how it looked as of last Friday).

it's what I read... but nothing official, though I am sure they would go early to test the crowd flow so as not to wait for the 15th.

One of our friends will be working at MTP, and he mentioned a soft opening. So this Friday may well be right...
