Congrats on your upgrade! So magical! I would love to stay at a monorail resort on our next trip. Since staying at the Contemporary, would you "pay" to stay there? Was the view and location and monorail enough to make up for the "neglected areas?" Just wondering your thoughts?...?...
I would not pay to stay there
I stayed at the Poly with my parents once and LOVED it there and I have stayed at the Beach Club for a few nights. I really liked the Beach Club too as you can walk to Epcot and the Boardwalk, but if I had the money I would choose the Polynesian. Never stayed at Wilderness Lodge or Animal Kingdom Lodge but I love visiting them! I would like to stay there, but I think the Poly (with the monorail and view of MK) just makes it seem more Disney. In fact, I am thinking about staying at All Star Movies next!!! Save the money for visiting and dining at the other resorts!

We have stayed at the Beach Club twice. The last time we were there we were not impressed with the "common areas." The interior of our room, resort location and Stormalong Bay were great though! We have also stayed at the All-Star Movies. We were in the Mighty Ducks section. It is not in the "preferred" location for ASMo, but it is very close to the bus stop for All-Star Music. We really liked it. We were on the top floor so it was very quiet and we just walked down the steps and took a few more steps and we were at the bus stop for All-Star Music. I have stayed at all three levels of the on-site resorts and have always received that great Disney service. I am sure you will love the ASMo! Thank you for your opinion about the Contemporary! We are hoping to get to WDW again at Christmas this year and we will stay at Bay Lake Towers if we can get in with our DVC points. I love the location and the fact that the monorail is so close.
Awesome, I would jump on that upgrade as well (unless it was to a much smaller room). That would be quite a stroke of luck.
Every time I ride the monorail through the contemporary, I tell myself that someday I will stay there. So far I have not.
Right now my next reservation is at OKW, but I am toying with the idea of switching it to Bay Lake Tower. Right now I don't know how many family members are coming, but if it turns out to be a small enough group, I will switch from the Grand Villa at OKW to a 2 bedroom at BLT.
I am curious how long it took you to get from the contemporary to Epcot?
It is a shame that Disney has been gradually lowering their standards. There was a time when cleanliness and maintenance were a very high priority. These kinds of changes, that don't much effect the bottom line (and possibly even increase profits by saving on labor) short term, really hurt long term. But so many companies now care much more about short term profits than long term.

As far as the travel time to Epcot goes, we took the monorail from Contemporary to Ticket and Transportation Center and switched to the Epcot monorail. It really did not take that long and the monorail to Epcot is very nice as you travel through FutureWorld before you disembark!
Don't have any pictures of the beach area in its slovenly state! I was a bit sad to see it in poor condition. There were tons of turkey vultures and a some kind of water rat walked out of the lake! Kind of freaky! But I would stay there again!!
