Our September trip to WDW was truly MAGICAL. Yes, we were to lucky to receive an upgrade from Coronado Springs to Contemporary (Garden Wing). It was so totally unexpected! I had requested the Casita area since it was the closest to the main building but it wasn't available. The only rooms available were the furthest away. The CM said to hold on and he made a call. I thought he was just checking on Casita area again, but he came back and asked if we would like to stay at the Contemporary! I looked at my girlfriend (who knows nothing about WDW) and said YES! They called for a taxi and we were whisked away...just like magic! It was a fantastic trip and I was so grateful for that upgrade. The only thing the CM said was that the resort was really packed because of a convention. So maybe that is why it was offered!
To tell you the truth, I was a little torn because I had been planning to go to Coronado Springs and of course knew everything about the resort, dining, etc. From all I read and the photos I had seen, I was looking forward to it. It looked like such a beautiful resort, but I could not say no to Contemporary. I stayed there in 1976 on honeymoon with "former husband" and really didn't think I wanted to go back! But like I said, you can't say no to deluxe!
Sure glad we accepted. I was slightly disappointed in the upkeep of the resort. Many areas were not maintained as well as they should have been and the beach area was very dirty on more than one occasion. If fact, I mentioned it to a CM one morning. I wanted to sit out there and the mess from the night before (left by guests and birds) was disgusting!
On the plus side would be location. Being on the monorail line was very cool. We stayed in the Garden Wing with a gorgeous morning view of Bay Lake. We could walk to Magic Kingdom, see fireworks from the resort grounds as well as upper floors of the Tower. We watched the monorail run through the resort and enjoyed adult beverages at The Wave. My sister-in-law went to the spa for a fantastic massage and I spent a lot of time walking the grounds and taking pictures! Loved seeing the Electric Water Pageant from our resort and/or room twice a night!
I will attach my favorite pictures here and if you have any questions, just ask!
