room locations at Port Orleans Riverside
Hi all...quick question. I've booked a King room at POR. Does a King room translate into being in the prefered area (closer to the main buildings/pool?) or do they have rooms w/ king bedding scattered thru out the resort?
I'm thining of trying the online check-in after reading the other thread about it, but thought it might be nice to know ahead of time if I was going to be way out in no-man's land @ POR.
Many thanks!

From what I read, they are spread around the resort.
My suggestion, skip the on line check in and see where your room will be when you check in. That way, if you are way out in the middle of nowhere, you might be able to change it. Keep in mind that the # of king rooms is rather limited, so you may have to be flexible as well.
The search function is like the Force. It may take practice, but the more you use it, the more control you will have over it!

I called and you are correct, they are scattered around the resort. I did make a request of the very nice CM who took my call, I requested either side - Magnolia or Alligator - first or second floor, but a new, renovated King room. She noted it in my reservation. As I type I don't care where on the resort we end up, although once I get there I am sure I'll appreciate a room near the bus stop. I'd rather have that then be near the main building. Mostly though I am hoping to get a renovated room, as we've not been the POR resort in years.
Thanks Gun!

As you probably know there are all sorts of unofficial websites for specific resorts. The one for Port Orleans is pretty good and I think is titled something like the Unofficial Visitor's Guide to Port Orleans or something like that. I'm sure you can google and find it.
I was looking at the unofficial resort website not too long ago (I stayed in POFQ at the beginning of September) and it had quite a bit of detail about the refurbishment schedule of the rooms.

I did online check-in this summer for the Poly. They honored my request for a certain longhouse, Fiji. The room however was right next to the elevator and we weren't thrilled about that, so we asked for a change, and they gave us a better location in the same building. They were very accommodating, so just because you use online check-in doesn't mean you can't change a room location once you get there.

At POR I'd ask for buildings 14, 15 or 18. Ideally in front of a quiet pool, but that's only two of those buildings and I can't recall which two.

We stayed in this exact building in May and was right next to a bus stop and a very nice quiet pool really close. Although with us we like the main pool with slide better. Just us.

WOW!! This looks so much better! We have stayed in the AB sections of POR three times and this will aleaviate a lot of the issues we had as a family of five. Queens beds Yes! Ba bye Trundle! Good stuff!

Yes. There is a point made though, that there might be a lack of space to put things. For those guests that drive to WDW, some extra clothes hangers would come in handy.

That is an excellent point, Barbarella. I took extra hangers this time--those really thin ones with the velvety-felt covering that grips the clothing so well. It really helped with space planning, and my clothes weren't wrinkled!

Ooh that's a massive improvement thanks for posting. We love POR but thought we couldn't manage again with the trundle. I'll happily swap draw space for that pull out. We're never in the room than much and even coming from the UK I always pack coat hangers!

I actually switched from a king room to a queen, in case we bring the kids. If we don't - I'll switch back to a king if possible (assuming availability). I've requested a room in the newly renovated area - it does look nice, doesn't it!?

So the boys may go? I don't think my kids would ever allow me to go without them, even when they are all "grow'd" up...I told them that's when they will be taking ME! LOL!!! POR is so beautiful! I love the theming and landscaping.

Apparently 1 (out of 4) buildings has been refurbished with the 2 Queens and fold-down bed option, with the rest to be completed by December 15.

Well you know me, I'll never win any Mother of Year awards cause I'd go in a heartbeat w/o them! ha! Their father on the other hand is a closeted softie.....we've been 3 times w/o them now, and it's not caused any issues. This time around it occured to us that we've got enough point for 2 tickets on our southwest card, so we don't have to shell out the $$$ for two more airline tickets, and the cost to add them to the package would be the costs of tickets only...room is already paid for and they'd get free dining. Add to that Eric thinks this is the last time we may get down there as a family before the boys are to old/in college/whatever. Added to that is the fact that we expect to be spending most of our big "family" vacations in the Bahamas over the next few years. Then there is the fact that the boys are old enough to go on their own thru the parks and all that...I think Eric wants to set them free at WDW and see how they do! So yeah, I think we may take them along. #1 son will be fine with it, I think, and looking forward to it. #2 son - maybe not so much
, he's likely to be a bit put-out at first. I think once he's there he'll have fun though. Besides - they'll be traveling more & more on their own soon - so letting them loose in WDW is good practice. Plus we will have them do the airport on their own --- navigate check in &/or security and find their gates. Good practice, they navigated MIA last year on their own, so PHL shouldn't be an issue.
So, yeah - we switched our room to a Q from a K! Back to good old POR.

I love how the fridge is in a cabinet made to look like a pie safe! The fold-down bed is a nice option for families with more than 2 kids.

Anyone ever see an actual DIMENSION on the fold out bed? All I've seen is 'small adult'.

Can I just say the bathrooms look so much better. The tiling on our last visit was definitely a bit past it. I'd also like to know the bed dimensions.

I'd guess (and I do stress that I'm guessing) that's a single bed or bunk size mattress. I'm basing my guess on the size of the TV (in relation to the mattress area) photo. And also for mattress replacement purposes, you'd want a standard size of mattress to keep costs down.
I'd consider myself a small adult. I know that years ago, when I'd read my son a nighttime story in his little single bed, we both fit in there, but I wouldn't have liked to actually sleep in his bed all night.
We may have to wait until someone with a measuring tape actually stays in the room to find out the size for sure. But even if it is a single bed mattress, because there's no headboard, I don't think that bed is suitable for children under 4. I do think it's fine for most children between 4 and 12 - who are in the average percentile for weight and height for their age group. Just my opinion, your mileage may vary.

Really enjoyed looking at the photos. Clever little pull down bed with the scenery behind it. I'd like to know dimensions...it's probably close to what we have in our camper, which is a bunk bed above the queen bed. It's made for a child or small adult. Very similar in size as it looks.
Les,
I'd say go for it and bring the boys...as they are growing into young men and you are right, they probably can handle the parks on their own and really enjoy their time. That's when they'll get spotted by that "older" group that's going...LOL!!!
Looking thru the years, I just can't believe that our kids are teens and time is slipping by all too fast! Enjoy them while you still can and they want to go on vacay with you.

This is excellent advice! The time you have with your kids is so fleeting and precious, enjoy it while you can!
That said, my kids have been super supportive and encouraging when I've gone on business trips that involve WDW or DCL (*I* was the one who cried all the way to the port because it felt so wrong getting on the Dream without them!). And my kids are really great people, who I love to travel with, so I'm in no hurry whatsoever to leave them home and go with my husband without them. We know that in just a few short years, we'll be able to do that (and we have a list, believe me)...and at that time, it will be hard to get the kids to schedule time in their lives to come with us!
