MouseAdventure Zone Recap & Discussion!
For the first time in 7 MA games, I could not attend the post-game awards. I'm burning with questions! Who placed in each division? What was the hidden quest? What is the answer to the logic puzzle from the Saturday night game?
Today my adventure began like a nightmare. I totaled my car on the 5 south on the way to the resort. I walked away with nothing more than a bit of muscle soarness. I'm so thankful. I joined my team a bit before noon today and did a bit of puzzling. This was a great game! Thank you MP Staff, MA Staff, and all the volunteers!

Yikes, I'm glad you're okay from your accident!!
Another good game put on by the MA crew. FABULOUS materials, inventive new quests, I loved everything (except how poorly we did haha). A longer recap tomorrow as I am about knocked out.
Hidden quest was the last page of your TZ guide, the "solution to last week's puzzle." If you look at the black squares, you'll see that some of them form arrows pointing diagonally. If you read the boxes diagonally you'll come up with a question asking in what episode a Twilight Zone character regains his youth. I knew that question mark looked suspicious!

Thank you for the hidden question info. We knew it was the crossword solution, and that it has something to do with the arrows, but despite much staring, never quite got a question out of it.
Our game went moderately well. Only worked on 5 of the quests (plus trivia and eye spy), but we finish and got the right answer on all 5, so that was good. I feel like we did relatively well for a team with 3 new people
It was great fun! Another great MA and I handed out all of my "what are you doing?" cards but 1!

There's just SO many possible responses to this one. The THINGS players won't do for the love of the game. "What's a little airbag dust?"
I'm very very glad that you walked away from the accident!! I'm amazed at your level of endurance.

Thanks MA staff! From a team formed completely by newbies, we can say that we had an absolute blast! I can totally see why people do this again and again and again!
We worked on five of the quests plus the eye spy and trivia. We got four of the quest answers correct. We ran out of time on our last quest and couldn't finish it. We learned a lot that we'll be able to apply to future MA events.
Does anyone know if we will be told our scores? I'm curious to see how we did.

Generally there's a recap article the week after the event. Sometimes a little earlier in the week, sometimes a little later. But generally that recap will have the full scores.
Question on the hidden quest - is the answer actually found in the park where the event was taking place (DL for basic, either for Advanced)?

I knew we were in trouble when we opened the packet and drew a big blank! Normally, we organize the quests by land but this time, for some reason, it was a lot harder to figure out which "land" the quests were in and some were all over Disneyland, which made solving them a lot harder and, in reality, proved impossible for us. I guess we are spoiled with the "if the questions are in one land, the answer is in the same land" rule! We spent too much time on the tiny photos. We could tell we were in trouble when we tried to put the Haunted Mansion photos in the correct order. Did anybody actually solve that quest?? Should have been worth 100 points!
We skipped the Frontierland quest--who in the heck is Nancy?? We skipped the Fantasyland quest--I figured counting those horses was going to be tough. I have to give props to my brother's team for making a diagram of the horses and solving it that way. Very smart!! We wanted to do the Roger Rabbit one but the wait time was 45 minutes so we skipped that. We did the "easy" 20 point New Orleans one that took us waaaay longer than 20 minutes to find that darn toilet water! I was sooooo grateful for the Tom Sawyer quest!! I knew exactly where the graveyard was, knew exactly how to solve the puzzle and knew exactly where the highest point was (the treehouse). I think we spent about ten minutes on that one! Yahoooooo!!!
We were grateful that we didn't actually have to ride Splash Mountain, although we could see that many teams did. It was a little frustrating to have the two false answers turn out to be true but fortunately we were told right before we were about to solve the whole quest. Would have been a whole lot worse if we didn't get that info right in the nick of time--thanks, Joe!!
We did good on the Main Street quest and got very lucky that the "Club 55" window happened to be the very last window we looked at instead of having to backtrack. We enjoyed finding the "photo spots" but, like many other teams, we couldn't figure out where the camera shop was (Toontown) and spent waaaayyyy too much time searching the darn Photo Supply store on Main Street! I liked the signpost eye spies and wish we were able to look for more of them but that's the way it goes.
We went ahead and did the competitive version mainly because we had to try to beat my brother's team (they beat us by 4 points!! So sad!) and we were also tired, cranky and hungry by then! lol
As always, a VERY challenging MA! Thanks for all of your hard work!!! Thank you very much for the cards to hand out to people. They appreciated getting them and it sure made it easier for us.

The Squirrel Squad had a great time in the MouseAdventure Zone. We all had a blast and thought the puzzles were great for this MA.
As soon as we got our packet, we started going though the puzzles and decided to go to Tom Sawyer Island first. We didn't know where the graveyard was, but as soon as we found it, we wrote the dates, walked away and solved that puzzle pretty easily. That was a huge confidence booster.
Then we headed to Critter Country... A little more confusing, but after a few minutes of walking around and scratching our heads, we figured it out. Unfortunately we didn't get the answer to that quest correct in the end. I was bummed.
My sister spotted the question mark in the "previous week's" crossword puzzle, and after staring at it for a few minutes, I figured out the up and down words. Cathy, the answer to that question was in the TZ Guide that came with the packet.
Overall it was a great game. I think we worked well but wasted too much time on Critter Country and should have used it on the Roger Rabbit quest instead.
We will be back in spring shooting for a podium finish...

We are not meant to stick around for the awards/recap - as much as I want to some day. In the past, we've had my husbands parents watch our kids and I have rushed home as soon as we turn in the answers so that we could rescue everyone (my kids as much as the grandparents).
This time, we had a different friend watch our kids and she assured us that we could stay for the awards/recap. But almost as soon as we had left the house they lost power. In fact, my husband had not pushed the button to close the garage door in time and it didn't trigger. We figured it was no big deal because they could just push it from the inside... yeah, less than 10 minutes after we left there was no power and we had to talk our sitter through manually closing the door so she could leave for swim lessons (which were almost cancelled because the gym had no power. They got their power back when she was in the parking lot). I called (from MA Central) while my team was doing trivia and she let me know that the power wasn't supposed to come back on until 6:00am the following day. So once we turned in our material I felt compelled to get home and break out the candles while it was still light. We have great neighbors who sent us an extension cord from their generator so we could plug in our refrigerator.
I would like to blame being distracted for our poor showing, but really we've played through fire and rain so what is a little lack of electricity? We couldn't find the Club 55 window (though we did find the advertisement on main street telling where the next meeting would be) and could only recognize two of the twilight zone photos. We made a logical guess on the Frontierland quest so hopefully we got that one right.
Like one of the other teams, we found our past experience/knowledge helped make the graveyard quest very easy. Although I will say when I was pushing to work on that quest my husband skimmed it and said "I don't understand, what are they asking us to do?" Part of my MouseAdventure backpack now includes a clear clipboard, which is great for two-sided eyespy sheets. We also used that for the graveyard quest to have one person read the numbers, another read the letters, and a third (with their own clipboard) to write them down.

Wait, there was a Club 55 window? I remember all the hubbub about club 55 from the 50th year anniversary, so I just answered that Club 55 is the group of original cast members from opening year. Is that wrong? Ugh, I was so sure we had a slam dunk on that answer.

We had to get clarification for that one, but yes, there is a window for Club 55. It is above the seating area for Coke Corner. The answer for the quest was "School of Golf".

We knew the answer to the Club 55 question as well (original cast members) so we never even thought to look for an alternate answer. It would make sense to me that both answers would be correct.

Death by Monkeys had an awesome time in the Zone! There were two quests that we didn't touch at all -- the Main Street and Critter Country quests (we were still scarred from the Critter Country quest from the Luau event).
Like someone else said, we had a harder time with our initial organization because quite a few quests involved multiple lands, but we didn't have any quests that we felt like we wasted a lot of time on during this one.
We started with Roger Rabbit (which was apparently a good choice despite the 40-minute line... another team told us later about having to wait through a ride breakdown, and I also heard the line only got worse). That quest was fairly straightforward if you put in the time, so that one bolstered our confidence going forward.
What answer did other teams get for the Fantasyland/Carrousel quest? We ended up with green, so I'm hoping we counted correctly. There was an extensive grid and lots of double-checking involved, but we were proud of ourselves after that one.
I think my favorite was actually the threshold quest -- talk about something no one ever pays attention to! It was fun to notice the often-overlooked details. There was one threshold we never found, but we were able to find the bottle of "Buergers" Floral Lilac Toilet Water despite the missing letter. Hooray!
Thanks for a great event, MousePlanet!

Which letter were you missing? We couldn't find the "U" but like you were able to solve the quest without it.

The "U" is the letter we were missing too! No idea where that one was...

I knew I shouldn't have 'doubted' the MA staff - just wanted to make sure that it wasn't going to be 'trivia' based. (Though I guess the first one we did, the hidden quest was "Who's castle is it... in WDW" (the in WDW was for Advanced). You could get the DL answer for basic from the map (I think) but not the WDW answer!

Thanks! After the accident I was towed home. Once there I made sure my DH and little one were okay and that if I were to go down to MA I wouldn't be leaving DH with extra responsibility with the totaled car. He said he wasn't going to do deal with it until Monday. So I pondered whether to go down to MA or go to church with my family, and decided that since I have a propensity to really beat myself up mentally, I preferred try to jump in the game to get my mind off of it for a while. A few friends at church already knew about the accident, and I really didn't quite feel up to being rushed by them asking me all the details and asking "are you okay?!?" Um yeah. I'm standing here, aren't I? I think mentally it was a good idea as the game did help me calm down (I NEVER thought I'd say MA helped me calm down! That's *hilarious*!) but now today, with the soarness, I'm not sure it was a good idea to be carrying around a back pack for a few hours. I'm still glad I got to play. I would have been really sad to miss the whole day. And I played a good part in getting one of the 50 pt quests for our team! I did decide to skip the awards to go back to church for a parenting seminar. By then I felt more ready to talk about it. But I was sad miss Q&A and applaud the winners.
The game materials were indeed fabulous. I LOVED the tv guide book. I wish I had it now so I could take a better look at it! I knew the hidden quest was in the little puzzle, and even tried reading it diagonally, but couldn't pull out the question. I seem to ever be the only person on my team interested in trying to figure the hidden quest out. I did not see the black arrows. Again, I wish I had the book so I could take another look.
I really liked the advanced esplande game! My team almost gave up on that one several times. We got tripped up at first thinking we could just find the Orange County brick. After staring at the ground for at least 10-15 minutes, my team mate figured out that we needed to find the clues on Main Street first. We couldn't find three but got enough letters to decode the word after Joe encouraged us to consider ALL of the supplies we had been given.
Baby calling... I have to go. More later!

It was a fun day. Thanks MA Staff for another great event.
Did anyone figure out the Flag Quest in Adventure Land? We got the phrase 'Appeal to Heaven' and had trouble finding a Flag that was clearly related to the saying. We ended up guessing 'Old Glory' but I don't think we got the correct answer.
-
We missed the flag quest as well. We were told that it was the Pine Tree Flag which had the phrase "Appeal to Heaven" on the flag itself. We were so busy reading the plaques that we didn't look up at the actual flags.

The flag was "The Pine Tree Flag" in front of the docks. It is white and green and says "An Appeal To Heaven" On it.

We got Pine Tree Flag as the answer too.
Did anyone else get an answer for the Fantasyland/Carrousel quest? We ended up with "green" as the answer... it was a horse three rows up and one row in from the starting horse.

Curiouser and curiouser...
Nancy - I'm glad you are okay.
This MA was a difficult one for us. We agree that it was hard for us to figure out where some of the quests were located. We started out really strong and figured out two quest in Toontown and Fantasyland in a little over an hour. But then it all fell apart for us. We were so not in our "zone." We had so much fun but it was not a good quest day at all. We learned some valuable lessons for next time though. Anything to do with Splash Mountain is so not a "There's a Snake in My Boot!" quest.
They accepted either green or purple for the carousel quest. Depending on if you did step 12 or not.
We LOVED the trivia, because my husband and I are huge Twilight Zone fans! And we were really happy to win the staff favorite T-shirts! YAY. Congrats to all the division winners and top teams, there were some amazing scores.

Loving my sweet pea.
The thing about the Club 55 quest is that I don't think they ask you anything that you can't *find* in the park or on something they hand to you. So my team also thought of Club 55 being those that have worked there since '55, but my team mate was quick to remind me that it should be something we can find. Being that it was window quest, we kept looking at windows and were rewarded!
Thanks redleader.
I never personally looked at the Splash Mountain quest... but I don't think my team mate ever connected that quest with needing to ride the ride. It was the only quest we didn't get to, as we left it in favor of the 50 pt. esplanade quest.
Any advanced teams or staff that can give me the answer to the logic puzzle quest on Saturday? I came up with Alex played Qix. And I'm dying to know if that is right or not.

I thought the CMs escorted people out of the 'regular' load/unload area when an attraction broke down - that they kind of worked their way from the 'back to the front', growing a group of guests behind them, like the pied piper and the rats of Hamlin? (oops just looked up Hameln, not Hamlin.)
