Pumping Up the Playlists!
Here's the playlist thread from a little over a year ago. It's interesting reading the list because there are songs in the thread that I've gotten tired of and am taking off my list. I'm in the process of updating my list for the Disneyland Half so I figured I'd start a new thread to see what others are adding to their lists these days. (ohmygosh. I just looked at my list from that old thread and my current list is NOTHING like that list!!! Yowsa.)
The Middle by Jimmy Eat World got me through a low-point in my 8-miler this weekend to the point that before I heard it, I'd stopped doing my intervals (4 walk, 1 run) and after, I bumped up and did my last mile walk 2 1/2, run 1.
Another new song to me is Ordinary Day by Great Big Sea. Holy.Moly. I love that song.
I know I'll think of others. I think I just added We Got the Beat by the Go-Gos. Yes, my list is still full of lots of 80s.
So what's new on your list?

I have some P!nk, Avril Lavigne, Nickelback, Fall Out Boy and Sugarland.
Coming OFF the running playlist are Sixpence None the Richer, Sheryl Crow and Kari Jobe. Not that I don't like the songs, they just do nothing for me when I need a pick me up. I'm also looking to add to the playlist since it's just about an hour and so are my longest workouts.

We have similar taste in running music- Edge of Glory is usually the song that gets me to sprint at the end.

Here's my current list.
I know there's a lot of 80s. That's how old I am. It works for me. There's songs that probably wouldn't do it for other people but do it for me.
Today I added two songs:
Mr. Mom by Lone Star
You Belong With Me by Taylor Swift
I put it in an order so that songs I really like will be after miles 4/5 when I'll really need the help - during the "boring" part of Anaheim or during the last few miles coming back from Angel's Stadium.

I added some old school grunge to keep me pumped. Some of the new additions include, Blink 182, Green Day, Jane's Addiction, Zebrahead, Soundgarden, Elastica and Juliana Hatfield. Oh! And some No Doubt, too.

Songs? Which ones? I still have about 15 - 30 minutes to add to mine. I could just go back and repeat but sometimes I have to skip songs I'm not in the mood to hear so I like to pad a bit, too...

Would you recommend creating one long playlist or several shorter ones to fit different paces? I have a couple playlists going (one for when I'm cruising along and another for when I need a good pick me up), but it's hard to switch mid-run and I'm afraid that the timing will be off if I try to make one long one.
And how do you carry your ipod, etc? I like to run hands free and currently I'm just shoving it in a makeshift pocket... :/

Right now I put my iPhone in a small Ziplock and then in my Amphipod waist pouch. I'm thinking of trying out an armband though so that it's easier to check on things mid-run. I have one playlist "half marathon" that I use for all my training runs and races, and use it on shuffle. I have all upbeat songs, nothing slow.

I have an arm band that my iPhone fits into. I like it because I can just glance down and see my time/distance/pace on Runkeeper.

I have one long playlist. I used to have it on shuffle because I love it when the perfect song just happens to come on when I need it. But this time I have assembled it in a certain order. My less favorite songs are at the beginning because the beginning is when I need the least amount of magic or am more likely to pull my earphones out. I purposely put some more magical songs after the time-point at which I'll be past mile 5.
I carry my ipod in an arm sleeve. I like having access to it because sometimes a song comes on and for whatever reason, I can't handle it and I want to skip it. Likewise, I've found myself sometimes repeating a song 2-3 times if it really pumps me up. (Last year I listened to the same song over and over again down State College and left on that street towards the 57 and the pond.)

Doc has found a new website he likes called jog.fm. He's used websites like this before to look up music for our playlists but he likes this one better than others. He's been aiming for around 140 beats per minute - jogging that would give you about a 10 minute mile but walking our pace seems to be about 140 BPM for him.
From poking around he found another song. He couldn't decide if he liked it or not but I did so we're getting it - The Hooters, And We Danced.

Sounds like my kinda music. Right now I'm trying to put together a run playlist. Offspring-Come out and play is my current go to song for the last part of my run.
