Thread: Primeval whirl will not be re-opening [rumor]

Primeval whirl will not be re-opening [rumor]

Rumor has it that the Primeval whirl will not be re-opening, it has been closed for good and will removed, probably has to do with the deaths of the 2 cast members awhile back. Any body have any other info on it?
Will be interesting to see what will come in and replace it.

If they aren't going to close it, they should. This area of Animal Kingdom is the best opportunity to make AK a full-day park. The dinosaur section is just horrible and needs to be replaced. We didn't even venture to that side of the park during our last visit, especially as hot as it was; that area is an oven! I say, rip it out, the whole section, add a Jungle Book dark ride, another E-ticket ride and maybe one other kids-type ride.

    1999 - Coronado Springs (1 night); 2003 - DL's Paradise Pier (5 nights); 2005 - All Star Music (7 nights); 2007 - POP Century (10 nights); 2008 - DL's Paradise Pier (5 nights); 2009 - POP Century (10 nights); 2010 - Dolphin (2 nights); 2011 - POP Century (7 nights); June 8-18, 2012 - POFQ (10 nights); next trip,June 18-22, 2013 - POFQ (5 nights). If I'm not at Walt Disney World or Disneyland, I'm not really happy.

Ive skimmed some other sites and found only a couple references like the OP's. No source info and few details, if any. The only thing of substance that I did see is that the reopen date is now sometime in September due to delays from the different investigations.

The way your post is written makes it sound as though you don't believe it to be true, that's kind of understandable (it seems to happen to my posts)

it's not that we don't believe you, but there isn't any evidence to support the claim. even the link you provide is just another forum with the claim but no proof.

i will agree with the idea that i wouldn't mind seeing whirl and other parts of dinoland disappear. i like the dinosaur ride, but the "carnival" area that requires cash to play like an ocean resort boardwalk is worthless. rarely ever see anyone there.

LS: No, my comments have nothing to do with not believing you. My comments happen to point out that there is no substantiated info out on the internet about PW being killed off. Even the link you posted, which I did find during my initial search before I posted, has nothing official - just speculation.

Sure, we can discuss speculation, rumor, and hearsay - that's not a problem. It just has to be kept in mind that, at least at the moment, it is not coming from official Disney channels and not verified. You would not believe how many rumors spin out of control, then taken as fact, because someone does not read the whole thread.

I can agree with how words can be mis-interpreted, the first word of my OP was Rumor, only time will tell if there is any Truth to the ride becoming another fact of history.

I've been in other threads that discuss the merits or lack of in the dino carnival area. I think its theme is very tacky and not at all up to Disney standards (even though I do like the Primeval Whirl ride). Others say that it's themed exactly as it should be - like a roadside carnival. I just don't think it has any place in a Disney park that usually has a higher standard of theming. Same problem with Paradise Pier in DCA - well executed theme, but it has no place in a Disney park.

Wouldn't bother me too much to see the whole dino carnival go away and be replaced with something new.

I happen to love Dinoland USA. I can't disagree with those who don't care for it more. But you are welcome to feel that way. Besides, if Dinoland was ever replaced, I'm sure Disney would turn it into some sort of Dinoland Feaqturing Stitch and Pals' Dinosaur ride area.

Disney's Animal Kingdom needs two things: A fully working Yeti, and the land devoted to mythological creatures.

I thought this line in the OP was about what would/could replace it.

For what it's worth, I've always called it "Primeval Hurl" I only went on it twice. It's painful! It really knocks you around and DH has bad shoulders. He came off it in pain from all the whipping around and the sudden stop at the end.....ouch.

I'm not a huge fan of the ride as it is herky jerky and does knock you around. I still ride it when open. But if it does go, no big loss IMO.

For us, it was always the main reason to go to Dinoland. While I do have to agree that the spinning can really get to you, if it is your cup of tea, it can be a lot of fun. Sure, they have a ride just like it at the local 6Flags, but somehow because the corny theme of the ride at Disney, its just more fun.

Im still hoping for the Mid-Sept date for a reopen. That seems to be the most frequent theme out there vs an actual permanent closure.

The ride smells bad.I think its the cushions on hand rest and people sweating on them. Anyway it is fun to ride and my daughter enjoyed Dinosaur the movie very much as did my ds. I would miss this ride as it gives me the giggles lol

it's the same smell that the cushions on splash mountain used to have. it's one of the reasons we now bring a small package of hand/baby wipes in our bag when we are in the parks.

Ohhh! I know that smell on Splash Mountain! The lap bars were gross, we would always use some anti-bacterial lotion right after the ride.

Me too! I went on it once and it made me feel horrible for a good hour afterwards. I wouldn't miss it at all. That said, my children really love it. As for the fairground part around it. I always feel kind of embarressed for the cast members who are trying to draw you in and are completely ignored by almost everyone walking past. Personally, if they don't re-open the Hurl, I hope they re-theme the whole area. We like Dinosaur and the dig-site in that area though, and when my daughter was 5 she really liked the Dumbo type ride there.

They could easily keep the dinosaur theme and ditch all the carny games, etc. I was hoping to ride it when we were there because we've never and won't be back that way again for a long, long time, and I mostly like rides like that, but alas it was down. I just hate all the carny games, in ANY of the parks (least favorite area in California Adventure, too). These types of games really aren't 'Disney' style, unless they're totally free (doesn't even have to be a prize, just something to do) but I don't know that Walt would've like this style of entertainment, either.

Yes! Primeval Whirl and SM both have horrible smells. I thought it was from the water on SM, but after Primeval Whirl I realized it had to be the cushions. Yuck!

We frequently wash our hands and thank goodness for anti-bacterial lotion! Bath and Body Works! I love that place! We always stock up before our WDW trips!
